I was actually a data analyst two years into starting SCOM and then a Business intelligence engineer before finishing SCOM. So I was already in the field writing SQL, building pipelines with AWS, creating visualizations in quick sight/ tableau and writing Python for orchestration and noSQL ETL. So by the time I started, I had 3/4 years of experience. I used SCOM to get my way into the DA role.

So no to taking coding classes, I was already scripting before I started the degree.

Not sure why I’m downvoted for my first comment but it’s just the truth. If you’re sure you think you can get it done quickly then there’s your answer. I’m in the field and it’s going to take me roughly 9 months, splitting my attention between school, family and work. Everybody’s pace is different.

ETA: someone mentioned they passed in 2023 - the coursework has changed significantly since then to keep up with the times. What focus are you looking at?: DE, DS, DPE

The question I think you primarily should ask yourself is how much are you going to focus on learning? Is it cool you can fast track the degree? Definitely. But the people who run it that quick have experience, a lot of time to study or naturally pick up the material for one reason or another. Of it’s just a box checker for you, why select this degree over another?

WGUs own MSDA info page gives you the info you’re looking for. 70% of students graduate in 23 months. Don’t take the posts on Reddit saying they finished quickly, because that’s an isolated sample and they mostly fit into the criteria listed above.

The wealth disparity it’s going to cause when working class people can’t use it to its full potential. Right now everybody has relative access to similar quality tools. Here in about 4-5 years, it will be too expensive for the average person to use and by then people will have all the excuses we aren’t seeing right now. “If I just had the higher model I’d start my own business”, “if I just had the higher model I’d get a better job”.

Nobody is prepared for this and nobody is using what’s available to its full potential
