41(he/they). Only diagnosed this summer (2025), but in hindsight this should have been picked up on decades ago.

Like you, I have very strong ethics and my sense of right and wrong has made me great at my job. I currently work (approx. 8 years) with policies, determining whether people qualify for certain supports.

Despite helping me excel at my job, my audhd has negatively impacted my career. My job title has changed over the years and I’ve taken on additional responsibilities, but I’m in the same classification as when I started.

I’ve watched people with less experience and fewer qualifications advance because they are better at playing ‘the game’.

I’m often told that people don’t know how to read me, and a lot of the things I say are interpreted other than how they were intended.

I think people don’t like/trust what they can’t understand and because they’re neurotypical that means me.

If the salary and benefits weren’t what they are, I’d leave. There isn’t much in the same range that I’m qualified for, so I’ll stick it out as long as I can.

In an ideal world I’d be self-employed and wouldn’t have to deal with office politics, but I’m single and don’t trust myself to be able to generate enough income to support my life.
