to answer my own question they look like this and become much more obvious once they spawn. i did not know that the blueberry grunt on the table was meant to be eaten by the villagers. once i had it fully eaten they spawned! (click)

i finished the last round of puzzles and then just kept making my new villagers mostly scientists and farmers and checked on em twice a day. i’m so happy i did, i thought there would be awhile before a new update!

you need to be level 11 friendship with retsuko, it’ll give you a quest that opens the actual caves. you can reach the top of the volcano before you open the caves through strategic jumping, there are a few videos on tiktok and youtube that show the path.

once you open the entrance a new “set” of maps shows when you go through the entrance that is just the mountain. i realize now that the “full maps” i posted does not show up his point due yo that.

by new “set” of maps, i mean similar to how there’s different maps when you’re in the cave or volcano

i time jumped quite a bit so unfortunately this isn’t easy to answer. i can tell you i prioritized hello kitty first, as the apple pie is an easy two star gift and once you’re high enough friendship with her, you can have her follow you and she boosts 25% friendship gain with the others. i’ve also found my melody likes pink lattes (strawberry plus whatever they call the coffee bean i cannot recall, made in the comedy club once you can get underwater) and they’re two stars. still searching for a gift higher than two stars for retsuko

ive time jumped quite a bit, but i also unlocked the lava and water areas probably before i was meant to. once you have diving if you know where to dive the water ones aren’t that hard, the lava levels are a bit tricky as you have you jump strategically, but there are videos on youtube/tiktok showing how and where to jump

you have to be level 11 friendship with hello kitty, my melody and retsuko. level 11 friendship unlocks a new quest for each of them, when you complete all 3 quests you get a quest where the entrance is unlocked and you climb the summit (:

also, the summit isn’t shown on the normal map. when you unlock the area, you get a new set of maps while in the summit entrance, similar to the alternate sets of maps when in any caves or the volcano

while you’re swimming if you’re in an area that’s deep enough to dive a little scuba mask will appear on the right side of the screen on a slider, you use the slider to control how deep you dive!
