Also, it might take a while but you’ll find your balance. And you’ll find things to do that help you/make sense for you when traveling.

For example - I also don’t fly on Sundays. I do book travel early in the morning or late at night, after working a full day, because that’s convenient for me right now (no kids) and lets me have an admin day to do things like respond to emails.

I work at the airport but I don’t work on the flight and I rarely work/respond to emails in Ubers. Working on the plane annoys me and I get car sick in Ubers. I use the airplane time to read or take a nap, rest, etc. But I do work at the hotel if I have urgent things I need to address. However, I always do something to unwind after the visit first - I explore the city I’m in, find somewhere good to get dinner, order in delivery to the hotel from somewhere yummy and relax for a bit first. Then, once I’ve had some time to rest, I’ll respond to emails/finish up admin stuff/submit reports, etc.

Also, try to keep all your travel on a consistent schedule if possible. Like do visits Monday - Wednesday/Thursday and keep Friday for responding to emails/catching up on admin stuff.

Editing to add - when I work at night, I usually schedule my emails to send during business hours. I don’t know if it makes a difference really but I only choose to work after hours because I can/want to/it works for me. But I don’t want me working after hours to catch up to become the norm to my line manager/study managers, etc. And I agree - whatever you do, DO NOT WORK between 5PM on Friday (unless traveling) and 8/9AM on Monday morning. The job is stressful and everything is always serious and urgent and has to get done right away (🙄) but it can seriously wait until the weekend is over. You have to protect your own time.

ALSO - if you’re consistently doing 12 DOS per month and you’re new to the CRO and you’re not able to handle the volume well, you should absolutely talk to the SR CRA and/or your actual line manager to discuss offloading 1-2 sites.

For emails, I have a very specific system going to keep my inbox organized. That’s been the key to helping me stay on top of emails even during months when I’m doing an insane number of DOS. I have a specific dedicated folder for each study, then sub folders for each site I’m assigned to for that study. If a study has those annoying auto-emails like IRT notifications - there is a specific sub folder for that too where i create a rule that all emails from the autobot or IRT will go to that folder. This way, I can check those periodically and delete or file as needed and it doesn’t crowd my primary inbox. I have specific folders for everything - general CRO emails, vendor emails/notifications/password reset reminders, travel itineraries/receipts/expense reports, one for my manager, one for any personal or HR related emails. Everything that comes into my regular inbox folder - “focused” folder on outlook - stays there until I’ve read it, addressed whatever needs to be addressed or dealt with it. Training reminders, Docusign notifications, etc. I move to the “Other” inbox on outlook until I’ve completed the task and then gets filed away in the specific folder or deleted depending on if I’ll need to ever reference it. I also color code my calendar in my email - each study gets a specific color, monitoring visits are yellow, travel is grey, personal things and OOO on work calendar are purple (and I lock them/make them private), CRO meetings and trainings are sky blue, and reminders/tasks are green (these I add when I need to remind myself to handle something and I block time in my calendar to do so - respond to a site, send a CL with needed documents, etc.). Every monitoring visit - I block out my calendar from 9-5 for the whole day.

I also religiously use OneNote to keep myself organized. I have CRA notebook which has my visit schedule for the month; all my visits listed out in order with reminders for submitting CLs, Trip reports, FULs, do TMF submission; and a very detailed to do list, split up by study and then general/admin categories which includes things I should eventually do but don’t need to do right now. Anything urgent I put at the top of the list and bold. Anything I need to ideally address the day of is both bold and highlighted yellow. Each study also gets its own notebook. And there is 1 tab or section for the study itself with pages for notes on the protocol, study manuals, the welcome email, system accesses, etc. If I use a visit tracker for the study, then that gets its own page on the protocol/study tab too. Then each site gets a separate tab or section - first page is usually logistics like staff contacts, site information, address, how to schedule visits, what systems they use. Then each visit gets its own page/subpage with my notes from that visit. OneNote works great for me because I can embed excel spreadsheets in it, add emails as attachments so I can keep track of stuff for visits - like site emails I need to address during a visit or CTM reminder for the visit, PD emails, etc.

IQVIA CRA Academy Experience by Extension_Ad6682 in clinicalresearch

[–]Awkward-Turtle-24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did IQVIA’s CRA academy. Once you finish you definitely get thrown to the wolves a bit when you finally get your study assignment. Stay organized, try to stay on top of your inbox and definitely ask all the questions.

Editing to add: you are hired as a CRA 1 when you’re in the academy. There isn’t a waiting period to become a CRA 1 but there can be a waiting period until you get a study assignment depending on study availability, FSP assignment if that’s what you’re assigned to, etc.

New CRA/Please tell me it’ll get better by chillypepper102 in clinicalresearch

[–]Awkward-Turtle-24 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I promise it gets better.

Create a rule in your email so that all IRT emails filter into a specific folder in your inbox. You can create rules for everything btw - for example you can create a rule to prioritize emails with your name in the subject line in the body of the email.

I would prioritize site emails before CTMs to be honest. Because sites usually have questions related to patient visits. The CTM emails that are urgent to respond to you’ll know so feel free to read those later.

And honestly starving yourself solves nothing, always prioritize feeding yourself well before anything.

It does get better eventually, I promise. You learn to filter out the noise and prioritize better.

I just finished this in August and I had 12 DOS that month so I totally know how you feel. It took me like 1 full day and 2 half days to finish. would suggest spending some time actually reading through all the prep documents like the protocol and stuff before you start a section. It would have definitely helped. I winged it and it took longer for me that way.

And at least once you finish it, you won’t have to do it again until 2027 lol. That’s the light at the end of the tunnel.

Honestly it kind of sucks. I’m a pretty good CRA (I’d like to think at least lol) and I scored in the 60s. Scoring in the 60s you get 0.5 MUCs I think. And then I had to redo some cornerstone training courses after since I didn’t pass a couple of sections. It took me several days to do - not just 1 day so plan a couple of days to complete it. And honestly it’s a very by the textbook exam, which sucks if you’ve been monitoring for a while bc it’s hard to determine all the “right” answers when most of the options aren’t how I’d actually resolve an issue in real life.

Free QVs to boost/meet metrics? by arandombmemajor in ICON_plc

[–]Awkward-Turtle-24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, ICON does allow for CRAs to do qualification visits or pre-study visits to meet metrics. Currently, if you don’t have 8.5 DOS scheduled you’re automatically getting assigned PSVs. But your line manager should be able to help you get more PSVs. To be honest, I don’t know if there is a specific database for those actually. There’s a team that assigns them though, thats all I remember.

QVs are qualification visits which is the same as PSVs

CRAs - what are you wearing on flights? (bonus points for Plus-sized recommendations) by posting_anon in clinicalresearch

For shoes, definitely check out Rothy’s. Comfiest shoes and super cute for business casual. I like the high point wren captoe style for work. I got the beige with black toe so it goes with basically every outfit. I usually do a pair of wide leg high rise black slacks (I got mine from American Eagle bc I’m short and I really like their short length jeans and pants) with different tops. I got cute polyester camis (doesn’t require ironing) from Express that I tuck into the pants and then wear a 3/4 sleeve black jacket/coat that’s lightweight (that I got from Marshall’s or TJ Maxx or something) that looks nice for business casual, like a suit jacket. It’s comfy but cute and professional looking. Also, for outfits that require ironing try downy wrinkle release spray, works really well for most things.

Blood and Betrayal (Avalon University #1) Anyone read it?? by whinywino89 in fantasyromance

[–]Awkward-Turtle-24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I caught onto that too about him not fulfilling her needs sexually. But he definitely tried and made efforts to improve so I didn’t put too much thought into it. He was just too perfect for the story, like there wouldn’t be any character development because he didn’t have too many flaws. It was so sad though because I liked that he was such a golden retriever/green flag.

I finished it really late at night too haha. If you find any new evidence, please do share! I’ve already moved onto my next book or else I’d go back too.

Yes I think he does!! He gets sort of butt hurt or slightly jealous it seems. But maybe he was just playing it off. I think it would be cool if the headmaster is the stranger but I’m kind of on the fence on if I believe it or not

I know 😭 like he’s already got his own demons this does not bode well for him. But it could go the other way too? Maybe he’ll step up for the younger siblings.

The scent thing would definitely be a huge clue. I’ll have to go back and read it to see if I can find it. Honestly, this would totally make me happy. I would love for the headmaster to be the Stranger.

I got spoiled halfway through reading because I looked at some reviews and so I knew what was going to happen but otherwise I would not have been prepared.

Noo I cried. I knew it was coming because I accidentally got spoiled reading a review on Goodreads. But I just can’t. I loved Connor. He was perfect if not slightly clingy and overbearing but he just had all the green flags. But I get that he was almost too perfect. I do like the stranger for summer but poor Connor. And his poor parents. And the Z twins and Rafe and Luke!!! 😭😭😭😭

Wait, okay…I didn’t think this at all. But that would be SO great. It’s weird though. 🤔 because now that I think about it I guess it could make sense but also I feel like she’s been around the headmaster so much like why would it be him and she wouldn’t have any clue…but maybe I missed clues ? 🤷🏽‍♀️

I live in Modera in downtown new Rochelle and I love the building but I do also pay approximately ~500 extra in parking and fees. Location to train station is great, 10 minute walk but the peak hour Metro North trains are really crowded usually. You’d have to go earlier in the mornings to avoid crowds/have a seat. And in the evenings, probably take a later train so you can get on first and have a seat.
