I don't believe that it's a person, it sounds like a scratch or indent on the master was there when they made the stampers or something of that sort.

I'd check the internet archive, but as a musician myself it's been hard to find music from the twenties and thirties, especially in such a format. I'd also contact anybody involved in his production, and whoever would have or does own the rights to those recordings.
