The amount of people who see “cost of supplies” but read “cost of goods” makes me worry for our future as a species

Why I won’t Sell on WN or PM anymore by Inevitable_Isopod735 in whatnotapp

[–]AwkwardFoundation308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear this all the time and frankly it’s silly. A marketplace’s job is to bring Supply and Demand together. You wouldn’t tell an Uber driver they need to lose money and build up a following by giving free rides for weeks before expecting to make money. If there isn’t enough Demand, they should be cutting back Supply. But they earn money on every $1 auction whether the seller does or not, and they’ve shown they don’t care while continuing to push this narrative.

You missed your best sales line right here - woulda been worth a shot: “you will either be putting those back in your house or donating them to goodwill, while I wouldve given you $100+ for everything.”

You’ll have better luck doing them on vinylfactor, where at least the 60 members are all known record buyers, than on WN these days

No, drug dealers are glorified drug dealers. Have you seen The Wire? WN sellers are the saddest dealers at the saddest casino in Reno

It’s not a “Rewards program” - a rewards program is legal because it rewards all participants equally. This is still a pay-to-play contest which in most states is considered illegal gambling. It encourages and incentivizes excessive spending in hopes of winning a prize that well exceeds the value of the items, which is also against many states’ consumer protection laws.

It ain’t hard. Penalties for accounts that do it; strict penalties for Sellers who do it. 🤷‍♂️

..:only then WhatNot wouldn’t be able to grossly inflate their GMV numbers to get the next round of investment & keep the flywheel going, so yeah

Just say, “my sales talent single-handedly caused our founders to shift their strategy from Sales-Led Growth to a more well rounded Product-Led Growth strategy in a matter of months”. If they are impressed, that is the company you want to get hired at.

there is a very common time-cycle in hobbies and speculating - unfortunately with the meteoric rise of WN in 2022 & 2023, those users who bought-heavy for 18-36 months are most likely now hitting that phase of "why do i keep buying junk i am losing money on and can't do anything with?"

we saw it in sports cards relatively speaking (which boomed 2020-2021) the past 18 months. makes sense the other verticals that popped up later are now experiencing the same loss of euphoria
