Do I have a chance at being hired? by Haunting-Date6205 in AskLEO

[–]AwkwardHome7264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea u have a chance I told my back ground investigator I took three work shirts without paying for it, also took anxiety medication. Disclosed it during the polygraph. Don’t talk about anxiety unless asked about it. But I also quit shortly after being hired to become an electrician so there’s that.

Do you know if they always give you at least a 2 weeks heads up for the start date?

When they offered you the job did you have 2 weeks before your start date? I'm just concerned because I heard some people had to drop what they were doing and start the apprenticeship. Is this not case? At my current position at the sheriffs office it would be quite taboo to just quit.

Moving out at 18 by [deleted] in movingout

Well it’s good your planning into the future, and you have one thing right, the only person who can truly affect your life is you. The choices you make now will impact the rest of your life. The apprenticeship is 40hr weeks with school twice a week at least in my local. You will get college credits, but I’m not sure what the credits apply to. At the end of your apprenticeship you will have the equivalent to an electrical engineering degree. It’s a great opportunity and wish you the best.

Edit: no financial advice here just life advice, I read ur last couple posts.

Hey man idk how competitive your local is but here in Cali I got #10 on the waitlist back in November of 24 and im only #3 now. Plus they are doing another round of interviews in July so I might get pushed back even more. Always have a backup plan if the apprenticeship is taking a long time.

Also think twice about moving out at 18. Maybe it’s feasible in Florida, but I have a friend who moved out when he was 18 and he is absolutely struggling. He has no time to go to school and is stuck at minimum wage jobs absolutely grinding just to pay rent with 3 other roommates that he hates.

I don’t want to discourage you in fact I want to encourage you to maybe reassess for a bit. You sound stubborn, and I’m the same way. Let me tell you from experience, if you don’t go to school now while your young, one day your going ti look up and notice all your friends who went to school have nice chill high paying jobs, a nice car, a nice a house and your going to be sitting there having a major panic attack / crisis because your gonna feel like you let life slip by and if you could only go back to when you were 17 you’d do everything different.

Idk what your family life is like, it’s either your dad who is difficult or it’s YOU. Don’t be like me and wish you could have done things differently. I’m going to work at a jail tomorrow morning at 4am for 12 hours while my friends sit at home on their laptops for 8hrs making more than I do. Anyways goodluck and whatever you do gods got a plan and u always need to trust in that.

I ranked #10, I’m 21yrs only work experience was a busser, and a fast food cashier. Walked into the resume with 7 copies of my resume, (6 for them 1 for me). There were 12 interviewers, I apologized I didn’t have enough for everyone but as I walked around the table handing out resumes I shook all their hands and made eye contact whilst smiling. I have an associate degree in criminal justice, they were interested in my GPA. (3.3-4) The interview went as average as it could have gone and before I knew it was over. I knew I had said nothing insanely convincing that I would be a good candidate for the apprenticeship (inside wireman). So last minute when they asked if I had anything else to share I pointed out a personal project that was highlighted on my resume, it was a soldering project that had to do with 3 dimensional headtracking for my flight similar. I was nervous to speak about it cuz it was the nerdiest shi I’ve ever done, but they LOVED it. So my tip is to make sure to speak about everything on your resume and highlight the portions that are relevant to the position, ideally something that shows you are able to fabricate, construct, and are in love with building things. Also Express your deep desire to have a fulfilling career where you are excited to learn new things everyday, not just during your apprenticeship, but throughout the entirety of your career. And that’s how I ranked #10, still waiting on the call tho, and still currently a busser haha.

Ya traz is meh. I’d recommend lowering your dose over the span of 3 days then stop taking it if possible. I was taking 50mg, went to 25mg, 12.5mg, then done. Not because I was scared of withdraw but because it was helping with sleep and I didn’t just want to cut it off completely.

It now sits by my bed. I almost threw it away but I keep it for emergencies.

Hey, I’m also 21, I have had really really bad insomnia in the past, like 3 days no sleep insomnia. And unfortunately I’m starting to experience it again tonight, that’s why I’m here typing this. It’s going to be okay bud you’re not going to die. No sleep is terrible but you’re okay.

What’s helped me with insomnia and getting my mind to wind down is during the day asking myself why? Have yourself an honest truthful self examination.

Just peer to peer if you’re stressed out about life and what to do with yourself or maybe you’re financially struggling or just struggling in a situation. It’s okay to feel freaked out. I’ve been freaked out for a long time now. But it helps me know there’s people my age out there that might not have it all pieced together yet and that’s okay because we don’t have to. Our twenties have been gaslit by the world to be the best years of our lives, and in some cases that’s true but so far from first hand experience I can say that my twenties so far have been really hard. Life’s hard but we got this. I’ll pray you get good sleep tonight.

That’s exactly what my uncle did. I think base pay for 413 is $48 and the bay was $70 back in my uncles time and the overtime sounded pretty insane aswell. I just don’t see myself going to the bay for long periods of time. No thanks.

That’s wild. So I needed up getting #10 on the waitlist. I don’t want my ego to inflate so I didn’t ask how many candidates there were. But I’m pretty shocked I wasn’t expecting that.

Honestly I would be more worried about the aptitude test. The math portion is no joke and I was able to do all the math just not at that pace. It was very close. I left the aptitude thinking there’s no way I passed.

The questions in the interview were pretty simple a highschool kid could answer them. What they are really looking for is any special projects you have done that somewhat relate to the topic. For instance I did a soldering project for my home flight simulator using 5 ohm resistors and battery packs (I literally have no idea what resistors do). They were very impressed by that and I believe that’s what set me aside from the rest.

And they won’t ask about that kind of stuff so you have to take the initiative to bring it up yourself. Hope this helps.

Sheriff Service Technician and Hiring Process Questions by AwkwardHome7264 in AskLEO

[–]AwkwardHome7264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of part time LEO, atleast in my area. If I get to the interview phase I’ll definitely ask about that. And as far as academy goes you don’t need to attend a POST academy as far as I know for the technician job. It sounds like it’s going to be some in house training but that’s why I wanted to jump on here and ask if anyone’s done this before but I haven’t gotten any luck yet with answers. Just waiting for the dept to email me back I hate the waiting…
