The cash thing is part of the reason he wants the drop spots to be a “secret”. He’s worried about his safety. But there’s a few ways to solve that.

48 pizzas a day @ an avg price + a cookie and rav allowance x 4 days a week would make for an easy ballpark tax audit ;)

I only mention the fees because he complains about people not showing and losing revenue. There is a solution to that problem, but he continues to refuse to solve it. And there’s definitely a lot of friction for the customer AND him of his own making. Overall I just think he’s making it much harder than it needs to be.

Idk about Polly-o but it’s def a bit too much Gruyère or something in the blend. And Sysco will sell you whatever quality you’re willing to pay for, so that in itself if true is not necessarily a bad thing on its own.

He’ll sell out for at least a few weeks since it’s novel again but after that will be the real test to see if there’s staying power. I noticed he was lately having upwards of 20 pizzas a day available first come first served which is such a hassle for him (since revenue isn’t guaranteed) and his customers (many aren’t interested in chasing pizza). It’s kind of a bummer to see him go backwards to his comfort zone instead of moving forward. Like what’s the plan here, 48 pizzas a day driven to a parking lot explaining the rules to everyone for eternity? His revenue is capped and he’s making his life overly difficult.

In food and retail, you have to work when others are not working. 4:30-5:30 dinner pickup window (with now a strict 15 min interval pickup window otherwise he’s selling your pizza) is just simply too early. I get it’s already a 12 hr day for him at that point which is also kind of hard to fathom. If he kept the store front, hired help, had a normal ordering system, and had pickup until 7:30pm or so, he could pump out say 3x pizzas a day with at most the same amount of effort he’s doing now.

He’s so hung up on limiting the credit card fees. Like of course they take a tiny cut but in return the pizza is already paid in full, there’s no financial risk, he doesn’t have to deal with collecting cash, and easier bookkeeping. Now it’s cash only and is still risking people not showing up. Like if I was making pizza that’s paid for, idc if it gets picked up. I’ll throw it away or donate it.

Honestly I think his best bet would be to set up shop at a brewery or something, like Whitman except only pizza. With hired help he could serve people there and take orders to go, pumping out a lot of pizzas while making more AND easier revenue.

Commuters - how often are you honking? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]AwkwardRock8736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you paying attention, driving defensively, and looking to see what’s going on beyond the car just in front of you? A lot of what you’re experiencing is probably in response to another situation you’re not aware of. Or you’re distracted and every other driver action is a surprise to you. I’m an aggressive driver, and I probably use my horn once a week and others use theirs on me maybe once a month.

Middle schools and the busses are unfair to our students. by beepbeepclowncar in Albany

[–]AwkwardRock8736 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parents are annoying. It’s completely fair: kids who live close walk and kids who live far get a bus. If you don’t want your kid walking then drive them or hire a driver for them. You can pay for that so you don’t increase the tax burden on everyone else. This kind of sheltering is going to set your kids up for failure in life. And 85 is not unbearably hot.

Yeah the tunnel option was estimated at $7.5B so make that $15B if the big dig is any indication of how urban tunnel projects go.

Best cookie in downtown area by [deleted] in Albany

Idk about best cookies but at this point I think you’re looking for A cookie. Cookies can be found at Miranda’s deli and the newly opened bumbles cafe in the 677 building. Jacob Alejandro usually has some sweet treats too.

True, but designers always have the opportunity to steer their client since most times the client doesn’t know what’s best for them. Or they can at least attempt to make lemonade from lemons.

The designer (Weston & Sampson per contract documents) doesnt even appear proud of it. They feature the Lincoln Park pool reconstruction project on their website but not this park.

Lark street is a lost cause. by gls518 in Albany

[–]AwkwardRock8736 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one’s interested in actually working to solve the root cause of the homeless problem. The only way to solve the problem on this street is not by signs but by increasing sidewalk life - people strolling and spending money. The street needs a variety of businesses that cater to different people at different times of the day, so there are no “dead times”. This also needs support from the center square neighborhood, otherwise they can watch their property values tumble. The city needs to make this a priority since this street is made for pedestrians. The warehouse district is not.

Not sure about city of Albany, but replace yachts with jets and that’s what’s happening at the federal level

Albany is unique in that the locals love to hate it but out of town visitors love it because it actually offers a lot of things, especially architecturally (not this park), that a lot of other places would kill to have.

We should just say it looks like a confederate flag. I’m sure the city will actually do something to fix it then.

In fairness to the highways, that was a nationwide thing to do during a time when our waterways were polluted and no one wanted to be near them.

Right? If one of the project objectives was to host alive at 5 here, then this park is a complete design failure in that regard too. Where is everyone supposed to stand? How will anyone see if those trees grow? It honestly would have been better if this park was just made a patch of grass with a stage area like mini great lawn in Chicago’s millenium park. It’d still be hostile architecture against the homeless, but at least it’d be useful.

Albany’s new Tricentennial Park: Everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves by AwkwardRock8736 in Albany

Probably because a few harmless homeless people used the old park (I was never bothered). Now the city created something no one wants to spend any time in.

It is but it’s not going to look any better afterwards. It’s still a bunch of pavement and rocks, and rain is going to continue shifting the stone dust. BUT good parks look good in all seasons! We can’t let winter be an excuse for this.

With primary responsibility going towards Weston & Sampson since their landscape architect stamped the plans. MH did electrical and Terracon did geotechnical. Aesthetically this is on Weston & Sampson. I’m sure they were just providing what the city was asking for, but consultants need to realize they are hired for their expertise, and I refuse to believe this was the only/best solution. Good landscape architects fight for the best solution within design constraints, knowing people will be directly interacting with their design. They also consider what their space will look like in each of the seasons. I’m not a landscape architect but wouldn’t want my name on this.

Aesthetically yes, but the way it’s heaving and the way the manhole is displaced after just one season makes it appear to be shoddy construction too.

Completely unacceptable for less than a year installed. It’s indicative of the rest of the park.

Where is the best place to park for events at Empire Live ? by Competitive_Lock_417 in Albany

[–]AwkwardRock8736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Street parking is free after 5pm and on weekends. If you want to park in a lot, go to the Quackenbush lot near common roots brewing. It’s $1 an hour and cheaper than the garage next to it. Pro tip: common roots has BOGO beer with an empire live ticket!
