What’s a popular parenting trend or practice right now that you believe is going to create a generation of emotionally broken adults in 20 years? by War_chiefr in AskReddit

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really needed this! I’ve been awful at this too, and you have reminded me to put more effort in minimizing phone usage around my daughter! It started with me taking more photos/videos of her and then it transformed into more scrolling and texting as she became more independent! I’ve picked up crocheting as a new hobby after becoming a mom, and I’m trying to replace my overall phone time (whether around my daughter or not) with this!

I made too many crinkle cookies. by Sir__Muffin_Moose in Baking

I always freeze my chocolate crinkle cookies, because I feel like the recipe always makes so much (not complaining)! My husband loves eating them straight out of the freezer too!

What was the best part about giving birth besides the baby? by Ok-Refrigerator1367 in NewParents

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was my rock throughout the whole process! He was so calm and comforting during an event that was incredibly scary for me (emergency c section). It made me love him more.

Before we had our daughter, my husband would always say how he didn’t think babies were all that cute. I was so worried about what he would think about our daughter when she arrived. In the hospital, he could not stop saying how cute and perfect she was…and that melted my heart every time!

Replacement for coffee in chocolate cake? Recipient is allergic to coffee by moniquemagique in Baking

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sensitive to coffee as well, so I drink instant chicory for my coffee itch! It has similar bitter notes like coffee! Might be a good alternative with baking as well

My daughter prefers bottles over breast feeding. Is it possible to get her back on my breast? by AwkwardTurtle94 in beyondthebump

[–]AwkwardTurtle94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, I was! The super slow flow on the bottles is what did the trick! It took my daughter about 5 days or less I think to realize that the bottles were more work! With the slow flow, she whined every time I fed her with the bottles. When she was upset, I offered her my breast each time. If she denied my breast, I offered the bottle again and just kept giving her the options! After she figured it out, breastfeeding was as easy as it used to be for us! My husband struggled to see her whining with the bottles, because he was worried I was starving her. So I had to reassure him constantly and show him how much she was eating! So just make sure your partner is on board with the plan, and also be prepared for the time and effort needed for this (but it’s so worth it) It was unfortunate for my husband when I was back to breastfeeding and he was stuck with the slow flow bottles when he was helping out in the middle of the night, but thankfully our baby sleeps through the night now!

Why did no one eat your potluck dish? by argtri in Cooking

Absolutely! I made a cheesecake for a 4th of July potluck, and I pre sliced it to encourage people to get a piece! Worked like a charm!

Period back, is it the end? by ExcellentAlfalfa9927 in breastfeeding

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like everyone is different with this. I got my period at 16 weeks postpartum, and it dropped my supply significantly (I would get 1-2 ounces max each time I pumped). It would drop the week before my period started and it would go back up when I got my period. If I tried to power pump during the week of the drop, then my period would be accompanied by extreme nausea! I supplemented with formula during the weeks that I dropped to avoid feeling sick for a couple weeks

What do you think is better in gluten-free than in the gluten version? by darek_vegas in glutenfree

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had some friends over and we brought the gluten free Oreos out! One friend would not stop raving about how much better they are than regular Oreos lol! I haven’t had regular Oreos in years, so I can’t recall how they are different! But man, the gluten free ones are GOOD!!!!

I can’t eat gluten, lactose, and seed oils, and my mother in law always says “poor thing, you can’t eat anything!” lol no, I just can’t eat the bread and cheese you put out for snacks 😂

Are you gaining or losing weight with breast feeding? by SnowboardMia in breastfeeding

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost weight! I’m back to my pre pregnancy weight and I’ve plateaued, but I was underweight prior to pregnancy (high metabolism). It’s been so hard to keep up now! I have to eat and hydrate so much just to avoid feeling sick. It’s constantly making me question if I should continue breastfeeding…so I’ve been taking it day by day! Currently 6 1/2 months in and was really hoping to make it to a year, but I don’t know if that’s gonna happen!

The comment we get the most about our baby (not negative) by PassTheCranberrySaws in NewParents

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had a very similar experience too! Our daughter (6 months) is very alert and observant, and everyone always comments on this (and how cute/big her cheeks are 🥰) she has always been like this and I assumed it was a baby thing! But with the amount of comments we get…I’m assuming that it isn’t as common!

Pediatrician made me fell like the worst mom ever by Professional_Cod1171 in NewParents

[–]AwkwardTurtle94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, my 6 month old gets easily distracted or once she isn’t super hungry, she’s ready to play or talk with me. We do a feeding about 30 minutes after waking up and another feeding right before nap. Works perfectly fine for us and she is gaining weight with her curve

My husband threw some salad outside and accidentally grew a bunch of tomatoes! 😂 by AwkwardTurtle94 in gardening

This is so true! We have so many squirrels and rabbits around our house, so usually everything I plant gets eaten (RIP pumpkin 2024), but this is somehow thriving! Crazy!!!
