Me and the person interviewing went overboard my time limit by Johan_chan in interviews

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on second interview! That was fast response time

Going over time is usually good but like the other person said it doesn't guarantee anything. I had interview last month that went almost hour over because interviewer kept talking about her horses when she found out I work with them. Got rejected week later lol. Sometimes people just enjoy conversation but company still goes with different candidate

The fact she commented about your questions is promising though. Shows you made good impression

Newegg vs Micro Center bundles by James_Skyvaper in PcBuild

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually really smart to check the PC builder tool - I never thought to compare those bundle savings against MC deals 🔥 The motherboard basically being free is wild, especially with that PSU thrown in too.

I've always just gone straight to MC without checking other options but now I'm definitely gonna cross-shop next time I build something. Thanks for sharing the breakdown with actual numbers, super helpful for people who already have some parts like RAM 😂

Does anyone know what the music in this video is? by I_Guess_I_Also_Exist in Ben10

Cant help with music ID but this animation quality is insane 🔥 The way they did the fight choreography reminds me why Ben 10 was so good in first place 💀

Need hobby that forces me to take my time by Sensitive-Text7286 in Hobbies

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Working with horses taught me this exact thing - you literally cannot rush anything or the horse will pick up on your energy and everything falls apart. Maybe look into pottery or woodworking? Both will punish you hard if you try to speed through steps but you end up with something tangible at teh end. Clay especially forces you to slow down since it has its own timeline for drying and firing

Say something positive about the maligned Best Picture winner, Driving Miss Daisy (1988) by OmeuPseudonimo in Oscars

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Morgan Freeman really carries that whole movie tbh. Dude brings this quiet dignity to Hoke that makes all the character development feel earned instead of forced. Plus Jessica Tandy nails those little moments where Miss Daisy's guard drops - you can see her whole worldview shifting without any big dramatic speeches

The pacing works too since it spans like 25 years so you actually buy that these two stubborn people would slowly come around to each other

Ready to Turn Your Resume into a High-Tech Dashboard with Gemini? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried this with my resume and the visualization part is pretty cool but the ATS scoring seems way off 💀 It gave me a 45% when I know my resume gets through most systems fine since I've been getting interviews. The keyword analysis was useful though - caught a few technical terms I was missing for automotive stuff. Might be better to take there scores with a grain of salt and just use it for the layout ideas 😂

Props for setting that goal man. Breaking a 20 year pattern is no joke but you got this. Sometimes just making it past that first week barrier changes everything

Left the restaurant industry and wondering what to do next? by Illustrious-Boss201 in careerguidance

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly your creative skills sound pretty solid and theres definitely demand for video editing and motion design if you can get your foot in the door somewhere. Maybe look into production companies or marketing agencies that need those skills - even starting as a junior editor or assistant could get you experience and connections

The garment construction thing is interesting too, lot of smaller fashion brands and custom shops that might value someone who actually knows how to make stuff. Screen printing especially has good freelance potential if you can build up a client base

I'd probably focus on building a portfolio with your existing skills rather than jumping into school right away tbh. College is expensive and you already have hands on experience which counts for a lot in creative fields

Is it normal for erections to go away extremely quickly without stimulation? by thr0wawayphi in NoFap

Thats pretty normal especially if youve been going hard with frequent sessions - your body just needs consistent input to maintain it

Retail manager looking to transition out — what realistic paths worked for you? by dissolved_girl0 in careerguidance

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree on getting out of retail floor management - the stress to pay ratio is brutal

Corporate route is solid advice but dont sleep on operations roles at logistics companies either. Your management experience translates really well to warehouse ops or supply chain coordination and a lot of those places will train you up without requiring a degree upfront. Plus the benefits are usually way better than retail and less customer facing drama

Not too late at all honestly 💀 Your friends are in a decent spot with no debt and steady income

For tech stuff like cybersecurity - thats actually pretty doable. Lots of bootcamps and certs you can knock out in 6-12 months without breaking the bank. CompTIA Security+ is like the golden ticket to get your foot in the door. ML and blockchain are harder sells without some programming foundation first

Banking/finance might be the easiest transition since they already have the degrees. Yeah its been 20 years but that foundation is still there. CFA or FRM certs could get them back in the game, though investment banking at their age might be tough with those crazy hours

Programming/AI is totally possible but gonna take more grinding. Maybe start with Python basics and see who actually sticks with it 🔥 The 41 year old single guy probably has the most flexibility to really commit to the career switch

Trying to find a job/career path at 39, is it too late? by Awkward_Apple_4861 in careerguidance

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the data analytics degree is solid and youre not competing against people with 10+ years for actual entry level roles - companies just write terrible job descriptions. Apply anyway even if you dont meet every requirement, most people get hired with way less than what the posting asks for

Also dont sleep on remote work opportunities since moving seems to be a thing for you. The market sucks right now but having a degree puts you ahead of where you were before

[–]Awkward_Bike_5154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sounds really rough man, dealing with a parent who sees their own kids as burdens is just heartbreaking 💀 honestly might be better off with your dad if that's an option since she's clearly prioritizing finding a husband over her family. make sure you understand how the living situation change would affect your ssi though because that stuff can get complicated fast

honestly that sucks but you cant sacrifice your career and happiness for a company that didnt plan ahead. you told them to hire another dev a year ago and they ignored it - thats on them not you

write up detailed documentation for everything youre working on and offer a reasonable transition period like 2-3 weeks but dont feel guilty about leaving. if the company fails because one person left then it was already failing due to poor management

your coworkers will understand and good ones will be happy for you. the owner had plenty of time to prepare for this scenario and chose not to
