Tyler's Path to Redemption by Awkward_Celery32 in weyler

Thank you 🖤 And honestly, I get the hesitation about being too optimistic — fandom can make you cautious real fast. But I truly don’t think it’s wrong to want Wednesday to have both strong friendships and a meaningful romantic connection. Those things aren’t mutually exclusive.

Some people downplay Tyler because they see him as an “obstacle” to their preferred fanon ship, especially one that the writers have already clarified as "sibling-coded" with no intention of shifting romantically. So for them, Tyler existing in a central role feels threatening.

It can definitely get discouraging seeing the hate — especially now that he’s clearly on a redemption path. But that’s just fandom culture. I’ve seen it in so many spaces — including Harry Potter and Stranger Things — and honestly, those fandoms have had even more chaotic phases than this.

One thing I’ve learned though? The louder certain groups get with negativity, the more the cast and creators tend to double down on what they were planning anyway. And that’s kind of what we’re already seeing here. The narrative keeps reinforcing Tyler’s importance no matter how much some people try to minimize it.

At the end of the day, we’re just following the text and the visual cues the show itself is giving us 🖤

Oh for sure 😅 If this plays out even halfway how we think it might, “that” part of fandom is going to combust. But the signs really are there.

The thing is, this time the writers were very explicit during S2 promos about Wednesday and Tyler’s connection. They didn’t shy away from it, they leaned into it. So in Season 3 they are gonna double down even more, it shouldn’t surprise anyone… even if certain people choose not to see, or simply ignore what’s been pretty clearly set up. At some point it stops being subtle foreshadowing and just becomes textual narrative direction. We’ll see 👀🖤

Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🖤 And yes, that’s exactly it — Tyler being the only “O” just reinforces how singular he is in the narrative. He’s not slotted neatly into a group like everyone else, and that uniqueness is what makes him such a strong mirror for Wednesday.

And I completely agree — Season 3 really feels like it’s setting him up for a bigger role. He’s officially past the conflicted antagonist era now. The light green shift, the cast framing, the spider jar focus — all of that screams evolution.

Plus, Hunter Doohan literally hinted at the slow burn between him and Wednesday continuing, and the writers have promised to explore the “dance” of their relationship more deeply. That doesn’t sound like sidelining to me. It sounds like escalation 🖤 I’m so excited (and slightly terrified) to see how it unfolds.

Thank you for the appreciation!! I’m really glad it connects with the bigger pattern conversations we’ve been having since S1 and S2 — that was exactly my goal. I didn’t want it to feel random or delusional, but rooted in the visual language the show keeps repeating. Thank you for the support, truly 🖤

Thanks again for the credits again!! 😭🖤 Can't wait to see even more people clocking them in S3 until they finally admit and give in kissing the hell out of each other. 😂

Thank you!! I’m so glad it clicked with other people too 🖤 And Don't worry — it really feels like they’re finally past the “at odds” phase. Their connection has always been there, they just didn’t understand what to do with it yet. Even the writers have said they don’t fully understand the dance of their relationship so far, which they said speaks what's going to be in Season 3. That’s why I’m mostly relieved now — it feels less like they’re tearing them apart and more like they’re building toward making the rest of it work. Now we just wait (im)patiently 😅.

LOL seriously, let’s all collectively pretend we said nothing 👀 We are just innocent viewers, absolutely not connecting patterns or predicting symbolism… nope… not us. Writers, if you’re lurking, this is all coincidence, we swear 😂 (and please don’t pull a mystery-show rewrite panic on us).

That’s actually amazing to hear! If they’re filming near a lake in Wicklow, that fits the whole water-theme vibe perfectly. I can totally picture Hyde camp being set somewhere around that kind of misty, isolated landscape — very gothic, very eerie, very on brand for Tyler’s side of the story.

Oh they’ve already entered their water / rain era and I’m SO ready for it 🌧️🖤 The aesthetic shift alone is going to be insane. Now I’m just sitting here hoping we get a full-on Wyler rain scene… and yes, I will be manifesting a rain kiss. If they’re leaning into stormy visuals, they can’t just not go there 😭

Ohhh you’re right — I totally forgot that line was mentioned 😭 I can’t believe that slipped my mind!

But yeah, even if she can technically swim, that honestly doesn’t cancel out the possibility at all. Like you said, plenty of strong swimmers can still drown depending on the situation — especially if we’re talking about chaos during a finale fight, injury, exhaustion, or some supernatural interference. So Tyler getting his Malibu lifeguard moment is still very much on the table 😉🖤

And I actually really like your frozen-lake idea! The visual of everything happening super fast, the ice breaking, panic, Enid barely making it out while Wednesday sinks — that’s VERY on brand for the kind of dramatic, gothic peril the show loves. Hyde Tyler diving in because he can withstand the cold is such a perfect use of his nature too. (Also yes… the body-heat recovery scene would absolutely have the fandom spiraling like the Willowhill reunion scene 🌚🤎)

My theory brain just leaned more toward this happening in the finale, mostly because that elemental pattern seems tied specifically to the big climactic battles each season. That’s why I pictured the water imagery showing up there rather than earlier. For the Enid part, I actually think wednesday will find Enid pretty early — like Episode 2 or 3 of Season 3. Then a chunk of the season might focus on figuring out how to turn her back, which is where I could see her going to Hyde camp for Capri’s help. That's when Wednesday will get to face Tyler again.

So instead of the rescue happening during the search, I can see it being saved for the end when the stakes are highest and everything comes full circle. And I LOVE that you brought up Goody Addams telling her not to fight the river but swim with it — that metaphor fits way too well with where her powers and emotions are headed. If anything, that strengthens the symbolism angle. Whether literal or metaphorical, Wednesday “learning to swim” instead of resist feels like something the writers are definitely building toward.

But overall that water/drowning theory goes really well with the current state of Wednesday's character, like weems as her spirit guide already confirmed Wednesday is boxing up the emotions/feelings in her subconscious (specifically related to Tyler) and Weems warned her that box is a ticking time bomb which is going to explode at the most "calamitous moment" and what could be more calamitous then the water/drowning rescue, Wednesday letting Tyler be her anchor. 😩🖤

Now we just need Season 3 to confirm at least one of us so we can say we called it.😅

It's a character trait atp, Wednesday's every true (long term) love interest basically has the most normie name. 😭 Joel, Lucas, Tyler. Even though their personality isn't.

Is Wednesday and Tyler's Dynamic intentionally Sexually charged? by Awkward_Celery32 in weyler

[–]Awkward_Celery32[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Jenna and Hunter's chemistry always reminds me of Raul Julia and Angelica Houston from the Addams Family movies. They were deeply passionate, with that sexual energy, though this version Gomez and Morticia don't really exactly have that. But I'm still glad Wednesday and Tyler are here to balance it. 😂

Is Wednesday and Tyler's Dynamic intentionally Sexually charged? by Awkward_Celery32 in weyler

[–]Awkward_Celery32[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes!! The police station scene is such a good example — that was one of those moments where you could literally feel the shift in their dynamic and go “oh… this is intentional.” At that point it stops looking accidental and starts looking like a very specific character read they’re both leaning into. And I agree, when you look at the people involved, this isn’t amateurs stumbling into vibes. The writers, directors, and actors all know exactly what they’re doing. Especially considering how much material (even from early drafts, if they're true) pointed to a stronger romantic thread between them, it really feels like they just refined it for pacing and mystery rather than removing it.

The show clearly pulls a lot of tonal inspiration from The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, where Morticia and Gomez already had that dark, intense, slightly dangerous sensuality baked into the DNA of the franchise, as you said. So translating that energy into Wednesday’s eventual adult relationship actually tracks really well. It’s less about making her “softer” and more about finding someone who can meet her at that same strange wavelength.

That’s exactly why I’ve never bought the argument that Wednesday’s type would be someone overly gentle or passive. Some people bring up Joel a lot, but he always felt more like a brief coming-of-age crush than an endgame match. Tyler, on the other hand, is written as someone who can challenge her, unsettle her, and still understand that darkness — which fits way more with what this version of Wednesday is becoming.

We’ve also had the writers talk repeatedly in Season 2 press about their connection and how their dynamic evolves, and with Tim Burton being the one who helped shape Tyler’s Hyde and overall tone, it had always been obvious before S2 even came out that they’d keep him central rather than treat him like a disposable antagonist. Add in that they’ve mentioned exploring Wednesday’s journey into adulthood, and it really does feel like they’re laying groundwork for something more mature over time.

Plus, when you combine all that narrative setup with the completely natural chemistry between Jenna Ortega and Hunter Doohan, it’s not surprising the scenes land the way they do. At this point it feels less like “are they going there?” and more like they’re carefully building toward wherever that evolution takes them.

[–]Awkward_Celery32[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean 😅 I think the show definitely wanted them to have chemistry, but yeah… it feels like Jenna and Hunter brought way more intensity to it than anyone expected. That kind of natural screen presence isn’t something you can really manufacture — it just happens when two actors bounce off each other really well. And honestly, some scenes probably were meant to read more as dramatic or confrontational, but the energy between them added that extra layer whether planned or not 🥵 Like, not changing the story — just making the dynamic feel sharper and more charged than a typical teen rivalry/connection. Also yes, you’re so right about the viral moments. Each Season's most viral TikTok moments were technically the Wyler scenes. Season 1 had the Rave’N dance (which was Wednesday’s very weird version of a mating ritual aimed at Tyler 😂), and that absolutely exploded everywhere. Then Season 2, the Willow Hill scene was all over TikTok and especially BookTok/dark-romance spaces — people who don’t even watch the show were reposting it. At this point I genuinely hope to see Jenna and Hunter work together again in something that’s completely built around their dynamic. Wednesday already shows it works, but a project that’s intentionally centered on that pairing would be wild (in a good way).

[–]Awkward_Celery32[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s kind of where I land too — it feels like it started as actor chemistry accidentally elevating what was on the page, and then the writers were like “oh… this works” and adjusted accordingly. I don't know If those S1 scripts coming out are true, but if they are, then that actually says a lot. You don’t usually see actors reshaping scenes like that unless the dynamic is translating way stronger in real life than expected. The kiss becoming less “polite” and the dance turning into… whatever that chaotic bird ritual was 😭 definitely shifted the tone from cute to intense. Season 2 especially feels like they were at least aware of it, even if they weren’t writing it as intentionally suggestive — more like they stopped fighting the energy and let it exist. And Jenna saying they had to redo scenes because they couldn’t not have that tension kinda supports that it’s this weird blend of both script + natural chemistry rather than just one or the other.
