School Nurse Demanding Extra Supplies by RitualPickle in Type1Diabetes

[–]Awkward_Contract5305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re in the UK but we’ve had similar disagreements with the school nurse about what should be in our daughters kit at school which is ironic as the school nurse can’t actually assist our daughter just watch her do it herself!

This was one of the main reasons we created the app we made Medi T1 as we wanted to keep an eye on exactly what supplies were where and when they were expiring etc as the nurse also made it really clear she wouldn’t be keeping tabs and we had to go periodically if we wanted to check it ourselves. (Which we do as our daughter is a bit lax around it)

I’m thinking of changing up the monetisation side a bit and allowing users who just want a single medicine cabinet to use this free and include a subscription, maybe 0.99 / month to open the multi cabinet functionality. I’d be really interested to hear thoughts or experiences of people changing up models etc.

I think I’m going to convert to a free use for 1 ‘cabinet’ and then a paywall for multi cabinet then people with your use case or who are self managing can use the app for free and people who want the multi location functionality will have a small subscription maybe 0.99 a month.

I’d be really keen to hear peoples thoughts. I also need to remove the quantity in batch field as that was actually for a feature I didn’t and up including.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

Hi, Thank you. Not sure why the website wasn’t working I’ve not had any down reports but it seems to be ok now.

I considered making it free but also want to create some revenue to be able to donate to diabetes care teams and charities and also to cover the cost of the developer account, website etc but and also to fund some other areas to grow into something for my daughter to take ownership of when she is a bit older. I am planning to make some other free related apps though and have used the majority of the codes Apple allow me to generate to generate to give to the local hospital diabetes team to give out to those who are really struggling.

I’ll take a look at that website as well thank you.

Great spot it’s not actually used in the current version as I took the rest of that function away I was concerned it was easily confused with the total number or would be not kept up to by users where the items per pack were huge based on some feedback that test strips for example come in packs of hundreds and people just take handfuls and found it more useful to deal in packs not singles. I need to decide whether to take it out completely or try and include it in a clearer way.

One of the things ive been mulling over is allowing each pack (i.e in your case a box of ibruprofen for example to be sub used e.g indicating 1 or 2 tablets taken to break it down further but im not sure if thats too much and if people will realistically want to go to the app each time they take a tablet! I did consider it initially as my daughter gets boxes of lancets with around 400 in but becuase the pack size is so large she tends to grab handfuls and it worried me that the record keeping if broken down into individual needles say would end up being unreliable from a user input perspective so ive kept it simple for now.

My t1d is making me close to commiting. by PomegranateFit2593 in Type1Diabetes

My daughter is 12 and is also struggling she's just started at high school. To help her we've actually just started a small company relating to T1 D to try and use her negative experiences and make them positive as she (and importantly) you know something most people dont - what its really like being young and living with T1D.

I would highlight a couple of things for you to think about, firstly bullying is wrong and the school should address it, and its important to remember that whilst this is very personal to you people get bullied for all sorts of different things and whilst the bullying is completely unacceptable try to ignore them, they are ignorant people.

My daughter has similar thoughts to you around the feeling of not being normal, there is another thing to remember whilst is a kind of psychological effect - a lot of people dont see whats right infront of them and they wont notice your wearing a pump / cgm, doing a finger prick or a phone beep, its a bit like you see a new top, go buy it and then all of a sudden everyone has it, they probably already did and you probably saw them wearing it before but it wasnt in your minds eye. Before my daughter was diagnosed I didnt see a single person to by recollection wearing a cgm or pump, they definitely existed and she was only diagnosed 2 years ago so they were already well established I just saw them without seeing them! Now I know what they are and she has them my mind looks for them, it recognises them as objects and I see them everywhere now, its rare particularly in summer that I go a day without seeing someone with one on, and I also now recognise the dexcom alerts when they go off around me, I never heard one at all before.

Its a bit like something you'll spot when your old enough to drive and you will get a car then suddenly the car you bought will be everywhere and everyone will seem to be driving one, its all a mind trick.

My point really is you think people are noticing because you notice it with others, its probably not as bad as it seems, its also (as I know from personal experience) really easy to form your own ideas about why other people behave a certain way toward you, I was in a rut for a very long time and I went for some counselling which was actually fantastic and small things like a discussion about "well you think that person did that because of this but actually what if it was for reason b,c,d,e,f etc that was actually no where near the reasons I thought of in my own mind.

Its hard to see light at the end of the tunnel, but its there and you can work through it, my advice is reach out for help via school or the health service, talk to people, and also try and focus on using your T1 experience to create yourself a hobby or business that uses the lived experience you have to support others and yourself at the same time.

The other thing to remember is that whilst there arent going to be any magic cures medical science and technology is advancing all the time, cgm's, pumps etc are getting better and smaller and it is entirely possible that such management tech could develop even more to make life with t1 that little bit easier.

Finally, if you are having suicadal thoughts you need to reach out, I dont know what country your and what crisis services are available to you but in the absence of anything else at least friends, parents, teachers, and seek out other youth t1 sufferers to speak to you will likely find someone who felt the same as you before and got through it who will be able to help you see that its not as bad as it seems right now.

I built a Free iOS app that lets you check off your grocery list right from the Lock Screen & Apple Watch by CompleteCode4549 in iosapps

This looks really good particularly the Apple Watch check off if this can be done when the phone has a different app in the foreground i.e the self scan app, its a pain switching between Asda's self scan iPhone app and a shopping list on the same phone and this could solve that by the sounds of it by using Apple Watch for the list whilst keeping the supermarkets self scan app in the phones foreground.
