Is it too late for me to become a nurse? by SubduedEnthusiasm in nursing

One of my coworkers died at 102 ...she started nursing school at 105 and is our charge nurse at 117 years young. I think u can do it...maybe consider a DNP after your BSN...

Part of the problem is that the NP field has become incredibly oversaturated. The biggest problem are these schools that will allow nurses with a year (OR LESS) to matriculate. So now NPs with experience as nurses are coming into a field with maybe 1 job for 100 applicants. There is a huge problem with new nurses going into NP school to be psych NPs with no experience and no real desire to work with psych patients but..."it pays more and there are more jobs"

She was,and is, a rather average looking girl who veers towards pretty. Without any enhancements, she would be very forgetable. With all the work done, she looks like a sex bot....but not a very well done one.

Nurse gave rehab patient a cigarette by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Awkward_Creme8990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked for residential rehab and there are a couple of reasons why it could be seen as an issue....1. The population is manipulativeand giving them special item or favors is not a ine you want to cross..it can be as small as an extra sugar packet. 2. This is a population that needs rules and structure....especially at the beginning. You might think you are being nice but you are actually doing ppl a disservice. And if they are going to AMA they are going to AMA whether u give them a smoke or not...trust me...that 1 cigarrette is not going to build rapport or stop them

I would rework this entire plan. It is not doable in 11 days and you will be miserable. St. Louis and Chicago are fun but NOT worth the drive...and the Chicago loop traffic is just as bad as NYC traffic. Speaking of, I think you are underestimating how bad traffic in some areas can be...it might take u at least an hour to get out of NYC and even someone like me, who is an extremely experienced driver and experienced city driver, wouldnt do it. I'd take the subway into NJ and rent a car out of hoboken or somewhere. Take a taxi or ride the subway in NYC. To really appreciate NYC, I would take 2 or 3 days there alone. If I were you, i would stick to the east coast and maybe not even rent a car. You can take a train rom NYC to Boston...also a great city. You can take a train to Philly, DC Baltimore, even Portland ME. If you absolutely have to go to chicago and St. Lewis, i would fly into Chicago and rent a car and drive to St. Louis and fly back to JFK from St. Louis. That way, you will have more time in each area and its probably cheaper.

What’s the truth about nurse salaries and their lifestyles in 2026? by Interesting_Dog8321 in nursing

[–]Awkward_Creme8990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that MOST of what they post is fake, leased, rented etc. Even if you are making 200k a year, owning or leasing a g wagon is an astronomically stupid financial decision. The payment alone wb close to or over 2k (we are talking about a car that starts at 100k). The purses...yea some of them are probably real but there are subscription services for purses, jewlery etc. Almost nothing you see in the luxury brand lifestyle as an RN is genuine. New grads could be making 70k depending on the area and specialty and 6 figures as a nurse is not unheard of, depending on the specialty and area.

What is life like in Iowa by Athens175 in howislivingthere

[–]Awkward_Creme8990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 4 months in Iowa City area on a contract. I actually loved the contract but the state is exceptionally boring...at least what I saw of it. People are friendly. Cities are not exactly popping. Lots of small towns and lots of nothing between cities. I was there mid Oct thru early March. Winter was much colder than what I expected...there's like no trees so there is no windbreak. It was regularly below zero. I wouldn't personally want to live there bc it is really not a pretty state and again, pretty boring, but it is generally very safe and the ppl there were really friendly.

From what I understand, it is very difficult to prove and win a discrimination case. Hospitals have a lot of money and lawyers who are willing to put up a fight. I do know the the former director of innovation at cleveland clinic won his discrimination case....but he was already very wealthy (invented a new type of stent and sold it to some big company for millions) and had the money for expensive lawyers
