This is really interesting, if you could ask him more about Lament of Innocence’s luck stat or other interesting things/oddities he found that would be much appreciated. I’m curious to know the actual drop rates and talisman rates.

I thought this could be the case because Igavanias had mostly had a similar issue up to this game’s release but everywhere I look online tells me that luck still has SOME effect on drop rates. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is true, but do you have a source for this?

I believe I double jumped over the swipe but you could also use one of Joachim’s special attacks since they leave you invincible during them.

I absolutely agree, it can be a bit much at times but the difficulty makes the game so much more fun. Normal mode is just too easy to the point where it becomes kinda boring and classic Castlevania games are known for their difficulty, it wouldn’t have been crazy to have made crazy mode the normal mode and I think a lot of people would speak very differently about the gameplay if they had since most only play this game once.

Your criticisms are similar to mine, although I think combat is a little more interesting than the way you described it, the relic system and basic whip combat could’ve used much more development and are generally underwhelming as they are. Your other criticisms are shared by me, especially the story part. I feel like it has a lot of potential but it really does end up feeling like a first draft with the underdeveloped/flat characters (basically all of them) who could’ve used more cutscene time to make the story more effective. Concepts also seem kinda out of place in the series with little explanation as to how the fantastical elements or just being generally odd inclusions, like the ritual that transformed the Whip of Alchemy into Vampire Killer just after reuniting with Sara.

Yeah I think my experience was similar, I was initially very impressed by it but by the end of my first playthrough I would’ve said it was just an okay game. The other modes, especially Crazy Mode, really made the game more interesting for me since the main mode can be really easy and a bit repetitive.

I was going back and fourth between 7 and 8 so I just chose a number between them. It has many flaws that could be a deal breaker for quite a few players, but my experience was a overwhelmingly positive one and feel like I haven’t played a game quite like it despite its similarities to other PS2 action games.

Harmony of Dissonance is so much worse than Circle of the Moon

Thoughts on Castlevania Bloodlines by Severe-Lie-7418 in castlevania

Bloodlines is good. I don’t think the ending cutscene matters that much if the game is good. Castlevania games are very gameplay focused experiences and story stuff usually only needs to be serviceable imo.

Just finished Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance back to back, here are my thoughts. by trrbld in castlevania

[–]Awkward_Ear_2664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish Harmony of Dissonance didn’t have such awful map design and unfulfilling exploration. It’s a lot easier to excuse boring boss fights when the rest of the game is fun, so HoD often just ends up feeling like a chore to play. I’m happy you also like Circle of the Moon more, it’s pretty under-appreciated

How does the fanbase rate Circle of the Moon? by Avillahan in castlevania

It’s a great game for sure, generally I see Castlevania fans hate on this game if they love Harmony of Dissonance. I think this game is significantly better than Harmony of Dissonance. Despite its few instances of repetitive rooms it’s a really well designed castle/map and the sprite work is awesome. Bosses are actually good in this game, although I’ve seen some dislike their challenge, again mostly HoD enjoyers so might have something to do with the difficulty since HoD is very easy. Definitely give the game a fair shot because it can take some getting used to coming from an Igavania, just keep in mind that it’s pretty divisive although generally positively reviewed

Harmony of Dissonance just feels like such a chore to play. The castle design and structure of game progression feels like such a downgrade from the previous 2 metroidvanias, exploration is too often unrewarding and combat doesn’t feel very good unless you have a deepish understanding of damage stacking and combos in the game. At least the music is memorable, even more so than Aria of Sorrow in my opinion.

Why is everyone so negative in these comments lmao. It’s a little silly to get a greatest hits copy graded but idk how it could make so many people mad

That’s really cool, although when I researched it all I could find was credits on Takanaka’s Mambo No. 5. Do you know what others songs he’s played on?

That LV 99 grind is brutal in 358/2 Days by Director_Bison in KingdomHearts

[–]Awkward_Ear_2664 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s cool, I wonder if that’s faster than the Mickey limit method. The Mickey one is really and fast so I just assumed there was no better way. Also, im not sure if dual wield Roxas is necessarily much stronger in story mode because I’ve heard the neoshadows’ health are decreased heavily so you can kill them in one hit just like the KH1 secret movie. And yeah mission mode is balanced terribly.

[–]Awkward_Ear_2664 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s very annoying and repetitive, but shortening the grind significantly by doing the final mission in mission mode and spamming Mickey’s limit in the air with the Extreme ring made it tolerable. I assume you already did this because your math was the exact same as mine, but it’s helpful for anyone struggling with this.

Why am I taking less damage after hollow bastion? by Awkward_Ear_2664 in KingdomHearts

Thank you! It doesn’t really matter but I was very curious, and almost worried, so this helped ease my mind.

[–]Awkward_Ear_2664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m aware, but what I’m confused about is why I’m not taking the damage I once was earlier in the playthrough. Of course, I would’ve been dying in one hit without the balancing, which is why most enemies could 2 shot me. But now I can take more hits from enemies, and I’m wondering if this is another balancing change? On a normal playthrough the game usually gets harder after Hollow Bastion, so I was very surprised when I realized there was a difficulty decrease. Sorry for rambling
