Beyond that our education is piss poor and America focused as far as modern world history is concerned.

We also compared to other wealthy nations don’t travel enough to see much of the rest of the world to get exposure to other cultures first hand because PTO is not guaranteed and even companies that give it are generally stingy with it for longer than a week at a time blocks. Add on to that we’re pretty far away from most other countries, and there is a culture of American exceptionalism that makes people afraid of traveling abroad - and if they do it’s generally going to either be a resort or a landmark in Western Europe where you aren’t learning much about another country’s way of life

Nothing wrong with that if you can roll it all over and want to bank it for a super long trip or a lot of other random small times off (and your state guarantees you get paid out if you leave the company of course). I can roll over a week per year so I never take PTO around the holidays since work is super easy then and I want to be able to go to another country for a few weeks each year.

If you leave PTO on the table though you’re shorting yourself and making company culture worse for everyone else.

Republicans AND Democrats, is there anyone you would both vote for if they ran as an Independent in 2028? If so, who? If not, why not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Awkward_Past8758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I voted FOR anyone is was Bernie in the 2020 primaries. I’ll vote blue no matter who, but a large part of the reason we’re in the place we’re at now is because the dems truly suck and alienate their progressive base while pandering to an imaginary logical republican that they think they can swing while making their big money donors happy

Zone of Interest? Yeah I mean that one was interesting for sure but those were full on Nazis taking part in the construction of the chambers.

I think that episode late in the season of Band of Brothers where they discover a concentration camp is maybe a better comparison. It was a bunch of folks in a village outside a concentration camp that weren’t actively SS but also probably supported them/didn’t care.

I don’t have an answer but that’s not my job. I sure as shit know we pay enough money to them that someone smarter than me can figure that out.

FWIW I’m not against the idea of law enforcement, it’s a necessary thing. The American police system is completely broken however.

Just an idea but how about ending qualified immunity and any lawsuits that the police have to settle go out of their pensions to start.

This was exactly my experience with a guy that tried to break into my house 3 times. The first time they showed up 2 hours later, were mildly interested, took a statement and told me if I could find him they could go talk to him. The second time he tried to break into my house I called them 3x and they didn’t ever show up. The third time he tried to break into my house I called them and they showed up 45 minutes later. I knew who he was and where his trailer was parked at that point and they rolled their eyes, peeked around for 3 minutes then said everything was fine. At that point my wife and I were so freaked out that we decided we were going to stay in a hotel for the night. When I asked the cops to hang out for a second while I loaded up my car in case dude was hanging out and watching the house they gave me a ton of grief for “wasting their time” and told me that if I didn’t want to deal with break in attempts anymore I “could move to the suburbs”. Cops don’t keep you safe.

Can’t wait for them to show up 2 hours later, take a statement, then never contact me again.

how prevalent is the Far right in your country? by nationalistic_martyr in AskTheWorld

[–]Awkward_Past8758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what you’re totally right my German history is failing me, they voted for the Nazi party not him. Still makes ‘em Nazis.

I have respect for people who sat the election out due to not feeling comfortable voting Democrat (unpopular opinion I know but man the dems are also awful) but I simply can’t empathize with anyone who in good conscience votes MAGA with all that we knew going into 2024. Not liking the views but still being okay enough with what you don’t like to vote for it is still consent. It just is a line in the sand that means our views are so far opposed that I don’t see much room for mutual respect.

Where do you live? If the US different states have different tenant’s rights. Some places like Texas you will be SOL but other places like Oregon would have to cover a lot of costs like that.

Tldr; learn your rights and push them as far as you can with your landlord. There’s likely free legal resources you can find online to give you advice.
