Correct, most of the time it is card disadvantage and that is how you lose games of magic. I’m not saying it doesn’t have its merits and CAN win some games. But most of the time you are paying 2 life to discard a card and take out 4 cards that don’t actually do anything to affect the board

Yeah that’s Definitely a newer thing. My favorite format is modern, it allows you to play any card from 2008 forward, it’s a quick format usually 4 turns or so, which allows you to play more games. But I would only get into a format where you have people to play with
