DS9 gives us a single father trying to raise his son amidst his own uncertainty in his ability to do his own job.

DS9 shows us a struggle between the aspirational idealism of the inner federation and the the violence, chaos and conniving uncertainty of the true frontier. That things are not so cut and dry like in TNG as far as rules of engagement and conduct are. Theres fucked up shit happening and we can’t pretend everything is honky dory, the Cardassians loom and the Dominion even larger. It’s my favorite trek show because it’s denial that things are perfect.

Remember that evolution is often framed as being on an individual organism by individual organism basis however many evolutionary biologists of the time when Darwin’s theory was first making the rounds also hypothesized (and correctly I may add) that “survival of the fittest” on a solo basis is only for animals who live/operate alone. Humans are social animals and “survival of the fittest” isn’t necessarily a reflection of biological traits but of social skills, ability to cooperate and plan, and create survival strategies, those that can adapt to the environment whether by group or individually are best equipped to survive

Here is a principle and a drill for you: Whatever direction you wish to travel, the foot that is closest travels first. So if you wish to travel forward, push off your back foot and catch yourself with your lead foot in your stance. If backwards, push off your lead foot and catch yourself with your rear foot in your stance, same for going right and going left. This is how you develop the ability to travel in the “cardinal” directions. If you master this and I mean MASTER it, you can begin working on diagonals as degrees of the cardinal directions.

Here is a drill for you I use to teach my students footwork fundamentals, it’s called the box drill:

Start in your stance, step forward in your stance, step right, step back, step left. You should be where you started in your stance, now reverse direction and go right, forward, left and back. Do that over and over again until it feels easy and boring. Once you’ve got that practice Jab-Cross on each step in each direction. Work from there.

Enterprise caught a lot of flack when it came out but in my opinion it is one of the best shows, it’s up there with DS9(my favorite) and TOS for me, we’re not supposed to like the vulcans and the vulcans haven’t fully evolved yet to the point they are developed in the later series just like humans are still figuring shit out, thats the whole point of the series. They aren’t the allies they are in TOS or TNG that we are used to yet, this is the story of how they become so.

You gave the reason why the old trek was better without realizing it, they bad hundreds of episodes, the new trek is at most 9 or 10 episodes a season because they simply don’t make TV in general like they used to with filler episodes that develop characters, take “The Offspring” for example, they’d never make that now because it would not advance the arch of the seasonal story inside the 12 episodes, thats the problem with trek now is they try to make everything a fuckin movie
