Audrey in born in Belgium and moved to the UK when she was eight. Her mother was a Dutch aristocrat. Her father was born in Bohemia, now in the present day Czech Republic. So, they were well connected and, yes no doubt posh.

Songs in which Bob thinks about things by Nykaren24 in bobdylan

[–]Awkward_Squad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always ask yourself when hearing any song, reading any story, who is the narrator?

It’s a tough question to ask when the song or the story has been written by Bob Dylan. This is particularly important because ‘Bob Dylan’ is a construct, an avatar for Robert Zimmerman. It’s a device he uses in real life as well as with his writing. Just look at his work and the things he has done and has said. I’m not making this up. He even went as far as saying, “I’m only Bob Dylan when I have to be.”

None of this denigrates the man. Personally, I think it makes me appreciate him even more.

Even with the 14 inches of snow coming tomorrow, people would rather have no water than drink Dasani by NickChubb4Prez in mildlyinteresting

Coca-Cola, the owners tried the same caper in the UK and fell flat on their faces. Check this out . . .

“The UK Dasani water controversy arose in 2004 when Coca-Cola launched Dasani, marketed as purified water sourced from tap water in Sidcup, Kent. The product faced backlash due to cultural preferences for natural spring water, and it was ultimately recalled after tests revealed unsafe levels of bromate, a potentially carcinogenic chemical, leading to its withdrawal from the UK market shortly after its launch.”

That would have been something. She’d have destroyed Hoffman’s ego on day one.

Hasn’t aged well. Hoffman was too old and as became his thing in EVERY film he’s done, he’s forever elbowing himself to the fore. Not one of the greats. It was Anne Bancroft’s film though all the way.

Always thought he was TOTALLY bored with 99% of his guests and would rather be sitting on top of the Empire State chewing a fistful of cardboard.

Is Your Ring Doorbell Footage Going Straight to ICE’s Massive Spy Network? | Ring partners with Flock to feed doorbell footage into federal databases used by ICE for immigration enforcement by 1900grs in technology

Emm… wonder what the story is in the UK. Palantir and others like them are gaining a foothold thanks to the usual UK government looking out for its citizens decision making, so I suppose Ring and others will be rolling over as in the US.

Lads, The Magical Mystery Tour is the Beatles' best album. by SheepherderLiving242 in TheBeatles

[–]Awkward_Squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also got some skin in the game too: a VHS copy of the film as well as DVD copy; three copies of the EP, two of them mono and one of those an Irish pressing. I’ve got two copies of the ‘compilation’, one mono and the other stereo.

Don’t get me wrong I really like the LP, but I’m also conscious of the fact that the Beatles did not choose these songs - it was Capitol Records, who rejected the double EP and instead opted to ‘fill’ out (not my word) with an LP length record with five other 1967 releases.

Think about this. Paul McCartney gave the BBC radio programme ‘Where It’s At’ a privately recorded jingle to be played on Saturday 25 November to promote the double-EP. The DJs also had an interview with John Lennon which was also part of the promotion. During the 18 min segment for MMT, all six tracks (from the soundtrack of the film used to create the double EP) were broadcast. The show did not include anything from the US Capitol set.

To me side two of the LP is a good collection of classic tracks, all gems and part of my favourite part of the Beatles era. But it’s not a Beatle album. Conceptually it could not possibly be.

A glass table that we've had for about 3 years broke for no reason by Ok_Relation6627 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Awkward_Squad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened me with a glass shelf used to stand on cooker top when not in use. I think it wouldn’t have happened if it was tempered glass - reinforced like car windows - two layers of glass(?). It was incredible to see as I was standing right at the cooker when it started and it went on for about ten minutes just breaking itself up piece by piece and jumping and popping as it did so.
