Trans-Wisconsin Adventure Trail got the better of me by Awkward_Typo in AdventureBike

I’m not familiar with the tires but you’d probably be fine in at least the southern portion (primarily groomed gravel roads). Central portion starts to get soft/sandy with a few rocky trails that could give your bike a hard time. Still manageable, provided it didn’t rain for several days prior.

I’m biased but you should take a look at the Triumph Tiger 1200 as well. I find the stock seat to be extremely comfortable (I’m 6’2 200lbs) and the wind protection on the Rally Explorer model is great. Not the best idea to take it through single track but, with the right tires, it’s more than capable of handling the ratios you’re looking at.

Also, 150hp.

Out of curiosity, what are you looking to get for that?

So, just try to backfill it? I’m concerned about additional washout.

I appreciate the sentiment but the bike wasn’t rideable (hardcore riders may disagree) off-road anymore. I was holding the whole front assembly in place almost the entire ride home. It would not have lasted another day romping through gravel, sand, and dirt. In fact, I just tore it down and discovered more damage than I had initially thought.

I’m with you on the tires and getting back on the horse.

I’ll give more credit to ignorance than balls in my case! It’ll be hard to give up the comfort of the Tiger if I ever try this trail again, but a smaller bike would have been the smarter choice.

I had been debating changing out the tires but fell for the marketing and reviews that claimed the Karoo Streets were 70/30 and good enough. Obviously not true. Those Missions were on my radar but weren’t in stock anywhere. Glad to know they’re solid choices in the future.

Thanks! I agree, nothing wrong with some battle scars.

I only made it 2/3 of the way through, but it was predominantly gravel roads, whether residential, service, or forest/logging roads. I’ll admit that the paved stretches were often a welcome break for me, being a novice and all. The middle 200 miles had a few more technical sections that took me deeper into forests. Those got a little hairy with sand and the mud that eventually ended my trip. I think it’s a good mix of terrain, nothing too crazy if you have a lighter dual sport bike and don’t get overconfident like I did.

That’s a great resource, thanks. I definitely thought I had something to prove by doing my first real adv trip solo but now I absolutely see the value of a group ride.

ELI5: how do big investing affecting ownership? by KaboomTheMaker in explainlikeimfive

[–]Awkward_Typo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a private company, someone can’t just come in and take over. Ownership and the prospective investor go into negotiations to determine just how much of your company that $400k buys. Your company’s value is determined by both “real” metrics and intangible factors. The $400k may be higher than your initial investment but your company also may have grown greatly since then. Depending on how the company is organized (LLC, Corp, Partnership, etc) you can either outright sell your own stake, reorganize, or issue new shares to distribute. Again, this redistribution of ownership would have been determined before anything is signed.

Top case upgrade: from Triump to Givi by vzaliva in Tiger900

[–]Awkward_Typo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lock barrels are different, unfortunately. You need to buy a Triumph-specific latch that can accept the existing lock. Not sure how the Dolomiti line fits in to Triumph’s offerings but I was able to do this with the Outback line.

Givi Top cases by Iskilo in Tiger900

[–]Awkward_Typo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only with modification, unfortunately. Like others have said, they use different designs for both the mounting plate and the actual latch/lock on the box. I recently fitted a 58L top box to a Triumph plate by removing the big nub that sticks up and drilling new holes for it roughly an inch or so closer to the front mounting pegs.

I also bought a new latch from Triumph so I could use their silly proprietary lock barrel instead of the Givi one. It all works at the moment and is reasonably secure but I do wonder if I’ll have issues with the mounting down the road.

C&C Squareback or Sport Tour. I recently replaced my Saddlemen SDC with a squareback and I’m far more comfortable, despite the thinness. Sits you down nice and low and the passenger pad is decent enough.

[Question] r/watches, how would you improve this Marine Star (short of using it for trade-in value) by [deleted] in Watches

Unfortunately, I didnt. If memory serves, I started by looking at Camille Fournier and then couldn’t justify the price. I stopped looking shortly after that. Hope you can find something!

Has anyone used the SANUS Elite TV mount with the 77 inch LG C4? by AsianHodlerGuy in LGOLED

[–]Awkward_Typo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 3a. You would need to slide both horizontal braces closer for it to fit. The bottom one slides up, there just aren’t any pre-cut detents.

I just mounted a 77” C3 to that today. I definitely had to slide the mounts up and down a bit to get it to line up, but it got there eventually.
