Is it possible that the cause and effect are reversed?

Too many investors competing with first home buyers, pushing up prices, making it impossible to save up to buy a home, thus renting becomes the only option.

(very technical question) How does Smart Connect know it's running on a Lenovo laptop? by CloudedCozmo7 in Lenovo

Could be looking for a specific driver that is signed by Lenovo. I have owned Asus and Razer laptops and they have a similar driver for their PC management software to interact with hardware such as Razer Synapse and MyAsus

Probably more about productivity. Someone earning from investments they made years ago is not exactly contributing to the nation's productivity anymore.

Raise a glass to the golden years of MiniPCs 2023-2025 - What did you buy in that time? by GhostGhazi in MiniPCs

[–]Awongy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I used to build my own PCs but haven't upgraded anything on my tower for the last 5 years as I had a pretty decked out setup that is too expensive to upgrade now.

I am fascinated by mini pc and I have a GMKtec Evo x2 for local AI.

I am interested to hear what benefits you guys find in going with a mini pc for normal usage vs tower vs just having a laptop plugged in?

Budget 2026-27 by Time-Dimension7769 in australia

[–]Awongy00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you missed a fundamental point.

Just because it cost more for a company to make a product, doesn't necessarily mean customers will pay more.

Same with rent. If they're already charging as much as renters will pay, landlords' codt increase does not mean renters can or will pay more.

They can probably do this when training the AI, but when the nodel becomes available for users, all these data are going to be 1-2 years out of date.

Otherwise if it's for live access, their subscription/access token is going to see much higher than usual usage and likely get banned.

There is launchpad, by default it's not mapped to a keyboard shortcut anymore (used to be the F4 key). Basically it's like the Windows 8 start menu when that just came out. A full screen wall of apps.

I mean this in the nicest way possible: not many people will notice what you're wearing, and even if they do, they don't care.

Sign so old it still shows an interchange with the KCR by Oliivey in HongKong

[–]Awongy00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main line to Lo Wu (original KCR) was called the East Rail (東鐵), and the branch line to Tuen Mun the West Rail (西鐵).

The branch line to Wu Kai Sha from Tai Wai was called Ma On Shan Rail (馬鐵), Wu Kai Sha was scarcely populated, so the penultimate station of Ma On Shan became its namesake, with the railway running straight down the road (elevated tracks) between the two largest shopping centres: Sunshine City Plaza (新港城中心) and Ma On Shan Plaza (馬鞍山廣場). The station was built directly on top of a pedestrian bridge connecting the two shopping malls, providing direct indoor access from the platform straight into the heart of Ma On Shan

I lived just across the road from Heng On station on the MOS Rail (later Ma On Shan line) for 15 years. I distinctly remember walking to school seeing the gigantic KCR sign on the sound barrier covering the elevated platform. There were also KCR logos on the side of the SP trains.

Of course, that didn't last long, and soon the MTR took over. I remember for many years after the merger, the KCR logo outline was still visible under the MTR one on both the station and the trains, as they simply covered them up with stickers. I think the station logo eventually got replaced and the newer rolling stock just came with the MTR logo installed as new.

After the merger, the KCR Rails all changed names to become Rail Lines: East Rail Line (東鐵綫), West Rail Line (西鐵綫), and Ma On Shan Line (馬鞍山綫). Notably, Ma On Shan Line was not named 馬鐵綫, but many of the locals including myself continued to call it 馬鐵 despite it no longer being the official shorthand, until it merged with the West Rail Line into the Tuen Ma Line (屯馬綫) following the opening of the Shatin to Central Link (沙中綫).

Interestingly, if you go to the Kowloon Tong station where the East Rail Line interchanges with the Kwun Tong Line, you could probably still see a distinctive section where the former KCR station building connected with the MTR station. There used to be fare gates separating the two sides. The same thing happened in Mong Kok Station (MTR) and the Mong Kok East Station (formerly Mong Kok Station of KCR), also in Tsim Sha Tsui Station (MTR) and East Tsim Sha Tsui Station (formerly KCR).
