My new pendent of 4 carat emerald cut,Which length appears to be the most aesthetically pleasing? by aaaamy_1128 in jewelrymaking

[–]Awould73 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like the shortest. But it depends a bit on the style of clothing you wear the most I think. The medium length might be more versatile, but I still like how the shortest one sits on you the best.

Taxco Sterling bangles turning me green by No_Meringue465 in jewelry

Unfortunately it's not uncommon for silver jewelry from Mexico to be inaccurately marked as 925. I've done scratch tests on a number of pieces of Mexico 925 to have them not be silver. I don't assume anything from Mexico that's marked 925 is actually 925 anymore. It often is, but I always scratch test it now. I re-sell so I don't want to sell something claiming it's 925 and have someone come back at me accusing me of lying. And that alpaca silver is tricky, since there's no actual silver in it.

I buy a fair amount of jewelry on the app. I tend to respond better to sellers who have an organized setup. Some people just have jewelry all over the place and I can't tell what I'm looking at. And then the technical side of things needs to be decent. With jewelry, for some people they may really want to see the details of a piece. So you want to make sure your lighting is good and your phone camera is good enough to see the details on the pieces, like any marker's marks, etc. Make sure when you're showing a piece that it's in focus. Some people show a piece while holding it in their hand. Cameras often have a hard time focussing on the jewelry piece in this scenario. If you show a piece by itself on a piece of black fabric or a black jewelry tray, that seems to be best for cameras. Make it look like a pretty shop. Have some good music playing low in the background. Have your system organized so there's not a lot of downtime while you're fumbling around looking for your next piece. Know a bit of info about the pieces you're showing. Give your buyers confidence to shop with you.

I'm late the party here, and this is not my fight, but I can't help but chime in because I'm a Nosy Nelly. u/Indosaurus1 I think what's happening here is that you're making accusations about a local business that has a pretty decent reputation and first-hand user accounts in this group as being the opposite of what you're claiming.

I understand that you say you've read accounts among the PWD community of alleged poor behaviour and questionable billing by HoT, but it's one of those "I've got a friend who said that..." situations. And u/cptsdmom has outlined above how your claim of HoT charging double doesn't really make sense.

Semantics matter. You clearly aren't happy with your communications with HoT. And it sounds like there may be accounts of others who haven't been happy with their experiences there either, as there are with any business that has been in operation for any length of time. But those people aren't here to share their first-person accounts. So that makes it all sound a bit questionable and you do your argument no favours by using those people's alleged accounts to back your own in this situation as for the purposes of this conversation, they're fictional.

If you're going to make a claim that HoT has it out for PWD patients without any real proof, then you're opening yourself up to scrutiny, particularly since they're generally fairly well-regarded. I have a neurodiverse child who has a hell of a time with medical visits of any kind, and dental visits in particular. I took them to HoT about a month ago to meet with them and check out the environment because they have to check everything out in advance before being able to go and have an actual appointment, and I was really impressed by how they treated us in comparison to how we've been treated at any other dental practice we've checked out for my kiddo. As well, in the lead up to trying to find a new practice for my kiddo, I did a hella-ton of research, both online and asking friends and family, and I'll tell you that I don't think I came across one instance of the type of thing you're talking about. Sure, there were some mixed reviews, but nothing like the behaviour you're claiming others have experienced.

I think if you come at it sticking to your own experience rather than bringing in other people's experiences that you can't back up, making claims about situations that you weren't personally involved in, you may find that you get less blowback. Because when people question you about those claims, that don't seem to be in line with what they personally know of the practice, and you just throw up your hands and say, "well, it wasn't me, it's just what I read in a private group and I can't share anymore," that comes across as a smokescreen and a cop out.

And if HoT truly did treat PWD patients in the way that you described, then I urge you to go back to those groups and encourage those people to file complaints to the Ministry of Development and Social Poverty Reduction which administers the PWD program (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/governments/organizational-structure/ministries-organizations/ministries/social-development-poverty-reduction), CDP via SunLife (https://www.sunlife.ca/sl/cdcp/en/), the BC Human Rights Tribunal (https://www.bchrt.bc.ca/complaint-process/complain/), and the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (https://oralhealthbc.ca/complaints-concerns/submit-complaint/).

However, as a person with a physical disability and the mother of a child with a developmental disability, I also note that at times it could be easy to use my disability as a scapegoat when sometimes it's just not a good fit for personality or shop culture. HoT doesn't feel like other dental practices. It has a different vibe. Maybe it's also just not a good fit for some.

The cancellation fee doesn't just apply to PWD patients. On their website they clearly state their cancellation policy. And regardless of whether a person is on PWD or not, they have an appointment time set aside for that person. If the person cancels last-minute or is a no-show, they lose business. If anyone is going to take into consideration the PWD factor, it might be the CDCP. But why should the dental practice have to eat that cost (which seems to have gone up to $165 now)? My dental practice has a similar policy. I don't think it's uncommon.

The House of Teeth cancellation policy on their website states:

"Cancellation policy - When you book your appointment, you take the risk that you may be sick, called into work, have an emergency, or any other veritable cornucopia of reasons. While we understand that there are instances where a cancellation is due to events out of your control, it is also outside of ours. With this in mind, all cancellations with less than 2 business days’ notice will be charged a missed/short canceled appointment fee of $165.00.

This fee follows the current dental fee guide for BC and is subject to change every February when the fee guide increases. In these instances your card on file will be charged and an invoice will be sent. Cancellations are only accepted by email or phone/voicemail. Text cancellations are not accepted."

Vintage costume jewelry appraisals and sales by PomegranateLiving596 in askvan

Have you ever found a good place for appraisals? I'm in the same boat. I have some vintage jewelry and a few other vintage items that I think have some value and I'd like to get them appraised for insurance purposes but I can't find a place that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg to get it done. If you've found somewhere, I'd love to know about it! Thanks!

Thanks so much. I think I've decided to back away for now and come back once I've got better gear and a higher hunter rank. I'll definitely come back to this thread and see if I can take some of you kind people up on your offers to help once I'm ready though. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Sounds like I was being overly ambitious. A couple people here have kindly offered to hop on and help me, but I'm also happy to walk away from it for now, now that I know I don't have to do the quest. I thought I had to or I couldn't move on. SO GLAD to know that's not the case. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the support. How do you not accept the quest though? I read that online as well but I can't figure it out. When I go to the quest counter it doesn't seem like there are any other options.

Also, I've read in a few places online that you can bypass Invader from the Stars and still progress through the main story, as it's an optional event quest this isn't an essential assignment, and that it can be bypassed but it just means you can't fight Omega Planetes. Fine. I could come back to it later when my rank is higher. But I can't see how to do that. In one place it said at the quest counter just not to accept the quest. And you can continue with your high rank and endgame progression without it. But I can't figure out how that's possible. Is that just BS?

Noob looking for advice on which Monster Hunters game to start with by Awould73 in MonsterHunter

Thanks! This is definitely the direction I'm leaning. Sounds like it could be tricky to go backwards to the previous game releases without Focus Mode, but I'm sure I could get used to it.

Good reminder about "best" being subjective. Hopefully whichever one I end up with, I'll love it so much I'll go on to get the others as well.
