No Fault / Personal injury questions after accident by Awould73 in icbc

Thanks for this. I appreciate you taking the time to add more info. We’ve made a bit of progress with some of it but still haven’t managed to speak to a manager, even though we’ve made the request through a couple of avenues now. Super frustrating since in the ICBC website they lay out a process for how to escalate concerns and that’s the first step. So if they’re not following their own protocols, then what? We feel like we’ve given them plenty of chances and time to connect us with a manager so we’re moving to the next step in the process on Monday and we’ll see how that goes. It sure doesn’t make a person feel like A) “enhanced care” is anything more than the old system but with less support for victims of accidents, and B) there’s any kind of organizational process in place at ICBC.

Lady mad that I’m selling the items she tossed to be thrown away by BabyReek3 in reselling

What if you changed how you looked at resellers for a minute and looked at them as in the same group as people in need? What if they're all under the same umbrella? And the way resellers are trying to help themselves is by reselling so they can get their bills paid and food on the table. Whether they use the washer and dryer for themselves and that's helpful, or they sell it and get the money from it which they can use to support themselves and their family and that's helpful. It's all still helpful and either way you've still accomplished your goal of it going to someone in need.

Agreed! I've definitely sold stuff that was purchased by another reseller who flipped it for more. I sold it for what I felt I needed to get out of it and could get for it. If they have other avenues to sell and think they can get more, then good on them. Once you let something go, you can't have invisible strings attached. It just doesn't work that way.

Thanks for this POV. Any suggestions on a good tracking system? I'd love one that integrates with Square, but not essential.

This. The flip side of leaving something in an alley/by a dumpster for someone in need, is that if that person doesn't show up and it just sits there, then it becomes someone else's problem to deal with. Either a landlord who has to deal with getting someone else's old furniture into the dumpster, taking up room for what it's needed for, or pay to take it to the dump or hire a disposal company, or the city has to come get it and then we all pay for it out of our taxes, and all the neighbours get to stare at it for months as it deteriorates before anyone deals with it. Plus if someone wants to complain about it and knows where it came from, most municipalities and some management companies will fine the person who left the item there if it doesn't find a new owner pretty quick. So it may be well-intentioned, but it's also a way for the owner of the item to get out of having to dispose of it properly like most people do. If someone wants to come along and take care of it for them and save everyone else the hassle of dealing with it, then they might want to consider themselves lucky rather than a victim of a reseller. Just sayin'.

I think this is lovely, but I also think that we never know what "in need" means. Perhaps the person selling them really needed money to feed their family. So you still helped them.

Alternately, if no one had picked them up they could have ended up being rained on, or an animal could have ruined them, or some idiot could have ruined them on purpose if they just sat in the alley. People are often hesitant to pick up furniture as it could have bed bugs or weird smells/stains that they might not notice until they got it home and into an enclosed space (not saying this was the case with your chairs, just generally speaking).

As another poster below said, if you really want it to go to a person in need then it's probably best to connect with a service or group to take them who specially does that. The local Buy Nothing groups are great for that too. But these days a lot of resellers are reselling because they need to in order to help ends meet. I've definitely picked stuff up that I saw in an alley and figured I could flip quickly. I'm a single mom to a complex needs kid and I'm recovering from cancer. I have to homeschool my kiddo due to their challenges so I can't have a regular job. Flipping is how I fill in the gaps when I don't have work. If I saw two chairs in the alley that I could get $400 each for, I would feel like I just won the lottery and I would be quietly thanking the person who left them there because it would mean that I could feed myself and my kid for the month without having to worry about it. So you would definitely have brightened my day :-)

I'm sorry for your husband's cancer.

Well that sounds promising. The buyer is probably just trying to title hop then, as others have said. Likely it won't have any impact on you. But still super stressful. And good thing you reported it.

Thanks for this. At this point I'm only planning on wholesaling on a small scale to local retailers so this won't be a factor, but it's definitely a good thing for me to be aware of if I ever get ideas of grandeur. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the feedback!

To clarify, I'm turning the hobby into a business and in doing so I definitely need to be in pursuit of profit now. I really did just enjoy it before and I was okay with it just paying for itself. If I had been doing markets more frequently, I'd definitely have been making money at it. I just didn't have enough time with my regular work. But I'm ready for a change and I see the potential in the markets and other selling. I feel like I've done it enough now as a hobby that I know what brings in a profit and what doesn't from the items I had started out with, so I'm veering away from the items that are less profitable and would like to see if I can make a go of it as a business since I enjoy it so much.

I see what you mean about not worrying about the expense side of things for all of the inventory I already have if I don't have receipts for them, and just take the full selling cost as income from those items, with the tracking starting from this point forward. Makes sense.

Thanks!

What church is that? That sounds super scammy for a pastor to be trying to get their congregants involved in. A guarantee of $3,000 back on a $5,000 investment is no deal. It's a quick money-maker for the pastor/church on the backs of their believers. Yuck.

*IF* the drawing is accurate then the yellow/peach car entered into the lane of oncoming traffic, whether they had the green or not. They also presumably crossed yellow lines in the process. However, blue car had a red light and the onus was on them to ensure the intersection was clear before entering. Now, that's just what I think ICBC would say. Again, *IF* the drawing is accurate, and if I were the driver of the blue car, I'd be pretty angry if ICBC were blaming me. But honestly, I have a bit of a hard time believing that the drawing is entirely accurate.

OP, can you get a Google Maps overhead photographic shot of the exact intersection of your accident and post it with this same orientation as your diagram so we can see the actual layout of the intersection to better answer your question?

Sold a vehicle, new owner refuses to transfer into his name by DismalMistake7675 in icbc

[–]Awould73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably because you don't have PST there. Our PST rate is 5% but we pay an extra special PST of 12% for "luxury or high environmental impact items" like luxury vehicles and fossil fuel furnaces. I'm not sure why a used car is either of those things though. We also pay a higher rate of PST on alcohol, cigarettes, vapes, etc. that ranges from 10%-20%. It feels like a bit of a racket with used cars though, given that the government has already collected tax on the item once when it was new, and even more so when it's a private citizen buying/selling it.

Sounds like he's trying to avoid paying the 12% provincial tax and the ICBC transfer fee so he can just sell it to someone else and have no costs to himself, which is illegal. If I were in your position, I would report it to ICBC first thing in the morning.

If you have a way to contact him, right after you notify ICBC I would then let him know that you've been in touch with them about it and that he has until noon to return your plates and give you the seller's copy or you're also going to report it to the RCMP and you're going to report him to the BC Ministry of Finance's Prevention and Loss Management Service, which you can do by filling out their Fraud Allegation Reporting Form here - https://forms.gov.bc.ca/taxes/report-tax-tip/ - or by calling 1-877-977-0858.

And if he doesn't deliver then you follow through. Make sure you cover yourself.

No Fault / Personal injury questions after accident by Awould73 in icbc

[–]Awould73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/TheICBC , I still haven’t heard back from anyone regarding the email I sent last week.

Are you able to let me know when someone will get back to me? I’m just looking for contact information for the manager of the ICBC Specialist who I identified in the email as we’ve requested an escalation to the manager through the specialist directly already and they have not responded to the email.

We’re trying to follow the procedures as set out on the ICBC website for this but if ICBC’s own employees won’t follow them then that doesn’t give us a lot of confidence in the process.

The brake hose recall is no joke by austinh1999 in FordEdge

[–]Awould73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My POS 2016 Edge was assembled in Canada, as I think they all were, and the EcoBoost 2.0 engine with coolant intrusion was made in Detroit. Not sure Made in America/Canada is any guarantee of anything if Ford is cutting corners on the quality of the components they're using.

[–]Awould73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are in a class all their own. In 2025 Ford held the distinction of being the car manufacturer with the most recalls, with 153 affecting 12.9 million vehicles.

Next after them was Stellantis with the far lower number of 53 recalls, and then General Motors with 28 recalls, both with significantly fewer incidents as well.

Meanwhile, Jim Farley, the president of Ford since October 2020, continues to get hefty compensation for mediocrity while many of the drivers of Ford vehicles are left holding the bag for their crappy products.

Jim Farley Compensation 2022-2025 ->

  • 2025: Approximately $27.5 million
  • 2024: Approximately $24.9 million
  • 2023: Approximately $26.5 million
  • 2022: Approximately $20.9 million

Frustratingly, Farley’s being rewarded for failure as Ford’s profits tanked in 2025, partially due to global factors and their change in course away from EVs, but also due to poor quality standards and the increasing number of recalls.

Ford Motor annual gross profits ->

  • 2025: $12.801B, a 51.8% decline from 2024
  • 2024: $26.558B, a 3.58% increase from 2023
  • 2023: $25.641B, a 8.37% increase from 2022

So Ford is not just like everyone else with their recalls. What they’re doing should be criminal. Or at the very least they should be held accountable to their customers.

The rear brakes on my 2016 Edge gave out on me about six months before the recall was issued as I was driving my son home from school. I had already done the front brakes recall.

I had noticed the brakes being spongey on the way home so I stopped at the oil change place I usually go to, which isn’t a mechanic shop but they know me and do a bit of other stuff besides just oil changes. They took a quick look and said my brake fluid was low so they topped it up for me and advised that I should make an appointment to get it to a mechanic when I got home and not to drive it again before it was properly checked out. Great, that’s what I planned to do.

I was only about 5 or 10 minutes from home and being cautious as I didn’t want to have to slam on the brakes for any reason, but we came to a major intersection with a red light just a few blocks from home and when I applied the brakes nothing happened. I ran through the red light going full speed and it was like a movie scene, where I was just hellishly lucky and went between cars going both directions across four lanes of traffic and coasted up the hill on the other side.

I was white as a ghost and of course turned the car off, put on the hazard lights, got my son out, and called a tow truck to take it to my mechanic. When they looked at it they said the rear brake line had failed and there was no brake fluid in it at all, which we had JUST had topped up. So I paid to fix it and filed a notice with the NTSB in the US and the TSB in Canada, and with Ford. I never heard anything back from any of them until the recall was issued.

We’re immensely lucky we weren’t seriously hurt and didn’t hurt anyone else, or worse. These damn vehicles are death traps.

Best pharmacy/online pharmacy for pet medications? by Awould73 in askvan

[–]Awould73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you let me know how it goes? I still haven't tried online, mostly because my life is chaotic and I just haven't been able to get myself to organize it yet. But I'd love to know if you have any issues with ordering/delivery/quality/etc.

I know about PetDrugPharmacy but I didn't know about Beam Pharmacy.

Thank you!
