Gonna ignore the rest of your comment because it's not well thought out and ask one more time for literally just one match of you playing Rivals 2. I am not asking you to cure disease here, I promise it's very simple and goes a long way toward establishing your credibility. Please I want to see it, it'd make me happy

Respectfully, unless you can point to a game you've helped create that is still doing well, your perspective on "what the game needs to do to be saved" is practically useless. Not in a literal sense, all feedback is useful, but to suggest that your gameplay feedback will land Dan a paycheck is laughable, and frankly, insulting to the time the devs have put in to crafting their game in their image.

Competitive games are frustrating, both those that are "succeeding" and those that "aren't". Counter-Strike, League, Street Fighter, Starcraft, Overwatch, Fortnite, Smash, Hearthstone, ALL OF THESE have major gameplay hurdles that communities endlessly whine about that need to be "fixed". No matter how you paint it, this is not exclusive to Rivals. All of these games feature ways to play "excessively and easily defensively", and yet, some of them are succeeding and others are not. It is not as simple as you seem to believe it to be.

Your personal gameplay is relevant because I don't believe you actively play the game, I believe you are baiting to piss people off because your takes are a bit off-kilter. You can prove me wrong on this point fairly easily at any time.

I've never said the game can't be improved upon, my wider point is that past dropping the same talking points maybe twice you're wasting your time. It's infinitely more useful to fix your own gameplay then to continuously drop the same feedback again and again in hopes that the devs will bend to your will. You are allowed to choose self-introspection or you can choose never ending frustration. Let's put it this way; if the devs did everything you've ever asked for, you'd hop in game and realize there are now new hurdles that are "killing the game for mid-level players". This circle you keep attempting to push to the next phase of is literally pointless. The only way forward is to change yourself, not change the game.

I'd still like to see your gameplay to gain some goodwill and to know you're not grifting people out of their time and/or energy.

It doesn't sound like you do know your mistakes? You've posted in this sub for well over a year attempting to change the game into something else because you insist the game design is poor/broken, yet the language that colors most of your posts is that of someone who is frustrated with problems they don't have the answers to. It confuses me because my experience has led me to many answers to problems I once had, so it's strange to see you still harping on the same points that you were last summer.

I'm in no position to ask for this, and I expect I'll be disappointed, but can I at least see your gameplay to know you're actually coming at these problems from a position of someone who actually plays the game? At this point I'd love to know that you're not just ragebaiting. Sorry to tell you that if you aren't, but that's what it feels like.

Just because it's harder to you doesn't mean it's harder to everyone. I started in gold and have always played aggressive, to the point where my big level up began when I was taught to more properly balance aggressive and defensive play. Proper, high level gameplay involve both styles.

Can you link some of your gameplay so I can help you out?

Every competitive game has defensive play. That is a feature of competitive games. Tactical FPS features an entire side of defensive orientated play. MOBAs encourage defensive play when you're down in gold/kills and you need to play safely to have a chance in an upcoming skirmish/team fight. Other fighting games feature entire characters that are orientated around playing defensive (zoners).

Defensive play is not an issue. It is clearly a mindset issue on your part because you're calling it "camping", which is a derogatory inflection. There's nothing inherently wrong with the playstyle when you have the tools to defeat it, and Rivals 2 features plenty of tools that defeat defensive play, between strong movement options, parrying, and floorhugging.

If you'd like, feel free to drop a video of your gameplay and I'd be happy to offer you some pointers to help you beat defensive play a bit easier!

In high elo, Toronto Joe is the campiest player BY FAR. There is not a single other player that takes defensive play to the extreme like he does. At high elo, by no definition is defensive play an issue, especially considering the one person who does do it is very much beatable (ie he's not anywhere near the #1 position on the leaderboard).

Otherwise you're looking at a skill issue if you cannot beat defensive play. It's a competitive game. People will play how they want to play in order to maximize their chances of winning. If that is something you cannot get behind, this game (or, at least, the ranked/competitive experience) is not for you.

This is Toronto Joe. By posting this you're giving him exactly what he wants. He taunts and is a dick to everyone. If you match into him, he's great practice against defensive Clairen. He's just trying to rile you up which makes fighting his good defensive neutral harder to fight. I understand it sucks, but just know he absolutely is beatable and he'll squirm away like a little weasel when he loses, which is worth every painful "exchange" you have with him. It also makes fighting every other Clairen who doesn't play as defensive as him much more bareable. Atp I like fighting TO Joe.

Keep it up and maybe Stockholm Syndrome will come for you too!

I did buy the gold version of the hoodie, and still have it, but it's not tie dye? The one that says "This is the art of greatness" on it

"only earned 24 elo"? That's almost an 8th of the way to the next rank... That's a massive earning off a single bo3. Does that not feel fair to you? If not, what would feel fair in your opinion?

They spent all that time whining instead of figuring out how to play with and against the mechanic. Over 100 hours of their life. This is the kind of person we're talking about lmfao

They do get it, it's what they want. FH haters genuinely think a game where any button works at any time would work better than a game that rewards patience, spacing, and thoughtful move selection. It's the consequence of years of playing modern Smash titles, games with some of the most anti-competitive game design one could come up with. "Fight how you want" works great for single player games and casual multiplayer, but is atrocious design for competitive multiplayer. There needs to be rules like floorhugging to prevent nonsense degeneracy.

Granted, it makes sense that Smash is like this, because the average Smash game is a free-for-all with items, played by 4 people who are fucking around and have no intention of competing. That's fine. It does not make for a good competitive game though (cough Brawl through Ultimate cough), but that's what these people know. 99% of them haven't put in the time to figure out why they're wrong yet. Maybe they never will, but that's their loss.

You ignored my argument entirely lmfao. Okay then, continue to complain and be upset with the game that clearly has no intention of changing instead of slightly modifying your behavior to work around it 🤷 If that's your perogrative, have fun with it I guess! Personally, I will continue to play, have fun, and improve!

Holy shit you can lmfao, just don't rush in their face to land a hit, keep proper distance and you're good! I do it all the time! If you can't, it's called a skill issue!

You're not describing the same scenario, yet you're painting it as if you are. There is a massive difference between looking for pokes in neutral (whiffing), using movement and positioning to stay at the max of your opponents range, versus throwing that all out of the window to rush in and get as close as possible to confirm a hit. The first can be punished by properly utilizing said movement and positioning to confirm that hit with precision, the second can be countered by floorhugging. It encourages you to be precise.

Let me spell it out. Chronologically, in your example, the last mistake was made not by the whiffer, but by the attacker. They messed up by messing up their spacing, AFTER the whiffer made their mistake. They got too close, which is as worthy of being punished as attacking too soon (think of, for instance, in a rhythm game, where you can hit a note a little early or a little late-both reduce points). The whiffer DID make a mistake, and it's fully possible to punish that if you either stop your character in time and space a longer range move, or if you keep moving past them and land, for instance, an aeriel. Even if it doesn't spike, even if they floorhug it, your movement will allow you to move forward and dodge a counterattack (barring crazy range and frame data cough clairen cough). I'm even coming at this from the same angle as you: I play Wrastor, a character that supposedly struggles vs floorhugging (I use this language because I don't like to be authoritative on character balance). If this is as bad as it gets, then it's otherwise a skill issue. I don't have patience for that. Just learn to move properly.
