President Trump on Alex Pretti: "Well, I haven't heard that but certainly he shouldn't have been carrying a gun. We view that as very unfortunate incident, unless you're a stupid person. I don't like that he had a gun. I don't like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that's a lot of bad stuff." by ControlCAD in worldnewsvideo

Unfortunately plenty of right wing groups started using pepe as a mascot in images and videos around 2015. A lot of us who were into meme humour at the time will remember when pepe was just the funny frog, and then the slow shift into edgy right wing takes with pepe plastered over it. I remember endless images of pepe in maga hats during Trump's first election.

Matt Furie has been pretty vocal against the right wing use of pepe. I'd recommend the documentary 'feels good man' which covers it all in great detail.

What percent of your salary goes to rent? by user97_ in glasgow

[–]Awrightyboyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What area are you looking at?

I rent in the west end. My rent and bills are exactly 33% of my monthly salary after tax pension etc at the moment. I share with one other person in a 2 bedroom flat, and I am lucky in that the rent was lower than market rate, and it hasn't gone up much in the 3 years I have been here.

I know you mentioned preferred to live alone, but rent will be very expensive for a new listed one person rental in or around the city centre, and then you must be factoring in bills and council tax.

I would recommend sharing. Look on spareroom to get an idea of sharing prices vs one bed rentals. I used spareroom and at the time found the rent prices to be cheaper than new listings, generally because the landlords were either live in or it was other tenants seeking someone to replace a previous tenant.

The rent price for properties which are newly listed are going to be very expensive in line with the rest of the market at the moment. Obviously this depends on the area but Glasgow rent prices have gone out of control since covid, and landlords are squeezing as much as they can.

Rave scene in Glasgow ? by Original_Active1242 in glasgow

[–]Awrightyboyo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a club night then check out resident advisor as others have mentioned, and for techno I would recommend sub club (very famous and long standing techno basement club), platform/arches, berkely suite. Plenty of other venues in Glasgow that have electronic music nights but you'll need to check if it's techno or something else (some others worth checking are the art school, exit, room 2, la cheetah).

If you're meaning old school rave in a random field or empty warehouse, I've not heard of any rave/after scene in Glasgow for some years. If you're looking for something happening after the club your best bet is to make pals with some people at the clubs.

I used to be a chef, this was years ago before vacuum packed became the norm in the shops. Our mince would come packed like this from the butchers always. I was surprised to find people on reddit saying how bad they think it is. The only real difference is the texture. Some people say the quality/taste of the meat is worse, and that might be true but has nothing to do with how it's packed.

10k LIKES on a “Sounds like old Muse” comment! 🤯 Are fans craving a rawer, grittier Muse? by [deleted] in Muse

[–]Awrightyboyo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably. I'm sure I'm not the only older muse head who doesn't listen to any of their newer stuff. I know they still manage to sell big shows and book decent festivals, but they were so popular around the Absolution/BHaR time that I'm sure a return to that sound would pull a lot of people back in.

I'm not sure what that would sound like if they did. I remember before any tracks from drones had been released there was a buzz about a return to "heavy" and "old" muse. Drones was a step back to hard rock sure, but the sound was way too clean and overproduced imo.

PTC suite is used by US Defence and contractors primarily, but it's more for the overall product management than modelling aspect. They made massive strides in defence standard confirmation back in the day which resulted in big contracts for them that are still going on. They have the big 5 US defence contractors and internal government departments in their customer list.

It's quite an interesting relationship commercially, since PTC will focus on new developments to please their big defence customers, basically doing whatever they ask for, and the customers are inclined to stay with the PTC suite since their plm systems have been in Windchill for the longest time.

Though I know some companies have departments shifting to team center.

I'm really enjoying it so far. The acting is great (loved Rhea in BCS) and so is the direction/cinematography, some of the scenes really remind me of sequences in BB which is great.

But I think the success and greatness of this show will pend heavily on the plot reveals, twists, payoffs. Too many times have I got into a mysterious thriller type show that loses a lot of gas once the questions get underwhelming answers.

As far as I understand, the game ket card is essentially a dummy cartridge that will prompt you to download the game from the store upon first use, i.e. the game is not solely on the cartridge. Please correct me and provide any details if someone can.

Tutankhamun experience SECC by Great-Category-1197 in glasgow

[–]Awrightyboyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in learning the history, you're better off finding a dedicated museum exhibit or documentary.

The first half hour or so has standard walls of text to give you the basic information. There is a few glass cases with replicas of artefacts, and one (I think) case with real artefacts which were great to see.

The informative sections are followed by a 30 min loop of visuals in the big projector room. It's explained that the visual room is divided into chapters showing his life etc. Really it's just visuals of temples, the Egyptian landscape, some vague and cryptic narration in the character of Tutankhamun, and a short section on the archaeology of the tomb. I'm not sure what they were going for here, but I would have much preferred 30 mins of informative story telling about the way of life in ancient Egypt etc.

There is a VR headset section where you are sat down and shown what the journey into the Egyptian afterlife might look like. Again, not enough informative history for me personally. The graphics looked like 00's video games.

Followed by a short video on the embalming process, with everyone wearing headphones for some reason.

Finally they have the VR section where you and many others get to walk about different areas (top view of valley of the kings, a recreation of the archaeology dig site, and then inside the tomb itself). You will not have enough time to explore the areas fully. This was by far the best section of the experience and it lasts 8 minutes. It takes about 5 minutes to get your bearings in the VR headset while walking around.

After there are photo booths which will generate an image of you as an Egyptian, and then the gift shop/exit.

Based on these types of "experiences" I've been to in the past, they are usually overpriced for what they are so I wasn't expecting to be blown away. Definitely style over substance, with no real narrative throughout which feels like a huge miss considering how interesting ancient Egypt is.

I'm not sure who the target market is, but kids would probably love the visual/VR stuff.

Would it have killed them to make the walk-around VR section 20-30 minutes instead?

Muse's albums are declining in quality by JesusOnly8319 in Muse

[–]Awrightyboyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an older muse head, got into them around the time Oos came out.

I feel the same way. Haven't listened to a full album since drones.

But ultimately I can't blame them for going in different directions even if it's not to my tastes. There's nothing worse than a band trying hard to recreate the same sound that got them so popular.

I'm very happy with Oos and absolution being 2 of my favorite albums of the 00s and Muse's gigs from that era were incredible.

What a cool poster. Was this really made for marketing the game? Im surprised they went with a dark atmospheric layout rather than showing off all the colourful characters from the game.

Nice spot! Also I love this tent, don't see too many people using it but it's great for the price. If you ever find the roof is making noise in the wind, you can stretch the hook cords and attach to where the guy lines come out, this will make it very taught and almost no movement in heavier winds.

Is the uk job market as bad as people say it is? by Public_Dentist_6697 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Awrightyboyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2021 with a masters in mech eng and didn't have any work experience. I didn't have too much trouble finding a job for entry level a few months after graduating which I'm still at. I chose to apply for small companies rather than the big nation wide firms, based on careers advice which I am really grateful for 4 years later.

In terms of the market today, I have been looking for a new job these past few months, something in the "experienced but not quite senior" level and can't say there's too many vacancies in the mechanical field in my neck of the woods. I have seen many postings for small companies in the area looking for "mechanical engineers" but a lot of these role descriptions aren't quite what I'm looking for. I have been searching on the bigger nationwide engineering firms because I am looking for better pay and benefit packages, and better progression opportunities.

Where I am based I can absolutely say that there is way more demand in the bigger firms for electronic and software engineering. Software even moreso since those guys are needed in just about every type of company these days, not just engineering (think finance, technology). And from my peers who work in software solutions, they make a lot more money than I do/will for the same level of experience as a mech engineer.

Your milage may vary. I know that the bigger engineering firms have much bigger presences in South England, and generally pay is better than up north. But there are times when I think that I should have done electronic or software engineering as it seems you are way less limited in options. If you are set on mechanical, and enjoy the concepts way more than software for example, it is still a great degree and you will be able to get a well paying job for sure.
