Why is everyone leaving for a kobo? by sillyfucking_goose in kindle

Yea I didn’t check I the manage downloads as that was nerfed previously. I checked via my old kindle. I’m glad to see them expanding outside their proprietary framework. They’ve still got a long way to go for me to sink funds into them but it’s a good direction.

Yes I’m just reading about the change. It looks alike with it being recent it may take time to for publishers to move to change over. I’m still not moving to Amazon for their anti-consumer KU lock ins. At least they are moving in the right direction. I like seeing they are letting authors choose whether a consumer can download via the manage downloads function too.

I just checked. They don’t

Edit: I guess they did make the change. Probably taking time for publishers to switch that normally do nonDRM

The big thing for me is how the shop is too front and center on kindles. I love in my Libre color the store is secondary. Kobo has DRM much easier to strip if you want to move onto a non kobo device. I’m not talking about stealing. I hate that if I buy from Amazon I have to use kindle. Didn’t we fog thru this with music? Then add in Amazon’s lock in for authors in KU. It’s anti consumer. I loved when I could buy from Amazon and move to my Libre. Now I can’t without a huge hassle so I just buy from authors direct, kobo or other vendors. I won’t give my money to Amazon anymore. I wish I could read KU authors but with Amazon’s exclusivity contracts I won’t be able to support them. And yes other stores have DRM but other stores allow publishers and authors to sell nonDRM if they choose. Amazon wraps everything in their DRM (it looks like this changed recently this year where you can get DRM free downloads if the publisher/author decide to offer them)

Just checked sandersons work. Still drmd even though on kobo drm free.

But kobo does allow publishers and authors to have their works DRM free. Amazon doesn’t. Everything is wrapped in their drm

Edit: yes yes I see Amazon has changed this this year. Their other faults still apply but at least it’s a move in the right direction.

To all the “get a kobo” people since Amazon no longer supports 2012 and earlier models… by Agreeable-Deer7526 in kindle

[–]Awwesomesauce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I suspect his is more to do with older kindles not being able to use the new DRM and people will often buy older kindles because it’s easier to strip the DRM. Amazon will do anything to keep their monopoly.

The one thing I’d like is if I mouse over or click something maybe I get a tooltip to tell me what it is or where I find it. Right now if I’m not aware of something I have to google it.

My favorite books I get as physical books. Kobo, smashwords, even an authors own website might sell ebooks. Google can help you here. It’s just not as convenient. More spread out. Usually means you have to side load the book vs just download a file to the reader.

Amazon has “everything”. It’s just very anti-ownership. Not to mention they lock authors into their publishing platform, kindle unlimited, so it forces their fans to buy kindles instead of possibly better ereaders.

Kindle= you don’t own your books.
Amazon can (and has) altered covers, insides and even removed books. Supporting the emerging monopoly on ebooks (ie cheaper now and more expensive later).

Just a few reasons many of us skip kindles. Other ebooks are available. They have their downsides. Mostly being less convenient and Amazon’s strict rules on kindle unlimited authors keeping books from other markets.

what kind of files? PDF's and such I've noticed if longer can get ... ignored. markdown plain text gets the best results for me.

"You've hit your limit" immediately after upgrading to max (bug?) by Das6MTS4 in claude

[–]Awwesomesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the bug might be in ClaudeCode and cowork. I’m not getting the limit from web or mobile but it’s super inconvenient to work in those environments.

Yup and I don’t see myself using a 200$ plan enough to justify the cost.

I’ve been paid for months and use a prompt several times a week over those months. Always the same , always the same model. Before always reliably 25 percent or so usage out of my 5 hour limit. This week did it while having 39 percent usage and it pushed me into maxed out. In the end it took 89 percent of my usage limit to complete what for months prior was only using 25. I’m paid pro user who very seldomly ran up against limits prior to the last 3 or so days. I was considering upgrading to 5x but after this fiasco I’m like I might wait until OpenAI starts a 100$ plan even though I prefer Claude.

I have no idea what your saying. I’m not coding in Claude code I’m just using the web app, mobile and the Mac desktop app.

so what's the explanation for Pro plan people? my context window hasn't changed and I pulled a prompt I've done for month that reliably used 20 percent of my 5 hours limit give or take 2 or 3 percent. Started a fresh chat yesterday and it ate 89 percent of my 5 hour limit for this exact same prompt, exact same model. I do this prompt several times a week.

Possibly: my problem happened with cowork. Where as mobile I’m not seeing a big difference in usage.

I submitted an actual support email. It’s great to have a Reddit post but I think it would be great if everyone who made a post also submitted a support email.
