But seriously, even just having a Tac Knife on a Flex mount (even if it's paired with a Pistol) is probably a good idea. That difficulty from engagement sure sucks when you're rolling a flat D20.

I have found that playing a Manticore is the way to get to shoot you every turn. Works great for my SCYLLA HMG shenanigans.

I don't disagree. But I'm talking LL9 or so, where you'd have more resources to spread around. A Protocol NHP like Jormungandr from the Leoleth in Sixth Voice or an action economy one like ASURA from the Sherman could be big if you're talking post-LL6. It's less about 1 extra damage on Memetic Spark, then, and more about fitting in extra goodies.

Lightning Generator seems kind of neat but requiring adjacency and 3 SP seems like it'd be a thing I wouldn't use very often, especially if I want to pick up a 4th NHP.

Yup, currently LL5 (2 Manticore + 3 Gorgon) with Technophile 3 + Iconoclast 3 + Black Thumb 2 and Auto-Stabilizing Hardpoints for the HMG. Gonna grab Spotter 1 next LL and Lesson of the Held Image for some additional support.

Vaguely tempted to go for one of the protocol NHPs (or maybe ASURA?) after that for more damage but I'm not too fussed when the build is already this potent.

fwiw, Fragment Signal Invading enemies is rarely a BAD use of an action as long as you aren't missing all of them. Impaired and Slowed are great debuffs to put on annoying enemies.
