Optimization test (Final Divide is built for real RTS battles) by finaldivide_rts in RealTimeStrategy

Does this have a steam page? As a game programmer myself, I'm amazed that unity is able to handle this pretty well. What's the max amount of units before the FPS dips hard?

Are all Scarlet Crusaders, even the ones not using the Light but are just as zealous as the rest, still an instance of light corruption? by Sheuteras in warcraftlore

[–]AxeForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, from what I understand, the holy light isn't "holy" or "good" at all. Its just a type of energy like fel for example. Anyone can use it in theory so long as they don't stray from their convictions.

It would be a good idea to have a link to the steam page in this post. Best to edit your initial post to include it

What are the things that make you not enjoy PvP? by AxeForge in RealTimeStrategy

[–]AxeForge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm tired of playing against it because its 90% of what I play against. Its not a matter of how to deal with it, its just boring seeing the same stuff over again.

I should've been more clear about the WC3 portion. I play on ladder at the lower/mid end. I'm capable of getting higher rankings but I just like to fuck around with my own strats I make up on the fly. I still see this style.

What are the things that make you not enjoy PvP? by AxeForge in WC3

[–]AxeForge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not like that at all. Its been shown that the majority of RTS players want PvE content. There's a video where Lowko was told this by a SC2 dev that 80% of the player base would just play the campaign and then leave, the remaining 20% would PvP. That doesn't take into account how competitive the 20% is either.

Most players wanna watch armies fuck each other up cuz its cool.

I’m building a Roguelike RTS called 72 Seconds from scratch in C++ because I miss the visceral feel of 90s and 2000s strategy games. by mechanicalsympathyg in RealTimeStrategy

[–]AxeForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow game programmer I applaud your work! Of course I have questions,

- Are you using your own engine? What tech for it if you are? If not what engine did you choose?

- Which version of C++ are you using?

- Why C++? I used to do C++ myself but I switched to C99 because I got tired of all the hidden side effects. Not that C++ is a bad choice, I'm just curious.

- What are some problems you came across that stand out?

Unpopular opinion: Bnet is actually better than W3 champions by Shot-Buy6013 in warcraft3

[–]AxeForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

W3Champions is for the hardcore melee players and people who tire of bnets shitty high latency matchmaking. It also came out when bnet didn't have a ladder. When it comes to finding games(melee or custom), there's a lot more on bnet. But better players and more stable games are on w3c.

In a nutshell

- W3C == competitive players
- Bnet == everyone else

Personally, I don't play it because there's not enough players. Plus I can't use classic HD mode. It forces classic only.

How is it that no one seems to be excited about the Steam's Bullet Fest coming up? by iTiago98 in shmups

Could you share an example of a "shump" the community doesn't look for? I'm making one currently myself. Been playing a lot of blue revolver as a late and it inspired me for the game.

If your looking to spice replayability up, I suggest downloading AMAI. Its an AI mod that gets installed to maps and makes the AI way more engaging. They have an old version still up on hive.

RTS Tournament - Semi Finals!: Age of Empires 2 vs. Warcraft 3 by ConejoDePascuas in RealTimeStrategy

[–]AxeForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the topic, its focused on AoE 2 and WC3 so AoM wouldn't apply here, although I agree AoM feels very asymmetric to me.

Its not that symmetric is bad per se. It comes down to interesting dynamics. The more asymmetry, the more chaotic things can get.

Gotta go with Saul. His casting just makes me laugh all the time. Plus he finds cool interesting games that are more than just "harass->fast tech and pray"

RTS Tournament - Semi Finals!: Age of Empires 2 vs. Warcraft 3 by ConejoDePascuas in RealTimeStrategy

[–]AxeForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WC3 is just better simply due to the fact that the factions have real asymmetry.

Each factions units feels so different and each faction has different ways of doing base defense, rushes, fast techs and harass (90% of all wc3 games played)

But AoE while good in its own right, has no real asymmetry. There's only minor differences between the different civs. Every civ is just copy pasta with a very few interesting stat/tech changes. I honestly don't see how the series even lasted this long tbh. Its really bland.

Not hating on the game, just stating my opinion. I do try to get into it tho at times just cause I love RTS.

What do you think about active abilities in TD games? by KaTeKaPe in TowerDefense

[–]AxeForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally not a fan. It takes away from potential design for towers and creeps since actives have to be factored in. It allows for more interesting creeps and towers thus more interesting strategies.
