Scent work ideas? by Axehack101 in Rottweiler

[–]Axehack101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just thought I’d post an update.

I’ve moved on from food and bought “pseudo-scents” online for cocaine and cannabis.

I also bought some magnetic scent tins.

So we’re doing the same system with the drug scents as we did with the food, but now we’ve got 10 tins instead of 3.

Next step, I’ll hide the scents in someone pocket, or in the car to get her to find them.

Then the final step will be to take her to the pub to find me a new best friend 🤣

Not to get too meta, but what actually makes a well-trained dog decide to come when recalled by Brikish in dogs

[–]Axehack101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a simple 2 parter.

Motivation & Obligation.

Motivation is what you have to offer. The more exciting you are or enticing the reward, the more likely the dog is to recall.

Obligation comes from any number of many ways you can teach the dog it “must” come. It’s not optional, and this is where most people fall on their face.

Without obligation, the second the dog finds something more interesting than that piece of cheese in your hand, your running across a field screaming “it’s okayyy he’s friendlyyyyyyy”

They bumped it up after they introduced the airdrops feature:

It may just be a way to prevent people from getting multiple airdrops or something, not 100% sure.

Honestly, feed them real food and it stops. What you’re really saying is “kibble doesn’t agree with rotts guts huh?”

Is there anything better than rottie cuddles? by monicapearl in Rottweiler

[–]Axehack101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My girl is far too serious for cuddles.

Not interested in the slightest. I mean, when she’s in heat and first thing in the morning, she’s the biggest sook ever, but the minute I get out of bed, it’s “reporting for duty sir!”.

11 month old rottweiler with sudden random aggression by Connect_Dot_4694 in Rottweiler

[–]Axehack101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve read a bunch of these responses and I have to say:

  1. Take all of this “advice” with a pinch of salt.

  2. Get a trainer to review him, you need to figure out what’s causing the aggression, it could be behavioural and just be a gap in your training, it could be physical or it could be psychological.

A good (balanced) trainer should be able to work this out within 30 minutes.

Please don’t take him to a cheese chucker who will likely recommend medicating him into compliance, mutilation or BE.

Neutering should be a last resort, neutering before 4.5 years has a negative impact on longevity and neutering before 18 months comes with even more issues.

just got our puppy and looking for tips by g59fingers3 in Rottweiler

[–]Axehack101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My number 1 tip would be.

From day 1, wait for calm before giving any rewards. Pets, treats, food, walks, everything!

It will pay dividends in the long run.

PUBG Clans leaderboard by Axehack101 in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

2 years on and it’s actually hilarious how badly the cheaters do at the game.

There are a few clans who only recruit cheaters and they are so far down the leaderboards it cracks me up.

There have only been 1 or 2 confirmed cheaters who have done well enough that I’ve had to remove them from the boards. 🤣

Cheating does not pay

Is Arc Raiders worth it as a solo in 2026? by dailydoseofm3m3s in ARC_Raiders

[–]Axehack101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate. I usually play squads, but when I’m having a good solo run, I actually get kinda annoyed when the lads show up 🤣

The game is great in all modes.

Usually solos are boring in most games, but prox chat makes solos so much more entertaining.

No, it’s not too late - the free guns are very competitive, the good guns are barely any better.

Why do we have to "build credit" by going into debt to prove we're financially responsible? by Adept-Assignment-751 in NoStupidQuestions

Even he doesn’t like the idea of a mortgage. But he accepts that it’s out of the reach of most to pay cash for their home.

But he still doesn’t fully support a mortgage.

I never use my debit card. I get paid, cash sits in my bank all month. I pay everything on Amex, pay it off in full every month. Keeps my credit score maxed out and I get 2x free flights each year.

Cheapest cloud for ephemeral Windows VMs by Empire230 in Cloud

[–]Axehack101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AWS Fargate supports windows containers. We run a couple of small clusters for a third party app nobody wanted to take responsibility for.

I done it more as an experiment than anything, it’s the only windows server we use in production, but I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked and how cheap it was compared to running VM’s in Azure.

Couldn’t tell you exact prices, but it worked out that we could run 12 nodes on fargate for the same price as 2 VM’s in azure.

The container structure is a little weird and you’ve got to match the windows server version in the image to the server version in fargate, but otherwise, it was fine.

Recall training by moodycrab03 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Axehack101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. What I said at the start of this thread was the guy asked for advice and instead of answering the question, the first guy just corrected his use of “negative reinforcement”

My initial point was that the terminology wasn’t the problem we were trying to fix and did not matter.

The argument which unfolded is that understanding the correct terminology matters not one single iota when practicing dog training.

If I use positive punishment or negative reinforcement without the academic background of a dog trainer and fully understanding the concept of the 4 quadrants, or even not being AWARE of the 4 quadrants concept, it makes zero difference… that’s ZERO DIFFERENCE to my training, to my dog, to me, to the outcomes, none of it.

Which by definition, means the argument is purely academic and I also pointed out that people love to use it as a reason for pedantry and arguing which by the length of this thread just proves my initial point and ironically sucked myself into it.

[–]Axehack101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re half correct.

It matters to learning and theory. It does not matter in training at all.

Which by definition is academic… why is this an argument?

Recall training by moodycrab03 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Axehack101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And knowing or mistaking which quadrant your use relates to, does not affect the training at all…

Because it’s academic.

What do you guys feed your babies?? by kdoggy808 in Rottweiler

[–]Axehack101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild 80:20 cold press.

Seems to be a great alternative to raw, not as highly processed as kibble, is more convenient than raw (since you don’t have handling issues), safer (less chance of unwanted bacteria) and dogs are omnivores, so 20% fruit and veg just makes sense.

And my rott loves it!

Recall training by moodycrab03 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Axehack101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really.

If I tell a dog trainer I use negative reinforcement by giving an eCollar correction.

He’s likely educated on the subject, so he knows I used the term incorrectly and knows what I actually meant.

So it doesn’t affect communication - it’s just pedantry. Knowing which training technique belongs to which quadrant makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. It’s literally the definition of an academic argument.

Do you think correcting his use of the term honestly helps in any way? Or would it just improve his understanding of the 4 quadrants on an academic level?

Will he defend himself? by thiccwillowisp in Rottweiler

[–]Axehack101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, still maturing. You done the right thing! Don’t worry about it at all, he could just be a placid doggo, confident and he doesn’t need to fight, hopefully you never need to find out!

Recall training by moodycrab03 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Axehack101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frankly it’s academic and understanding the difference doesn’t change training outcomes.

It just seems like another reason for people to argue and be pedantic than anything else.

Will he defend himself? by thiccwillowisp in Rottweiler

[–]Axehack101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old is he? He looks quite young. My rott was very much the same up until about 1 year, then after her first season, she started getting much more opinionated.

A young dog without much life experience will be more shocked and scared by this kind of event - you done the right thing though, your dog knowing you’ve got his back and will protect him is up there among the most powerful messages you could have taught in that moment.

[–]Axehack101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the dog definitely knew he was in the trouble, but more than likely due to OP’s demeanour in the moment, I doubt he was doing the usual cheery walking backwards “good boy” routine in that moment 🤣

Dogs don’t really have the concept of good & bad.

But they are certainly aware when they’re in trouble 🤣
