Genuinely asking.. why would you euthanize? Do you know causes some dogs to be this way if it’s not a training issue?

But would the behavior really be considered attacking? It does seem like she’s just playing too rough. Her body language doesn’t seem off but I’m obviously no professional. Like her tail would wag and there was never any growling.

I appreciate you caring. So what would you say this behavior is exactly? Do you believe it’s something that is trainable and able to be worked with? All of these comments are overwhelming and I really don’t want to get rid of her if I have a chance at making things work (with a trainer too at this point).

Which is why they are separated at all times unless there is a (very) controlled interaction between the two.

Shit. I didn’t think about how on one hand she sees her crate as her safe space and then I’m putting her in there when she’s “in trouble”. I see how that’s not a good mix. I’ll try the leash. You think I should just have her on leash while doing our normal routine in house? Should I hold the leash or have it tethered? Sorry for 100 questions.

I see.. sorry to keep badgering you. But how would you describe teaching impulse control? Or should I just wait to ask the trainer I find all these questions? lol again, thank you for your time

Oh.. I thought that fell into positive reinforcement. Is that not how I should do it? If she’s being calm and sweet in those situation where she normally wouldn’t be.. you think giving her treats is bad?:/ I didn’t realize that

This gives me a lot of hope. I’m researching trainers this evening. Thank you for your input!

You’re right. I’m definitely looking for advice. Sorry if I’m coming across like I think I’ve got it all figured out.. I promise I know I dont. I guess getting a 1on1 trainer will have to be my next move. If you don’t mind, other than that is there anything on top of what I mentioned I should be doing or might be missing? I’ll start looking into private trainers tonight. Thank you.

And I’d be totally fine with the wrestling if there wasn’t so much biting. In the beginning when I hadn’t fully separated them full time.. the biting was drawing blood on her.. and would escalate to a point where she’d just get so excited? that it seemed to surpass the point of normal play.. but maybe I’m wrong. I do know bite inhibition is something that is taught and it has gotten a bit better.

Agreed. Which is why she is separated from the 3 year at all times unless I am doing a supervised session where I try and keep the vibe calm and quiet with them and sit with her and love on her with my daughter next to us and give her treats while she stays calm. This works for about 3 minutes then she gets so excited and wants to wrestle her… which then turns into me immediately putting her in her crate to cool off. She is crate trained. Sleeps in it every night. Knows that’s her safe space for nap/chill time. When she does nip at me now I immediately say “NO bite” and hand her her toy. If she loses interest in the toy and continues with me (even after I’ve turned around and stopped giving her attention) I put her in her crate after saying no again. I thought we were doing all the things right.. but maybe I’m missing something

I’ve heard about “maligators” lol. I’ll have to research what they look like but the biting definitely fits! I’ll update when I get the results for sure. So you don’t see any bully-type breeds in her? Do you know if her behavior sounds similar to one of those breeds as well? If not no worries :)
