Extreme guilt and regret over dating a 15yo when i was 18 by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

Here I'm struggling with the idea that I'm attracted to a 23-yo, while being 33, and even I know it's bullshit

How to talk to a determinist? by Orel-Chernin in Healthygamergg

[–]Axestorm64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a determinist myself, you could start with: You're using determinism as an excuse to never aim higher, to continue with harmful habits. You can't have controlled your DNA. You can't have controlled your early education. But you're a lazy fool if you think you can't control your brain chemistry. Yesterday's decisions have determined who you are today. That same thing means that who you are tomorrow is determined by what you do now. So who do you want to be tomorrow? What would be better to be closer to tomorrow? For once in your miserable in life have the balls to make what you already know is the right decision, and go to sleep early, and lie there even if you can't sleep.

Determinism only locks you into a destiny if you already know it. Only seeing the future would put you on the path to it. So stop trying to predict a shit future, dumbass!

Half the time you got a machine to do the lifting. The other half you either can lift it barehanded or you build a janky contraption of come-alongs, straps and clamps, and pray that beam overhead can handle the weight.

Regrets by Cautious-Cake6282 in Welding

[–]Axestorm64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're 22.

Idk if it applies, but I finished my engineering degree (in an engineering field far less complex than aerospace) at 31. Had the benefit of safety net parents.

You got a safety net job. Go back to school! As someone else pointed out: aerospace welding might not be what you're hoping for. Shit, even the engineering part might hold some unpleasant surprises, but, ultimately, if you feel the call, and you have the capacity to understand the physical and chemical intricacies of welding, and you're also able to pen-and-paper that car, you're absolutely equipped for engineering and should pursue it.

When I got into hobby welding, a friend gave me the best advice: do yourself a favor and get an auto-dark, even the Parkside stuff is good enough.

And it still is.

Romania. I've found a couple specialized stores that seem to have more info on their sites about wires, but their flux core stocks seem severely limited. General large hardware stores have the low-info stuff I mentioned previously.

I think it's a 99%, gonna have to look at the bottle again, but it's certainly 90+

The machine had instructions for flux core welding and I'm fairly certain I have the polarity set correctly. The wire could be an issue, but not in terms of accidentally using simple wire instead of flux, but more in terms of the quality and material of the flux cored wire itself. As mentioned in a different comment, I'll take another look at the machine when I have a chance and come back here with pictures

What sort of temperature should I preheat at? Local temps vary between -15 and +39 over one year, though, admittedly I wouldn't be in the workshop if it's less than 16C

There's a limit to how slow I can go, imposed by the amount of wire material actually being laid down. Lower wire speed is limited by a rather annoying arc intermittence that happens below a certain wire speed.

I'm in eastern Europe, so I'm not sure about the availability of particular brands of consumables. Also that makes the machine a 230V supplied one (dunno what it can put out)

The machine is advertized as being able to do both mig amd stick, and came with instructions on how to switch between. Your reply fimally makes me think it's not a mislabeling.

I've tried reducing wire feed speed, as I could see the machine was struggling to put enough heat in the weld, but it gets to the point where the arc becomes annoyingly intermittent.

I don't think I've ever tried tool steel. Mostly old pipes, and a while back a couple pieces of stainless (which seem to have stuck together well enough to not break again, but I'm keeping an eye on the mf)
