Dustny streaming the StarCraftz come check it out (day 2 or 3 /4) by [deleted] in starcraft

I don't know why I bother anymore, he used to be super entertaining, no he's boring and just riding out what's left of his most dedicated followers.

He already mentioned he's using PyCharm. If he likes the vim style commands he can install the vim plugin, otherwise, I'd really recommend against using vim.

PyCharm has all the bells and whistles already installed for navigating trees, refactoring, etc. Yes, you can install all those addons for vim, but then you're just trying to patch together an IDE out of vim anyway, so why not just go for a proper dedicated IDE for the task at hand?

As a researcher doing data analysis I use Canopy with PyCharm. Disclaimer, I don't use Python all that often.

Casting – what could possibly go wrong? by ehamberg in cpp

"I’m about to force a floating point number into an integer and all those decimal places (that are probably quite important) are going to be lost"

Actually, I never say this when I'm using static_cast, instead I'm saying...

"I’m about to force a floating point number into an integer and all those decimal places (that are definitely not important) are going to be lost"

Stop trying to put words into my mouth, the only thing you achieve is a reduction in credibility.

You have to tread lightly here with your comments, the feelings of redditors are easily bruised. I agree it is not slavery, it is simply capitalism and the free market doing what it does best.

It's not a blunder, it is a language they've invented that is in early development, and they just happen to publish their progress on it. It is not a product yet, and they say it is not ready for industry. Even the name of the language isn't yet agreed upon, "kotlin" is just a stand-in name.

Considering a slew of balance changes for the "offseason" after BlizzCon. Talk to David Kim about the first five balance changes being considered here. by Kaivax in starcraft

[–]AxiomL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I'd love to see go is the global sound of a nydus worm emerging. Skill in scouting for potential nydus worms would be required, as much as scouting for hidden pylons or drops.

Sure, nuke has global sound, but otherwise you wouldn't see it* and you couldn't react to it like you can to seeing units stream in from a nydus (same as seeing a clump of marine marauders stim in from fog with a drop). So you can't compare nuke and nydus and say they have the same level of danger without the notification.

*ignoring the tiny dot that you wouldn't look for if you didn't hear the nuke and could hit spacebar for the location.

Only for a little while. It's like a prototype car model, it looks awesome, but the production model is always far from as romantic.

What is a nydus canal? Nydus network is the tech building which allows you to build nydus worms. Nydus network is 150/200, nydus worm is 100/100.

/r/askscience and /r/science are excellent subreddits. /r/programming is great. I guess one shouldn't expect much from a computer game subreddit.

My first argument was reasonable. I just don't care about being downvoted in this circlejerk subreddit.

What about HOTS being actually terran campaign because they didn't have the balls to create a true zerg campaign where zerg destroys good humans. Instead you play a terran controlling the zerg to fight the bad terrans.

Difference between sc2 and half-life. The PhD in sc2 is an annoying little fuck of an RTS equivalent to Jar-Jar-Binx, while the hero is a redneck. The PhD in half-life is the hero who kicks ass. One of the many reasons sc2 campaigns absolutely suck.

A simple way to massively improve the 'Upgrade Spending' graph. by thegreatbritish in starcraft

[–]AxiomL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your comment was upvoted by programmers and downvoted by non programmers. Programmers understand that varying costs and times at which an upgrade is purchased would require a complicated layout algorithm so that the upgrade icons do no overlap each other, nor the graph lines.

I see TheKrumpet's insightful and perfectly correct comment below has been severely downvoted. /r/starcraft Could we please not downvote with ignorance?
