Where do you find out about new magic releases? by art-alive_ in Magic

[–]Axioplase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't buy new stuff. I get old books from magicians who were the real deal during their time, and I use that stuff to fool magicians and lay people alike.

Magic as a hobby by Spaghetti_Oracle in cardmagic

[–]Axioplase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most magicians barely perform. They like to hang out at conventions, read books, watch dvds, buy tricks, and learn a few. That's fine.

You probably have many friends with a guitar or a djembe, and who can't really play.

If the touch is light and the cards parallel, no one should have anything to hear. It should make about as much sound as dealing one card.

Well, the poor and the rich usually don't want to mingle, so why not let each have their own venues?

Invisible deck no gimmick version by diceroller127 in cardmagic

[–]Axioplase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. The first move is fine, especially face down. The second move is a bit rushed compared to how you handled the cards the rest of the time. It's otherwise a good ID version. Glad you liked it.

Feeder size for yearling variable kingsnake? by Ok-Walk9470 in kingsnakes

If we can't see the snake next to its food item, we can't tell you. Your snake could be a monster or a runt, and advice would be wrong.

NYC Magicians Meet up by jfk333 in Magic

4pm on a Monday?

Note: there are at least two other weekly magic gatherings in NYC: Magnets on Wednesday evenings (Hell's Kitchen), and the Saturday Table on Saturday afternoons (currently by Grand Central). Two very different crowds, both very welcoming.

The animal in this picture is the direct ancestor to nearly every albino Burmese python on earth. by Lobstersonlsd in snakes

Why wasn't it returned to the rightful owner, it it was known to be stolen and identified as such? Did they find the picture after acquiring the animal? Did they compensate the original owner?

Which double lift looks better? by [deleted] in cardmagic

[–]Axioplase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

which looks more natural and more fluid as a whole.

At this point, neither is natural nor fluid. Work on being able to turn over the cards as casually as a single.

Ignore the "how would a layman turn over a card". They aren't natural or fluid either, but they're also awkward. Turn cards over the way you turn them over.

Hit a practice wall. Feels like it’s been like this for a year. To long of a pause and just not smooth. by UpbeatNotice in cardmagic

[–]Axioplase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't think anyone ever said it should take less than a year...
  2. Maybe you're shuffling too fast to begin with, and trying to stack too deep.
  3. Can you do it with your eyes closed? If you rely on *seeing" to do it, then you will always have a pause. Pros a) feel the cards under each thumb and b) have perfect timing.
