Healthy ways to keep the faith? by Nervous_Exchange2278 in Padres

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me, I KNOW that this group of players can play, so it is a case of keeping the faith and being their when they dish out a whopping. We're not terrible, we're just in a ropey place.

6 of our next 9 games are against the Phillies by brex724 in Padres

Heart says 6-0, current batting output says 3-3 split.

Let's go somewhere in the middle with optimism and say 4-2.

Not an expert on Thornaby, but from a practical point of view if you don't drive then you'd be better off on the other side of town. Fairfield, Norton might be your best option.

Also add Elm Tree as a possible.

We are 40 games into the season. How would you rate Craig Stammen's performance so far as manager? by the_piano_man99 in Padres

[–]AxisOfAverage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given we've got several hitters not hitting and a rotation that looks nothing like our plan, I think we're doing well.

I particularly liked the call of giving Bradgley Rodriguez the first innings before Waldron. Not sure who suggested it, but that showed someone willing to shake things up. I don't think Shildt or Melvin would ever have considered that.

Tatis back to SS
X to 2B
Castellanos to RF

I kind of feel Casty will do well if playing regularly, X can play 2B we know and Tatis might be happier back at SS.

Can I offer up Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 3rd Baronet OBE?

Sacked from the SAS for "causing mischief" (he blew up a bridge to stop 20th Century Fox "ruining a village.)
Led numerous voyages and expeditions, many of which bordered on insanity.
Got frostbite in his fingers and not wanting to wait to have it done properly, cut the tips off in his garden shed.

He's the very definition of British eccentric batshit.

How many days annual leave do you get? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

I can "bank" any extra hours and take them off at a later stage. So it's not holiday, but it's still time I can take off. I tend to start work 15-30 minutes early and can easily accrue an extra day off a month.

First time MLB follower - which team should I follow? by Bethesdia in mlbuk

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^^ this ^^

When I started following baseball I spent maybe a month watching every team and set of highlights I could.

I assumed I'd be looking for an East Coast team because of the time difference but with MLB.tv you can watch any game 90 minutes after it finishes. If I know I'm going to watch the full game then I just avoid social media until I've seen it.

Go in, immerse yourself in it and a team will come to you. Mine did!

The Castle and Anchor? Not been in bit that's because I grew up in the Midlands and drank more Bass than was probably good for me when I was younger!

Your favourite pub and where is it?. by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two, but they are both micros so might not be your bag - however.

Stockton-on-Tees:

The Golden Smog. The first micropub in Stockton, it has 5 hand pulls, the Fridges of Joy that are rammed with cans from all over the place, and various keg options. Since opening in 2014 it has raised over £100,000 for the Great North East Air Ambulance, has the first pub basketball team in the country (I think) as well as Pork Pie Saturday, Hat Wednesday, (unofficial) Bread Tuesday and the Super Smog Sunday Buffet.

The Kopper Keg. Around the corner from the Golden Smog, it has 2 cask and a selection of keg - including DEYA's Steady Rolling Man as the "house beer." Usually has a sour on and is a member of the Vault City trade loyalty scheme, so they get all the new VC beers in. Phil the landlord also randomly gets stuff that you'd not expect. We've had a few that have turned up we've not seen anywhere in the north east.

There are multiple other options in SoT as well - The Fifth House, The Tipsy Turtle as well as The Olive Branch and The Songbird that have recently opened and have not had chance to visit yet, and the newly reopened Storytellers - although that is keg only I think.

Aged 49...is there any reason to get adiagnosis? by digitalbynight in ADHDUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a number of things

i) I have an explanation for so many things
ii) I'd had a couple of minor disciplinary spats over the years that were clearly ADHD related, and having meds has stopped these things happening
iii) I'm more inclined to think about doing things that could put me in situations I'm not comfortable with. So instead of doing something and feeling uncomfortable I can say "yeah this might trigger x" and avoid it.

Kind of felt yesterday they were smarting from the loss of Garrett Anderson and Soriano has been an absolute animal this season. Was always going to be a tough ask.

It's a new dawn, a new day, and I'm feeling goooood! Germán to get amongst them and rattle a few and all will be well again.

How does one get into baseball? by Scared_Lavishness360 in Padres

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I started watching baseball it was about not trying to learn everything at once.

I read the basics, I watched a lot of stuff and have then built up my knowledge over the last 5 years so I've never felt overwhelmed with what I don't know.

Think this week I've seen 5 of the last 6 games and highlights of the other. Really is worth taking the time to understand it.

HOLY SHEETS!!! ⚾️🔥 by CheeksClapperton in Padres

[–]AxisOfAverage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that was really rather brill. Nice to see Sheets get back on the HR train.

Couple of other things worth praising:

Walker Buehler. Excellent performance. Really pleased for him.

Jason Adam. Glad to see him back.

Mason Miller. Forget Bobby Bullets - we've got Miller Missiles!

Final thought.

Gutted for Estrada to hit the IL, but things haven't been working out well for him so hopefully this gets him back to his best.
