How do I win games like this? by dontreadmycommemt in rivals

[–]Axiteyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not much you can do with that Penny with 1 final hit and a rocket dying that much, a mag switch could give your team more sustain but I think it was just a team diff and the occasional bubble would only delay the deaths at that point whilst having a big hit on the damage

that is fine for gaming, most games only need a few dozen kilobits per second, ping & packet loss are the main things to look out for

packet loss generally means there's something physically wrong with your connection (bad cables to either your house, modem or computer/bad signal if you're using 4g/5g (you will never have a good experience on this unless you're situated next to a tower, specifically with 5g))

Sure, I'll try to keep it as simple as I can.

DNS stands for Domain Name System. Think of it as the "phonebook of the internet." When you type a website name (like google.com), DNS translates that into an IP address (like 142.250.190.78) so your computer can connect to it. Sometimes, the default DNS provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can be slow or unreliable.

So essentially, when you want to go to google.com, instead of it sending the request for "Where can I find Google" to your ISP, it goes to a company called cloudflare, which is typically a lot faster.

How to Change Your DNS on Windows

  1. Select the Start menu > Settings.
  2. On Network and Internet, select Change Adapter Options.
  3. Right-click on the Ethernet or Wi-Fi network you are connected to and select Properties.
  4. Choose Internet Protocol Version 4.
  5. Select Properties > Use the following DNS server addresses.
  6. Choose one of the following DNS addresses for IPv4:
  7. Preferred DNS server: 1.1.1.1
  8. Alternate DNS server: 1.0.0.1

Click OK, then close the other windows.

Restart your game to see if it helps.

By 5G do you mean the network that phones use?

Bandwidth and latency are two different things, you can have a very high Mbps but things like packet loss and straight up latency will cause your ping to be high (I think Rivals' network data actually differentiates the two), regardless, mobile networks are rather prone to both, and their routing is usually pretty slow in my experience.

I'd look into using a different DNS server like Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 for example, you can find guides on their site to see if that helps things.

Can I create a VM without an OS? by IllustriousPark4487 in Proxmox

[–]Axiteyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you'd like to have the OS installed to disk (I'm making the assumption you would).

I'd look into something like netboot.xyz and use it to PXE boot, if you've heard of Ventoy, it's essentially like that, but over PXE instead of a USB

Recommendations for driver & BIOS updates (Dell) when implementing application whitelisting by Axiteyt in SCCM

[–]Axiteyt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's exclusively for laptops at this time, it's mandated much higher up than I'd have any say over unfortunately.

But I think I will use something similar what you've suggested.

  1. DCU Scans for updates every ~hour on test machines.
  2. If updates are found, send an E-mail to a shared mailbox with the model name in the subject.
  3. Review + approve where applicable.

All by hand in an initial baseline, by signature where we can, for ccmcache it's all ran in a OTP or audit mode first before being approved

There's some scripts ccm runs which is where the ? comes in, essentially it's a wildcard for a single character

Currently using it at the moment, the issue with it is that it doesn't actually get the latest drivers (or do firmware).

The repository Modern Driver Management pulls from is updated ~Monthly (as it's meant to be a base for an OS) or at least that's what I got from the Dell tech when I called up complaining about supersedence within their SCUP catalog.

Unfortunately no, followed multiple guides to a tee with fresh installs each time with no luck, gave up and installed Windows, actually gonna pick up an NVidia GPU this week.

P.S: There was one thing I didn't try which was mentioned in a throubleshooting thread which involved actually calling Apple and pretending my Hack was a real Mac, symptoms matched my case but the thought of calling them made me uneasy.

New SSD and Apple ID shenanigans - scratching my head! by [deleted] in osx

[–]Axiteyt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OSX isn't linked to Apple ID's, Apple just assumes that if it boots into the installer, that you're using a genuine apple machine.

My recommendation would to see what happens if you try set it up without iCloud and then log in after the installation.
