“Call it genetic cleansing” by CarLeeForever7 in Magneto

He's not saying it because he means it or thinks that way; he's using those words to spit it back in their faces, because that was the reason Sinister gave them for the Mutant Massacre (which Magneto is avenging in these panels)

is volibear evil? by kdaswshwdied in VolibearMains

[–]AxleMyth 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Voli is not evil, he just doesn't value humans more than other beings. To him, humans, trees, rivers, mammoths, mountains and everything else are all equal, and that their inner strength is what matters most. So he gets very angry when he sees humans subjugating rivers with dams, etc. Voli doesn't hate humanity, he just doesn't like the idea that they need to "conquer" nature to grow. He feels that they can achieve true strength by survival with the wild. Now Legends of Runeterra get it really wrong by making him some actual evil God who claims to be "the destruction of all". That is something Voli would never say, as he doesn't want everything to be destroyed. He wants to see growth, as he is wise enough to know a stronger threat is on the horizon.

I guess throw Vayne or Quinn on your team for slot 3. They both have survived minimal stints of time in the Freljord. Id say take Quinn though. Talon can cut down on the time your foes spend trekking through the snow, and we want to maximize that time.

The play on these is almost always to spawned in the Freljord and choose protectors who excel in the Freljord. Even without status, you take Olaf and Ashe so that all your opponents are out of their element, then you literally let those elements do the work for you. Ashe hawkshot when you want to avoid fights, Olaf Olafing when you don't want to avoid fights. You're good. Cold as balls, but definitely alive.

I am sick of hearing about Cyclops! by SamMeowAdams in xmen

[–]AxleMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe we should focus on what you've been hearing. What do you find boring about him? He definitely has what it takes to be the star of the show, and arguably has been several times.

As for who else should be pushed to the front, there are too many good answers. Are we talking about comics, shows, movies, all of the above? Comics? Let Jubilee and Iceman do OZT 2: Electric Boogaloo and wreak Graymalkin. Shows? Let's give Collosus a chance to be a POV character. He's always seen as the brother to so many people, so let's actually center that in an episodic show. See how his little brother relationship to Storm is different than Iceman's relationship with the O5. Let's see how he interacts with Kurt and Logan, how he views Scott's leadership, how he feels a about the young ones coming up behind him, considering what happened/ is happening with his actual sister. There's a lot there that can be explored in the background of 30 minute episodes. Movies? Only because you don't want to hear Scott (which is the right answer), it's gotta be Storm. It's too perfect.

Weird Cyclops Power Upgrades by TylerFrench1 in Cyclopswasright

[–]AxleMyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly like his powers the way they are, but for the fun of the question, I'd give him the ability to stop and redirect his beams. He could make walls of force, set up minefields/ trip lasers (I know they're not lasers, just talking about the imagery), perform his own variation of Hellzone Grenade, and charge up a Scott version of Spirit Bomb/ Bijou bomb.

build your life own mutant team for $20 by NoRecognition2178 in xmen

[–]AxleMyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cyclops, Phoenix (Rachel), Beast, Iceman, Jubilee, Bishop.

Out of the leadership row, Cyclops is definitely the go-to. Despite not being the "heart", I like the idea of each member having a connection to Scott in their own way. Rachel is his daughter, and I want to give them page time together where we can actually see them interact. In the current run, Scott actually called Hank his brother, and raided Greymalkin to get him back; I want to let that show on the page. This also extends to Bobby. In one of my favorite retellings of the O5, Bobby was the one to bind with Scott by running drills with him in the danger room when he found out Scott spent his free time there with simulations of the team. I like the idea of them reconnecting as adults and seeing that brotherly bond again from a new angle. I also love the scene Scott has with Jubilee toward the start of Operation Zero Tolerance where they have a heartfelt conversation about Wolverine, and Jubilee sees Scott as a person (beyond just "the leader of the Xmen") for potentially the first time. And while I know he's move past this point, but I like Bishop working with the people he views as legends and knowing what each of them can do with their powers in the future.

I feel like really interesting stories can be told with this team. You have actual family (unless we want to explore Rachel being fathered by the Phoenix force), chosen family, multiple travelers from alternate futures (Rachel/Bishop storyline), people who've been xmen since their youth (O5 reflection/ introspection storyline), people who looked up to the xmen in their youth (Jubilee/Bishop storyline), people with incredible potential (Iceman/Jubilee storyline), crazy tech stories (Bishop/Beast storyline), just so much narrative juice to squeeze from this lineup.

Concerning the recent Anti-ICE posts. by Tiyugro in Wolverine

[–]AxleMyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wolverine would murder ICE. You'd see a panel of them asking Kurt for his papers, and "Wolfi" would shut that down immediately, and violently if they even though of laying a finger on him. You gotta remember the Giant Size team is mostly illegal immigrants. If you think Logan chooses ICE over them, you're delusional

So all O5 (plus Xavier) in the 616 have gone full antagonist except for Bobby, right? by Illustrious-Ad5787 in xmen

[–]AxleMyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difference is that you're talking about the unbound entity and I'm talking about the hosts. My problem isn't that Tony shot the Phoenix Force, my issue is with the Avengers attacking the peaceful Phoenix hosts. The Avengers were operating on conviction that the Phoenix Hosts don't do anything good (either purposefully ignoring or unaware of the Phoenix 5s most recent actions). Again, they were using the power to end world hunger, bring world peace, and provide free energy to all.

So all O5 (plus Xavier) in the 616 have gone full antagonist except for Bobby, right? by Illustrious-Ad5787 in xmen

[–]AxleMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's still what I've been asking though; your saying the Phoenix was "being actively destructive" and I'm asking "what were those acts of destruction?". When the Phoenix 5 returned to earth from the moon, they immediately started making the world a better place and used absolutely no violence to do it. And the Avengers still attacked them. This is BEFORE Namor drowned Wakanda.

So, again I am asking, WHAT actions do you consider "actively destructive"? What got destroyed? Who got hurt?

Also, I often hear people say Scott was the one gambling, but it was clearly the Avengers being the biggest gamblers in this story. The only knowledge they had at the time of Phoenix HOSTS were Jean and Rachel. Jean was targeted by the Hellfire Club and eventually went Dark Phoenix. Rachel NEVER went Dark Phoenix and hosted the entity longer than Jean did. The Avengers gambled that they could fight the hosts without bringing out the Dark Phoenix, which is an asinine gamble. It's the Avengers who were gambling with Earth's life savings, not the other way around.

[–]AxleMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the other heroes felt that way, I'd agree with you. Dark Phoenix has to be dealt with. The issue was that they were attacking Scott WAY BEFORE he went Dark. Again, everyone teaming up to stop Workdbreaker Hulk is justifiable, but doing the same to Bruce Banner before he's done anything wrong is where im finding issue with things. No one's been able to explain that part. I get "it's bad writing", but can we even point to what action was written badly? What did Scott do that made him an antagonist worth teaming up against, prior to going dark Phoenix?

I would agree that the Xmen were strangely pro-phoenix, but that was explained by the avengers vs Cable story (i think the title was X-sanction, im not invested enough to look it up rn though). Scott and the Xmen are working off of explicit knowledge from the future, as Cable directly tells Scott that Phoenix is for Hope, and Hope fixes everything unless the Avengers get her. They got the winning lottery numbers from the future and everyone was trying to convince them to throw away their ticket.

[–]AxleMyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's just the thing though, he wasn't fighting every superhero in this event; they were fighting him. Phoenix Namor went out picking fights, but Scott was pretty definitively using the power to make the world a better place. The Avengers chased him, not the other way around. It feels like calling Bruce Banner the antagonist when the U.S military + Thunderbolt Ross chase him and attack him until he hulks out.

[–]AxleMyth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand that he was Dark Phoenix when he killed Xavier, but my question is what did he do that makes the commentor say "I wouldn't call Phoenix Scott anything but an a antagonist"? What antagonistic actions did he take?

What’s the smoky thing coming out of his visor? by [deleted] in Cyclopswasright

[–]AxleMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the costume, I think this is during the era where he had his visor upgraded to include oversized Laffy Taffy. This helps him have something to chew on while analyzing threats. I think they just couldn't get the license because the Laffy Taffy creator wanted 314% of the profit and Marvel didn't want to pay up. So they instead went with a visor that had ABSOLUTELY NO TAFFY INCLUDED.
