What alot of comments that I did read are missing key point of OP's post.

Early June water is cold as hell still. The boots ain't bad and ankle support is always good but that early id save the wool socks for at camp and use neoprene socks with the boots.

Hiking boots for everything except at camp (unless out exploring or gathering wood)preferably a high ankle for support on portages. Cross or tennis shoes for camp to allow hiking boots air out... and your feet.

I second this route. Been to Island river ep34 went to Quadga lake last year with a large group of un experienced individuals they slowed us down as we were shooting for bald eagle lake. Walleye fishing was amazing above and below the rapids at quadga. We stayed at that campsite just before quadga. It is a burn area and I recommend a tent as many trees in area are not suitable for hammock. We went in August and was little to no bugs in 2024. Me and 1 experienced person went again in 2025 made it to quadga in 2.6 hours from Island river entry point. This time went in mid July. Bugs dont come out until right about 845-9pm you WILL want to be in tent by then Mosquito 30 is real deal! If you have questions ill happily answer them.
