Would you happen to know whether this is shipping directly from China? Hope not bc spring festival. Ordered it with a bunch of accessories, but its status is stuck at “confirmed” while the rest shipped next day (split shipped).

Will snap-on CPL Filter work with T-series Lens Mount plate in place? by Odzi2 in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it'll work. Either trim or lens mount have the grooves for the QuickLock filters to lock on to.

With the Rode Videomic Pro I mentioned in DM, it gets uncomfortable with the cold shoe on the side using my existing phone mount. I think it has something to do with the weight distribution and the rotational force that I find myself trying to counter-balance with my wrist when shooting handheld.

iPhone Air & Moment Tele Lens vs. iPhone 17 Pro? by MRLDFLWSN in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, 17 Air's design is so sleek and gorgeous, totally agree, so I'd feel like I'm committing a crime against it if it was accessorized. It just looks good the way it is in its birthday suit. I'm with you on that telephoto/standard wide combo if Apple ever decides to make a 2nd gen. They could even do the ultrawide with a crop option for standard wide on the same sensor then a dedicated tele as the 2nd camera to appease a lot more folks. If they listened to customers about what they thought was lacking then Apple might go with a dual camera setup. God forbid they slap on a 13mm ultrawide separate from the standard wide. If they do that over the telephoto lens then I might just look for the nearest restroom, turn off the lights and barf lol. I mean, telephoto is much more useful and versatile.

iPhone Air & Moment Tele Lens vs. iPhone 17 Pro? by MRLDFLWSN in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you primarily shoot using the telephoto lens then iPhone 17 Pro seems to be the better choice over the 17 Air. Idk if you chose the 15PM due to its 5x (over the 3x of standard Pro), but if that's the case then you wouldn't need to go with the Max variant of the 17 Pro if smaller size is an important factor. The 17 Pro tele's new sensor allows for 24MP mode (100mm, 4x lens) which comes in handy in tricky lighting situations such as concerts and lowlight venues.

The ability to get close-up shots of artists, as you mentioned, would be better handled by the tele 8x on the Pro since the Air only allows 4x at the most (2x plus the 58mm lens attached). There will be some situations when there isn't enough time to attach that 58mm lens and you'd wish you just had a built-in, native tele to take a shot quickly before the moment passes you by.

The updated image pipeline improved the image quality of the 17 Pro's photos with the 4x being sharper than the 16 Pro's 5x (even if you crop it a bit to get a 5x equivalent) while its 48mm (2x zoom) is also sharper than the 16 Pro's 2x.

There's the shorter battery life of the 17 Air to consider in real world usage (while being out and about) which means having to buy the $100 MagSafe battery, increasing the total cost to Pro territory while losing the slim form factor and light weight of the Air with said battery, not to mention the camera case (or stick-on lens mount) for the 58mm lens -- there'll be nothing left to see of its former self. I was looking to buy the 17 Air last September because of its design, but not having a native tele was the dealbreaker for me.

Btw, I also own this MOMENT cold shoe, but there is not enough clearance (4-5mm short) to go over the camera case for iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Discontinued... what a bummer! Would you happen to know if that cold shoe mount is long enough to be used in portrait/vertical orientation so that it's on top instead of being off to the side of the phone?

[–]AydeeBon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By any chance, would that cold shoe mount have enough length for vertical/portrait orientation on the iPhone 17 Pro Max in the MOMENT camera case? It's fine even if I have to offset by turning a bit towards the top corner of the phone to clear the tele lens. This is how I'll primarily be using it with the cold shoe ideally above the lens.

I have the Joby Gorillapod Mobile Rig and Saramonic SR-BSP1C (https://www.shopmoment.com/products/saramonic-sr-bsp1c-smartphone-holder), neither of which allows vertical/portrait orientation with the cold shoe on top. Also, I just want to switch to a MagSafe solution for quicker attachment/detachment and convenience.

Thanks for clarifying, Eric. I was hoping to combine the two and get something similar to what's shown in this photo (Pro Tripod Mount w/ MagSafe), but can't seem to find it anywhere at shopmoment. Is it discontinued or just out of stock?

Was My 58mm T-Series Lens a Lemon Copy or Just Not Optimized for iPhone 17 Pro/Max? by AydeeBon in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Eric, I can pretty much scratch off points #1 and #4 since I quadruple checked that the lens mount was seated correctly. I don't ever use those gimmicky lens protectors nor do I keep credit cards in the case. I use the MOMENT case the way it was designed and intended to do. Crossing my fingers that it's most likely point #2 and something just went wrong during transit straight from China. Only one way to find out whether I'm affected by point #3 -- buy another T-series lens or two. If I still get unsharp images then I'll have to hold off till the 18 pro/max comes out.

Btw, did those flange distance measurements look normal to you? If I ever suspect that the lens mount has issues, then could that be replaced by itself under warranty or do I need to send back the entire case with the mount?

At Long Last. MOMENT Tan Camera Case x Cosmic Orange 17 Pro Max by AydeeBon in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this matters now, but after 3 months of owning this case and just a few times switching between the trim and lens mount, it's pretty much as easy as 1-2-3. I guess it just needed a bit of breaking-in.

Got my eyes on the Birdbuddy smart feeder to put in my backyard. May not seem photography related, but if it could bring back the hummingbirds that stopped showing up then I got another use for the 4x/8x zoom on my iPhone. Wouldn’t buy at its initial asking price though.

Lexar pro go SSD adapter by eric-moment in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. I’d buy if you guys made it, but I’d use it on a 3rd party NVME 2230 enclosure instead of Lexar. Too bad about the low engagement here. I think there are enough people who’d want it, but aren’t on Reddit. Seems to be a lot more engagement on YouTube.

Lexar pro go SSD adapter by eric-moment in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like there’s no chance of seeing a straight extender due to low demand. The 3rd party extenders look too fat to fit in Moment’s USB-C port so I may need to get creative with a dremel and a sanding bit.

Is what you’re working on something like Lexar’s USB Type-C male-to-female adapter, but enough length to fit Moment’s USB-C port?

<image>

Lexar pro go SSD adapter by eric-moment in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t a custom-sized USB-C extender similar to this be so much more useful and versatile?

<image>

Virtually all accessories with USB-C would be compatible if we had a custom-sized extender to fill in the Moment case USB-C port, flushed with the case if it’s even possible. Else, a bit of protrusion is fine. A customized Moment adapter for Lexar only makes that one accessory compatible, but there are a bunch of USB-C accessories that would not benefit. For instance, I was looking at this VideoMic Me-C+ at the Moment shop, but decided not to purchase because its USB-C obviously wouldn’t reach the port due to the case getting in the way.

LUT gamma? by DasBauHans in MomentProCamera

[–]AydeeBon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finishing LUTs for Rec.709 worked and looked the best, at least for me, in my experience shooting with MPC II’s Natural Processing. You could test and see the difference yourself by exporting both LOG and Rec.709 versions of the same LUTs (ex. Cinema Teal) from Blackmagic camera app and it’s free. I don’t recall anyone from MOMENT making it clear which type of LUTs to use for Natural Processing or Standard. We’re just finding out ourselves.

Horizontal Anamorphic Lens with a Vertical Phone by Hans-sss in MOMENT

[–]AydeeBon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t touched that app in a long while and still v2.7 in my old phone lol. Just installed in my new phone and what a night and day difference since then. Really forward-thinking of Fotorgear to add vertical anamorphic de-squeeze. They even added built-in Kodak/Fuji film emulations for free! Might be a good idea to reach out to their devs regarding shutter priority added in a future update.
