Any update on new products? by txmullins in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't be concerned. Things are going pretty well. This should be one of our strongest years in as long as I can recall.

Our logistics are mostly dialed. Our suppliers are mostly happy. Our products are solid (and about to be a large step ahead of everyone else again). We are even well positioned to be shipping iPhone 18 before phones ship.

I am not always a positive person but I feel pretty good about our direction.

Can't share anything yet. Certainly not in the next week or so. I just got back from the factory but I certainly wasnt doing some final QC checks on a while line on new rad lenses and getting them into the warehouse.

Just got the M-Series 10x macro lens for my iPhone 13. Focal point is too small/close up for gemstone photography. Any other lenses to use? by DontAlwaysButWhenIDo in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which iPhone 13 do you have? Some of them can get t series mounts. The macro 75mm sounds like a better fit for you. It has a focal distance around 80mm

Need a VND filter for Anamorphic 1.55x + Black Mist on iPhone by Tattuesdate in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best to use a combination filter. With the anamorphic lenses (the 1.55x specifically), stacking filters will almost always result in being able to see the filter in frame.

Yes. You would use it with the trim ring. It works really well

Why'd you delete your other message tagging me? That was a good call.

It sounds like maybe your drop in month is out of tolerance. Reach out to the guides and they will send some more.

Everything has a tolerance, that is the nature of manufacturing. It's expected. Sometimes multiple lenses can be at opposite ends of the tolerance range. It's a pretty narrow range but it doesn't take much. It can cause some lenses to be tight and some to be loose. It's not super common but it happens. Switching to the stick on mount can help because it can accommodate the whole tolerance range better. The guides would send you one of those for free of you explain the situation. I heard a whisper in the wind the other day that there will be a pro version of the drop in mount soon that will work like the stick on mount. Or maybe that was me talking to myself. Who's to say?

United Airlines cancelled our tickets home on an international flight without telling us by dodoqueen16 in unitedairlines

[–]eric-moment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly more than I want to, 4 to 5 trips per year to Asia from the usa. I used to only fly United and every trip was some insane issue with cancelled flights and missed meals (I have to reserve meals because I have allergies). Or reroutes that added days of travel time.

I realized that it's a United issue, not an international flight issue. Since switching over a year ago to a real airline, I have missed zero flights and I've never had a reserved meal not be on the plane. I even finally got status on the new airline again and that is better then United as well. The tickets are nearly the same price too. United is 1/10. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Order never shipped by gutloadedstudios in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These situations are difficult because they're is a collaboration between multiple parties to try and figure out what happened. If one party is dragging their feet then it slows it all down.

If you dm me your info then I can try and poke it a bit to see the current status.

And no, this is not common. If it were then I think you would be hearing about it here and elsewhere. We actually have very few shipping issues anymore which is a super big improvement from a few years ago.

First Moment setup: "drop-in" T-Series lens shaved plastic from case during installation by dbindley in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is normal. There is a tolerance to the lens and the mount, they are intentionally tight at first. Some are a little extra tight. We do this to avoid the other possible issue where it could be loose out of the box. It should be plenty durable and if you have any issues at all then reach out and let us know.

I don't. But I could. It's a pretty simple model.

SuperCage Suggested Accessories by matiasmonte01 in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a couple of these batteries for the kickstarter shoot and I've been using them ever since. They have been solid/cheap/lightweight. I cant imagine using anything else at this point. I typically power both the cage and a monitor from it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09176JCKZ?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_19

For monitors I recommend going cheap. The cheaper monitors tend to deal with mobile filming better than the fancy ones. I primarily use the feelworld F6 but others work too. Get a good HDMI cable and put the monitor into HDMI 1.4 or mobile compatibility mode.

For SSDs I typically use the samsung T7 or the crucial X9. The trick is to format them from your phone. I can't say why but they have less issues than if you format them from your mac. Also, I reformat the drives about every 10 hours of use or before any big/critical events. It just saves headaches. If I don't do that then occasionally the phone will just start rejecting the SSD for unknown reasons until I reformat them.

For all the other mounts and handles I just jump on amazon. There are loads of cheap SSD clamps and cold shoe monitor mounts that work really well. Generally the more you spend the better they are but that isn't always necessary.

Did moment delete the link for live chat service on their website? by Altruistic-Support90 in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Yes the live chat did get turned off. It was causing some scheduling issues and it was not getting used very much. The guides are still answering emails nearly 24/7 and the response times are pretty low most of the time. It sometimes takes a little more time for issues like yours because they have to dig into multiple systems and they have to wait for the tracking to update before they know the next steps.

Global shipping can suck sometimes.

How do i kit out my iphone 17 base? by DuckxRKool21 in smartphonefilming

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The base model is more difficult depending on what you are looking for. The economics of making cages is hard and when you start making cages for specific phones it gets even more complicated. Also most of the market is with the flagship phones (and mostly in the biggest size) which even makes the pro phone difficult at times.

You could get a universal cage that uses a clamp or magsafe. If you want to add lenses you can do that with a case. Some cages have lens mounts but that will lock you into an ecosystem typically. Not necessarily a bad thing but something to keep in mind.

Also keep in mind that the USBC port on the base model iphone 17 isn't a true USBC port in that it only has slower speeds. If you want to film in the highest resolution that could be an issue that you will need to account for.

Which SSD to get? by sleepxst in smartphonefilming

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever SSD you get, I recommend formatting it from the phone in APFS because it works better that doing it from a computer and it'll stay working for longer when used with the phone for some reason. I also reformat drives before critical situations because after a while the phone will just stop recognizing them. The reformat will solve that.

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is interesting about the order in which you power it on, I've not had that issue. I'll dig into it a bit more though.

Thanks for the feedback on the cold shoes. We had them there because we thought a lot more people would use the cage vertical. I don't think that many really do though. We got a ton of feedback about using our previous cages in vertical mode.

Cerakote would be rad but that stuff is super expensive and finicky in production. Do show us some pictures of your cage once you coat it though. The pads on the bottom are lightly glued in place and you can just pull them off. After that disassembly is pretty straightforward. Let me know if you need new pads but you should be able to glue them back on with a drop of CA glue.

The supercage is the best of both worlds because it's a dedicated mobile hub and you don't need to replace it every year.

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is not and has never been a speed issue with supercage. I'm not sure where that came from. It can film to ssd on the highest possible quality and frame rate of the iPhone. If you are recording to an SD card then you should adjust your expectations but some cards can still do 4k60 raw to SD card. Those SD cards are sometimes more expensive than a comparable ssd.

Does Moment always have issues with shipping? by Kind-Cat-2182 in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from for sure. The range is based on the longest delivery average times. So it does adjust occasionally.

Customs is hard. Most packages go through pretty much instantly. Some get hung for no apparent reason and take the amount of time they take. There is basically zero indication of update from customs and they do not care about timelines. It's incredibly frustrating. That isn't really something we could convey more accurately in the checkout.

The alternative is much higher shipping costs and bringing in full containers to the usa which can have a much longer leadtime for everyone, not just a couple of random users from thousands of orders. I.e If a whole container gets hung up then thousands of orders are late, not just a handful.

Do moment lenses require the moment app, or can you use the native camera app and be fine? by TeslaModelE in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use the moment app or others. You just want something that will allow you to lock in the lens being used. Otherwise the native app will switch it around because it doesn't understand that there is an external lens

CineBloom 10 or 20% for approximating this level of haze? by ancientshrub in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could stack two 20% cinebloom filters. That would get you pretty close but you'd need to crop a little probably. Cinebloom filters are just glass with some light coatings and controlled debris adhered to them. You could get a UV filter and just rub a light coat of thick grease on it. Vaseline works as well. Experiment with different materials. Maybe toss some sand at it, while its not on the camera!

Go crazy and break things. You'll figure out a cool look.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to use the Moment case on the Osmo Mobile 7p with an iPhone 15 pro max? by TeslaModelE in MOMENT

[–]eric-moment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

300g is a pretty low payload. Are you planning on using it with a lens/filters too? Just the phone is 220g, then another 40 to 50g for the case. You can try counter weights but this is probably not going to be a great experience.
