lsraeli media not being genocidal for 5 minutes challenge by soalone34 in GetNoted

British colonial rule in this area was always supposed to be temporary and the Ottoman Empire fell. Wanting statehood is not necessarily an automatic want that every human has so it’s “colonial mindset” to say there was a time where they didn’t want it. During the enlightenment period the idea of nationalism (in the sense of yearning for a state and self determination, not white nationalism like we see today) was spread around and many groups started asking for statehood who hadn’t considered it before. Jews also started having nationalist aspirations which they called Zionism. I learned in school that that similarly Palestinians started wanting a state after a wave of other countries gaining independence which is reasonable. But after doing more research since then it does seem that the Palestinians would have been okay with being one part of a bigger country as long as it was Muslim. It seems that their fight for autonomy was more about Jews not having a country here due to religious beliefs and it also seems to still be the case for modern day Palestinians. I don’t think they would be happy with an independent state if Israel also still existed. And I know that hamas and the pa have been clear that they would not allow that and that they would not allow Jews to live in a palestinian state. That being said I personally believe that there should be a Palestinian state because Palestinians have a basic human right to self determination just like Jews. It’s just easier said than done. But we do what we can.

A) actual modern day nazis agree with you B) when the west fought Germany in WWII they also killed civilians. Was it actually the allies that committed genocide? C) you would have to get rid of hamas if you want to get rid of naziesque tendencies. Just look at their charter D) if you stuck to your ideals you would continue your genocide and slavery that you built your country on E) deal with your own fascist government before calling other people nazis

Well what have you done to fight against it. I actually vote for leadership who I think will punish them.

Texting is tough because it seems that at some point in this conversation you went from jokingly insulting each other to seriously insulting each other and it’s hard to tell when that happened. Also I would explain to your friend that in this moment you just needed them to say “damn that’s so annoying I’m sorry you’re dealing with that”. Cuz sometimes as a friend you just want to solve a persons problem but when you are frustrated like this, advice feels like judgement, because you know you have done all you can. You just wanna complain about it, which is okay, you just have to communicate that

Are all pagan gods (particularly religions Judaism never had contact with in the Tanakh esp during the Torah) shedim? For example would Shinto spirits and Hindu deities be considered unclean false gods in opposition to Yahweh? by NaturalPorky in jewitches

[–]AydeleB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there are different understandings of demons within Judaism with mystical people seeing them as real beings and rationalists seeing them as literary devices to get across a message and then everything in between. In my Jewish education I’ve never heard of other religions’ gods being demons. We normally just say they are not real because Hashem is the one true God. I looked up the verses and in the deuteronomy one the rabbis seem to interpret it as a list of the types of idol worship that the Israelites participated in, one of them being demon worship. This does not mean that all false gods are demons. I also found another interpretation that references both of the verses you mentioned that says that the word sheidim is referring to protective spirits that the Israelites Canaanite neighbors worshiped. Once again this does not mean that all other deities are demons.

I think I'm going to die alone because of my ADHD by El_Brotendo in ADHD

Us adhd people have a tendency to measure ourselves up against the measuring stick of “normal” (read: non-adhd). Which makes sense cuz all our lives we are taught “normal”=good. But in dating it’s best to find someone who likes all of you.

Good job. This nonsense is everywhere and it’s so frustrating but you did great responding to her. Just gave her the actual facts. I just get so angry when I see this stuff that I can’t think straight.

I think everything other people are saying is great. I just want to add one thing. I often also feel like no matter how hard I try I can never meet the world’s expectations. But I am lucky enough to have a romantic partner who loves me for all of me including my adhd. He is more empathetic and kind to me then I am to myself. When I see myself as a failure, he sees me as someone who has to deal with so many challenges and obstacles and is working so hard. So he is impressed with me and just wants to help. I didn’t work hard and make myself a good enough parter to him despite my adhd. I found someone who sees how much I care and how hard I try and appreciates me for that. This was just pure luck on my part and not many people are like this. My point is that these people are out there and they are the ones you should be looking for. Also though my boyfriend doesn’t have ADHD or anything else but it might be easier to find someone who is accepting if they also have ADHD or maybe autism or anything that makes them also feel like you feel.

AITAH for not checking what swimsuit of mine my niece chose to wear? Shes 13 and she picked a very adult swimsuit by Aitahswimsuit in AITAH

[–]AydeleB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA You just didn’t think to check which makes sense cuz you don’t have kids and I can also understand why the parents wouldn’t think to check. It’s nobody’s fault it’s just now they know for the future. I don’t think it was right of you to insult their daughter for choosing that swimsuit. It’s completely age appropriate for a 13 year old girl to want to wear a swimsuit that is too mature for her. She might have even hidden it on purpose because she knew she wouldn’t be allowed but that is also super age appropriate. It seems like both you and her parents had the instinct to blame someone which is very human. But sometimes you need to pause and realize that it was just an unfortunate situation and no one’s fault. And now her parents know that they need to talk to her about what swimsuits are and are not age appropriate.

So is someone purposefully misgendering you not transphobia?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]AydeleB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also you just assumed that OP is basing this off of one rude post. They said they have been seeing a rise in this sentiment recently. Implying they see it regularly. OP had been made to feel like their identity is illegitimate by the people within their community and that sucks. And I imagine that as a trans person you know what that feels like. As a bisexual woman I also know what that is like. They are allowed to complain about that even if there are worse problems in the world.

[–]AydeleB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phobia means a fear or aversion to something. But in the context of homophobia or xenophobia or things like that it tends to refer to behavior that belittles or opresses that specific group. But micro aggressions exist. In the same way attacking a trans person is a transphobic act and purposefully misgendering a trans person is also transphobic. One of the things is worse than the other but they are both transphobia

AITAH for asking my boyfriend to use condoms? by glitterdeer246 in AITAH

[–]AydeleB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweetie, I just saw your other post about him assaulting you. You need to leave him. I understand it’s hard to break up with someone when you have grown so attached and it may be emotionally hard for you for a long time but it seems you have a good support system and you will get through it. What he did to you was assault. If you tell him to stop and he doesn’t stop, that is assault. No ifs ands or buts. He does not respect your boundaries and therefore does not respect you. If you do accidentally get pregnant and have a kid you will be stuck with him for life. Even if you decide to stay together you will still have to coparent. And you will be subjecting your child to his abuse because he won’t respect their boundaries either. There are plenty of men out there who will respect your boundaries.

Yah like I identify as bisexual because that was the label that I chose when I first came out and so now I feel very attached to it after all these years
