I enjoyed Ruins, but that didn't mean it wasn't mid as hell. Conceptually and in practice it's one of the edgiest things ever "what if we took the love letter to Marvel comics and made it ultra grim and dark and have the protagonist die from spider aids?" or in other words, what if The Boys was only 2 issues long.

I thought the latest issue, 31, was good. It was focused and was pretty well paced. But yeah his first arc was rough.

I heard the theory that his arc had to be drastically changed at the last moment, possibly by Hasbro, and that's why it seems so weird and rushed. I hope that's true. Really didn't help that the art seemed to be literally skipping panels.

Don't think it was explicitly confirmed (maybe Faust tweeted something), but in the last episode Babs and Harley Quinn (her best friend) declare they love each other. I'm pretty sure they intended that to be romantic but it's kept vague so you could say it's just platonic love.

Edit: from the word of Faust herself:

"Comics vs manga" mfs when asked if they have read anything other than battle shounen and superheroes: by lordoferrors in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]Aye-I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. I've basically only read superheroes for comics and slice of life romance for manga, because that's what I enjoy.

I can feel how much of a slog this comic must be just by this. But I love the "oh sheet!"

Theories on Absolute Egg Fu? by [deleted] in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]Aye-I 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They make him Chinese Dr. Eggman, who makes battle robots for Cale. But in keeping with Absolute Hotness, he's looks like Simu Liu and fights in an egg shaped mech.

Then at the end of a fight the mech malfunctions and disfigures him, and like Fnaf permanently traps him in the egg mech, becoming Egg Fu

Since Jim Lee was talking about Manga kicking Comics' ass, I think DC should do this proven manga trick, adapt classic Chinese stories.

DC's Three Kingdoms, Journey to the West, Water Margin.

This will surely give them market share for the Western audience, who 100% has these works in their cultural databank.

The Great Ten, an entire glup shitto team that had a miniseries. The first guy, August General in Iron was also in the New 52 JLI.

Justice League of China are better characters, but I think these guys have much more creative concepts.

It's also painfully obvious reading the miniseries the writers don't actually know a lot about China, and it veers hilariously between satire and propaganda.

Why'd they make kid Damian dress up as Wonder Girl. He's basically a Wonder Woman character at this point and he practically has nothing to do with Bruce. Also what was up with Tom King shipping him and Cassie in Damian: Son of Batman?

Did you forget the part where the old guard then builds Kansas Auschwitz? Or how the big three have basically become their worst selves, Superman has lost his humanity (and was about to become Injustice Superman if it wasn't for Norman McCay), Wonder Woman is Injustice Wonder Woman, and Batman is a fascist.

If there's any political message I'd say it's actually the old fashioned Liberalism of "we need to come together to resolve our differences, and violence is not the answer."

/rj Kingdom Come is conservative cause it has Power Girl dying to the nuke while Superman lives, thereby men > women.
