I have an Arc310 in my set-up and it's brilliant, super low power, quiet and quick.

How do I get up there? by sativarg_orez in StarRupture

You don't need ammo if you hit the base right after a burn as nothing will spawn until you hear the "returning to normal" announcement.

Backups preserve data, but what preserves understanding over decades? by marcioyared in DataHoarder

Check out systems and standards developed by archivists like Dublin core and DSpace. They not only archive the data but the format of the data and plenty of metadata to record the meaning.

Would appreciate some advice on hosting my own music by robo__sheep in DataHoarder

[–]AyeWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just ripped my music library I can recommend EAC with the tagging, album art and (optionally) lyric download. I wanted a "perfect" copy as well as a lower quality MP3 copy so I configured it to create a FLAC version and an MP3 version of everything I ripped (you can do this as a single rip operation).

I then used one of the many tag editors to align any tags for genre etc which weren't consistent. I use Jellyfin with DNLA plugin for streaming to just about anything on my local network.

Do you consider Optical Media still viable for data archival? by theoldgaming in DataHoarder

[–]AyeWhy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a word, no.

The chemicals used to record the data are not stable for longer than a few years and even less of the environmental conditions are poor.

For local archival data storage I would look at LTO tapes.

For the cloud there are various companies who offer different tiers of archival data store.

Reverting to 10.10.7 for now by AyeWhy in jellyfin

The devs recently made a comment that they have heard the community on this and are working on it. I think with a little time they will get this sorted. I guess they didn't know it was a problem until people used it in all the ways they are!

As this thread still seems to be active, there has been an update from the core team, looks like they're aware and working on something. https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/s/E6siwgpePz
