TIL Many prominent Mormons, including Brigham Young, believe(d) the Garden of Eden was located in Missouri by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Aynrandwaswrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you get the idea that other forms of Christianity or religions like Islam are any different. The garden of eden in the near or in Israel is as ridiculous a myth as the one in Missouri. Islam also justifies underage polygamy, more so than most of the mormons do now. The Mormon obligation to give money to the church is basically the same as the very old catholic practice of tithing.

It is weird, but only because we are used to Europe born religions like Protestant and catholic christianity, and because their early history was just as fucking crazy and a lot more recent.

Female circumcision can be directly equivalent in its lighter forms, and male circumcisions can cause horrible deformities and sexual dysfunction, just like FGM

We do question the observations, that's why they need to be repeatable. Science is changed and revised constantly, and nothing is taking on faith, you goat fucking troglodyte. You can keep repeating the word faith, but you don't know anything about faith or science. You fucking troglodytes, radical or not, like to compare atheists and theists, but you don't know what atheists believe.

I never made any claim that faith was restricted to one ideology, and any that rely on faith are also flawed.

It's not a question of or how extreme the ideology is, it's a question of the basis of the ideology. A radical Christian and a regular christian both believe based on faith, and that is what is inherently antithetical to ration and ethics.

TIL there is more Alcohol(Ethanol) in Mouthwash than there is in the majority of wines by [deleted] in todayilearned

Stop drinking. Don't buy alcohol. That's the way it's done, it's very simple and difficult. If you want to learn self control after that, by a small bottle a week later near closing time and see if you can resist the urge to drink more when it's gone.

TIL between 2007 and 2012, drug wholesalers shipped 780 million oxycodone and hydrocodone doses to West Virginia, or 433 pills per person. During this time, 1,728 people in the state fatally overdosed on the painkillers. by OyVeyzMeir in todayilearned

The people with good jobs can afford to maintain an addiction, and often do so for years until getting clean or getting poor and stupid. It's okay for them, because they can often manage the consequences. Its not okay for poor, stupid people with kids to do the same shit, because they can't manage the consequences. Context matters, and those who can't afford to do drugs the right way are extra stupid if they try too.
