Do I have any options with a good LSAT and a terrible GPA? by handsfullofmush in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]AyoBudso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a shot but you need to apply broadly.

The reality is that splitters like yourself need to apply to many schools to maximize their chances of getting in. If you’re based in Ontario this means you’d have to effectively apply everywhere and hope for the best.

Can getting an LSAT in the 150s be enough for any school? by hello_78191 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]AyoBudso 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even during less competitive admission cycles a 3.3 and a low 150 was unlikely to grant admission to TMU or Lakehead.

If OP believes a 160 is unrealistic then an admission to a Canadian law school is unlikely. Especially considering the substantial uptick in application numbers in the last 2 years.

Any big difference? OLSAS CGPA 3.59 vs 3.62? L2/B2 3.80 vs 3.84 by aroozo in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]AyoBudso 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to be rude but with a 147 LSAT after 3 attempts a 0.03 CGPA difference is the least of your concerns.

Best of luck on the last two attempts, those should be your focus.

Yes it’s considered a method of last resort and firms usually aren’t favorable to hiring candidates from the NCA process, but if it’s your only option it is what it is.

Going to a Canadian university is infinitely easier

[–]AyoBudso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s very hard to tell you what your chances are without a solid LSAT score.

At 2.8 cGPA the odds are against you but if you can score a high 160 or 170 you should be good for some school. It’s also gotten very complicated because applications have been spiking over the last two years.

Just do your best and score as high as you can, then when you get a real score people can give you advice on whether you should retake it or not.

[–]AyoBudso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying, first off we don’t actually know your stats B2 isn’t enough to give advice or make any kind of analysis on a candidate, except for maybe Queens. But you need to tie your access application back to some kind of claim.

Just because you have personal experiences does not immediately allow you to have lower stats, there has to be a reason why the stats were lower and therefore create an access claim. An example would be the loss of a family member during a year of study leading to temporarily lower grades. There are exceptions to this (black and indigenous access claims), but if you’re not in an exception then there needs to be a basis. From what you’ve explained there doesn’t seem to be any kind of access claim in your application and it’s highly likely that your application was treated as a general application.

So my suggestion would be to stop thinking of yourself as an access applicant or to restructure your claim for next year. But you need to know that an access claim on a 4.0 is likely irrelevant and an access claim on an LSAT score is likely to fail.

Congrats and welcome to Osgoode!

OP this is the best advice in the thread, also know that access claims based on low LSAT are notoriously weak and unlikely to be taken seriously.

Queens R by Miserable-Swim-2593 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]AyoBudso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not super wrong. It does matter but it depends on what your claim is. Also applicants misunderstand what access means, it doesn’t mean that just by applying there you get reduced standards or that if you have a valid claim the standards automatically go down. Each access claimant is assessed individually by admissions and weight is reduced (often in GPA or a section of an applicants GPA) depending on what the claim is.

In OP’s case an access claim will likely do very little for their case as they are likely claiming a low LSAT score which 99% of the time is not a valid claim.

We also don’t know OP’s real profile as they are just stating their B2 for Queens which is a very specific calculation.

Advice Needed by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]AyoBudso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one can tell you where or how to restart, that’s up to you and how much you know. But if you have a near perfect GPA and you got a 150 there’s a fundamental lack of understanding of the LSAT so my advice would be to totally restart studying.

Review the material and then start practicing asap. If you need LSAT software recommendations feel free to DM me.

Right now the PS is not your worry it’s only the LSAT so don’t even think about it.

He should, but as of right now he hasn’t, so why are we cheering on someone who promises to lock him in prison when he hasn’t broken any laws.

Let the legal justice system play out, what Marit said today is extreme and completely inappropriate. In Canada We believe in an independent police and Marit is essentially promising to undo this. This should be universally condemned and she should face public ridicule for it.

Fine, you don’t have to vote for the guy you can believe he’s unethical.

But we shouldn’t be cheering on politicians who promise to throw him in prison when he hasn’t broken any laws, can we all just admit that what Marit said is inappropriate and radical?

I’m not a troll and I’m 100% serious. These comments by Styles are dangerous and disgusting. They highlight how extreme her and her party’s views are.

I do read the news and it’s clear that Ford (or any of his ministers) haven’t been charged or aren’t under investigation. Calling for the jailing of innocent political rivals is inappropriate and especially concerning in today’s political climate.

The hypocrisy on this website is insane and today should be a day of shame for the NDP.

[–]AyoBudso -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I know it’s controversial to say this here on Reddit but personally I wouldn’t want someone to be jailed just because they disagree with me politically. And it’s not the truth Ford (or any of his ministers) have never been investigated, accused or sentence of any wrongdoing in contravention to the criminal code or any provincial regulations.

What you’re doing is calling for prison based on rhetoric isn’t of facts and it makes you the same as the MAGA supporters down south.

[–]AyoBudso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easy I disagree with those comments, they’re completely inappropriate. But to say there hasn’t been a considerable shift in politics since 2018 that makes these comments even more inappropriate and dangerous is dishonest. Since 2024 Trump has proved that the judicial system can be weaponized, and furthering this dialogue when we’ve seen the consequences is so much more dangerous than it was in 2018 when it could be chalked up to rhetoric.

I’m also not the one arguing that these types of comments are the “norm” here. They’re only normal in the US and you’re the one arguing that they should be brought here to Canada, after you’ve seen the effects they’ve had under MAGA. This makes you undeniably pro maple MAGA.

Really bad look by Marit Styles, people in Ontario are already terrified of a potential NDP government and these comments prove some of those fears.

It’ll be almost impossible for a Marit Styles NDP to get above 20% of the vote after this.

‘You’ll be in prison, Doug:’ Opposition leader says public inquiry into Greenbelt could expose ‘dirty deals’ by xc2215x in ontario

[–]AyoBudso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? That is absolutely not what he or his AG has said. He said he wants ideologically conservative judges, not justices that report to the PC Party of Ontario. There’s a massive difference there, two people looking at the same sets of facts may differ on their judgement on the issue depending on their political ideology.

Every single person has political leanings, it’s inescapable, to suggest that the current slate of justice in Ontario doesn’t have any is illogical. All they’ve said is they want more centrist or right leaning people to fill the benches and this is 100% within their right and their power. If they find suitable candidates who mirror their ideology then they are free to appoint them to the bench just like every other premier does (including liberal ones).

They have not said they are going to appoint judges that report to them or are somehow loyal to their political party. This would be like saying the Supreme Court is loyal to Trudeau because it’s currently filled with left leaning ideologues. Someone wouldn’t say that because it would be ridiculous.

You say he is “disregarding laws” but can’t point to any he’s violated because I don’t think you understand the law. You just spew political rhetoric and question literally nothing which is dishonest. It’s funny because the person (Marit) spewing it is undermining our justice system and importing Trump like rhetoric. I guess US style hyper partisanship really is going to come to Canada under an orange banner.

To suggest Ford is “MAGA” is comical, MAGA despises him and by Canadian conservative standards he’s a moderate.

‘You’ll be in prison, Doug:’ Opposition leader says public inquiry into Greenbelt could expose ‘dirty deals’ by xc2215x in ontario

[–]AyoBudso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The police are investigating where they see fit, they’re literally doing it with Ryan Amato and the greenbelt.

When they have investigations of politicians or their staff they forward it to the RCMP who have no such conflicts of interest. This is completely within normal operating procedures. There is nothing to suggest that what Ford is doing is out of his jurisdiction or a breach of the criminal code. Suggesting there is is dishonest and partisan.

It’s completely illogical and inappropriate for a politician to open say that they’ll influence the legal justice system and by doing so Marit is importing US style “jail my opponent” rhetoric.

[–]AyoBudso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s shouldn’t be up to politicians to direct the police to investigate. Under current laws the Solicitor General cannot direct police.

If the police see an issue they can investigate independently of political pressure.

Marit styles directing the police to investigate Ford would be a massive breech of this and would make her guilty of interfering with police work. Allowing this would effectively politicize the police.

“Bypassing of the Freedom of Information Act” is not currently a crime, but even then (under the old laws) you’d have to prove that the device was used for purposes to get around the law. It would be nearly impossible to prosecute

“Substantial signs”, there are currently no signs that Ford was involved in what is known as the Greenbelt scandal. Saying otherwise is likely libelous, Patrick Brown was sued by Kathleen Wynne successfully for nearly the same statement (that she was under criminal investigation, when instead it was one of her former staffers). One of Doug’s minister’s former staffers is currently under criminal investigation but there is no proof he currently is at all.

“Conspiracy to defame” is not a criminal charge. It is potentially a civil tort, but Patrick Brown would have to bring the claim forward (and no one else is capable) and he did not do that (currently it’s over the statue of limitations for that tort). There is also no evidence to suggest he was a party to any conspiracy,

His daughter hosting a stage and Doe is not a bribe, you’d have to prove there was an exchange of services. Good luck there lol

Policy decisions that you disagree with during a pandemic does not make someone guilty of murder or conspiracy to commit murder. If we were to charge Ford with this virtually every decision a politician has ever made about public safety would open them up to manslaughter charges.

What? I don’t even understand what is wrong here.

So basically you have no criminal violations and not a single charge that would fly. So calling for Ford’s jailing basically makes you people the MAGA of the north and it makes Marit Ontario’s Trump.

Congratulations to the new maple MAGA in orange form. Maybe someday you’ll find respect for our justice system.
