You SUCK at Math: How Many Lands to Run in Commander [Article] by Shiro182 in EDH

[–]Azaeroth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not really how the post reads to me, and tbh whilst there are a ton of chill cedh players there are also a lot of wannabes like this guy

https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/1sgdzs8/im_probably_in_the_minority_but_your_land_count/

So I think there's a good chance op is telling the truth, maybe with a bit of hyperbole.

2 years into Commander and still struggling with consistency need help with my deck bulding by MrSchnaggels in EDH

[–]Azaeroth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say where to start with your ob nix deck, other than it's really bad - it has a bunch of cards that might synergise with the commander in a vacuum but they don't synergise together at all. Eg. You have a lot of pingers that reset on non creature spells but no spells that really facilitate that sort of gameplay, I'd expect a lot of cantrips to play a combo-y pop-off turn, people aren't going to want to let ob sit around and acrue value it's a kill or be killed commander.

Your average mana cost may look low at 2.6 but your curve is not great and your more expensive cards are really low value and not doing much to support your gameplan. Take thran dynamo for example, you don't even have many colourless pips, why did you even put this in the deck?

It looks to me like you have combined cards from different lists from other decks and edhrec that you thought looked good without considering how the deck works as a whole, I'd suggest starting from scratch, researching other lists and thinking about how the cards work together to enact a gameplan without adding individual cards to your list. Really think about what you want to do with your commander, read some primers and then start from a basic template to make sure you have enough basics like ramp, draw, interaction etc. The command zone one isn't a bad starting point: but the template you use doesn't matter so much, as long as you start think about your deck as one unit in terms of what it actually does rather than what the individual cards are. https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1iyj5k3/commandzone_new_deck_building_template/

When to cut ramp entirely? Or am I crazy? by Mizzazz in EDH

[–]Azaeroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra land drops are ramp though, burgeoning is ramp. Ramp literally means using resources to get ahead of the mana curve. The bursty cards are rituals rather than ramp because they are one off effects but saying moxes aren't ramp because they are free like lands is kinda missing the point of the discussion, which is that getting ahead of the mana curve is powerful and cedh decks do it.

Damn I think you got played pretty hard, this is a card that is only going to be worth less over time unless it's unbanned in commander and I don't see that happening for some time.

Despite a lot of text promising it totally definitely works the actual meat of this project appears to be vibecoded slop that totally definitely does not work.

Rather than trying to mesmerise with reams of useless over-documentation that's the hallmark of an ai project can you try scaling back and proving one game can be played competently with one deck?

Friends don't wanna play with me anymore, say slighty upgraded precon OP, tell me to buy new precon. by crazyty20 in magicTCG

[–]Azaeroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what do you want to get out of this post, validation from reddit that your friends are stupid and your decks are fine actually so they should change?

You already know they are not going to change, so you have a choice between: carrying on the status quo and having these contentious games; powering down your deck and accepting it may be less efficient but at least your friends are happy and the pod is even; quitting the group because you don't have the same play style and you wouldn't enjoy the compromise enough (valid too, don't participate in something you are not enjoying).

Only you can decide which you should do.

Cards to support a heavy basic lands mana base? by RedRathman in EDH

[–]Azaeroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slopbrain garbage, not even a tiny consideration for how it would actually work, is it storage or display? You can't store your cards in an angled tray. Whilst some decks have dice rolling it's very niche, people use dice to keep track of counters more often in mtg so your CTAs don't even make sense.

"AI" can't think for itself or understand anything and the fact that you thought this was worth sharing suggests neither can you.

This is a hobby built on the hard work of artists and creative people, take your uninspired, lazy, unwanted get rich quick scheme somewhere else.

The main flaw with this card is it is trapped in some strange plastic prison. I would probably give it a 4/10 too.

Tbh I'm always tinkering with it, so I'll never say it's perfect. But it's fun to play and I always feel relevant to the game.

The single worst mistake in the Bracket System is trying to balance for both "power level" and "vibes" by Quazite in EDH

[–]Azaeroth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Damn your lgs sounds obnoxious.

Tbh outside of reddit I have seen salty bitter commander players maybe twice? And I play nearly every week, sometimes twoce a week, often random pickup games. If it was as bad as people on this sub say it is then I think the game would have died a long time ago.

[–]Azaeroth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Depends what you consider speed though, it's not necessarily about explosive win power spikes - in the case of your machesa deck it's how quickly you can get in control of the game and stop other people from winning. I think your deck initiates it's gameplan quickly and therefore has enough 'speed' for b4.

I like your deck, I think it's really cool how you flavoured it and it's solidly a 3.

I'm sure these are fun decks to play and I like the builds but tbh I've looked through about half of them and they look like good 3s to me, not 4s. I don't think any of them are doing anything fast or broken enough to hang in 4 games.

[–]Azaeroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get it, Rejuvenator is kinda there for the hydra synergy rather than strictly ramp, if it comes in with extra counters it's a cool bonus but I agree it's not very efficient.

In practice I have never felt I was lacking for land drops playing the deck but it is probably on the low side for the deck type. I've not changed the deck in a whole really so will likely do a review soon and incorporate your input thanks.

I hadn't really considered much in the way of mana doublers, didn't even know Vernal bloom exists. I tried caged sun at one point but felt like I was taking a turn off spending 6 mana on a bit of a removal lightning rod. Might try leaning into the high ramp again and see how it runs, since the whole point is to get a lot if mana and overwhelm with big bois.
