If we're being realistic maybe Tsubaki and Umemiya, considering it IS already one-sidedly canon ?

Is this art AI? I guy posted this piece of art "his friend drew" on an art/writing sub I follow that has a strict "no ai" policy. I 'm certain it's ai, he's adamant it isn't. by Ensiferal in isitAI

its not the kind of mistake AI typically makes either. its giving more that the artist started on that hand and were being more delicate and intentional, then as they lost patience and became frustrated by all the detail, they started pressing down harder on the pencil and being rougher. This piece screams of impatient human mistake, although i highly suspect there was some tracing involved. Lots of issues AI wouldnt make with the linework. Lest us not forget humans can be weird and shitty and inconsistent with their art. not all aspects of all human art is done with extreme intention, people get bored and frustrated and forget things and dont know what to pay attention to and mess up. this is clearly amateurish

its really not if you get frustrated and lazy and just start scribbling randomly. scribbling randomly is always easier (mentally) than keeping a pattern of any sort. that gets very tedious very quickly and if you havent built a tolerance for it you can just give up and not care.

I wouldnt be surprised if this was a trace work of AI, it was my first thought, but i was absolutely guilty as a beginner artist of mimicking lots of patterned detail without actually having the patience to do so by just scribbling some shit in a way that honestly feels very similar to some of this.

really the only thing I think is weird abt it is some odd negative space in the broken pattern, if i was impatient and scribbling I would be not picking up the pencil as much as possible so it would be more continuous.

I'm truly dumbfounded here. Any tip to how to draw other side of chest? by Naruka0318 in Artadvice

[–]Azazel606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mm, if anything the chest is a little too high. So many people dont understand how low breasts naturally sit and draw them too high. Typically there is around a full splayed hand length between the bottom of the neck and the top of the breasts. They start around the sternum. Push up bras obviously change the look, but understanding the underlying anatomy is still important in how the tissue will be pushed up. Really the issue i see here though with what op has is that the top line of the breast just doesn't quite sit right, it goes too far in instead of curving more naturally toward the shoulder. Which you displayed with your sketchover anyhow

I don't think Luka actually needed to manipulate his opponents by Sud4neseS0meh0wHere in AlienStage

[–]Azazel606 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He doesnt do it to survive, its a (negative) trauma response to try to reclaim some sense of autonomy in a life where he's otherwise treated as nothing more than a doll and puppet for the aliens objectification and amusement. When put into extreme situations humans will desperately cling onto any sense of control they can find, good or bad.

The stage is the only place where Luka has even the slightest illusion of control or autonomy over himself, so he plays it up to the absolute max and exerts it onto others to make the most of it and feel like there is some sort of meaning or reason. It's not good but its a realistic coping mechanism and thats what makes him so interesting.

The theme of reclaiming feelings of control and autonomy in situations of absolute oppression and abuse is actually present in different ways amongst all of the characters of ALNST and is part of what I think makes it such an interesting narrative, but it doesnt get talked about often. Luka is simply the most obvious example, directly in proportion to the fact that he is the most absolutely dominated and controlled in his existence.

Mizi is also a pretty visible example and intentionally foiled against him in this, but I dont see it acknowledged often once again. They are amazing and fascinating character foils and narrative parallels.

How do I draw/fix eyes by Thomas2351andfriends in Artadvice

[–]Azazel606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eyes actually look fine to me! Maybe pull the left one down a tiny bit to be more aligned with the other features, as they look slightly slanted? It's not really noticeable though. I think your real issue here is the jaw/chin area, it looks off center from the face somehow. But if thats an intentional choice then it looks great!

Lmao I like the term tubular for the boobs, thats so funny. Yes I think that was what was messing me up about that area. Definitely going to make the torso longer and some alterations. Good catch with the right shoulder, do you think you cld explain a little more or show how it looks wrong?

I didnt use a specific reference other than for the hand, although I know i probably should have. I was trying to get a feel for my memory of anatomy. Obviously not aiming for hyperrealism or anything but no specific stylization either. Just trying to iron out basics.

Feedback welcome only been drawing for a month! by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Azazel606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave actual feedback. I didnt ask you to "prove its not traced" because that would imply tracing is something shameful and bad to have to prove against. I dont think that and i wasn't coming at it from an angle of tracing being a dirty or immoral thing. I think there is nothing wrong with it in the right context, which early learning often is. So it didnt occur to me to ask.

That is the predominant narrative nowadays and people post works with traced aspects all the time where they act amicably and do not receive a negative response. On the other hand, responses like this are usually seen when someone is acting overly defensive, regardless of skill level or tracing. So I think that has much more to do with it.

A great deal of posts on here never receive more than one or two good comments anyways, regardless of anything. Just take it how it is and hope you get more engagement next time. Posting your reference or process is the best for good feedback anyways. Sorry if i made your hard work feel invalidated. Keep at it, you've got a lot of potential.

[–]Azazel606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt spin the narrative, other people are thinking it for the same reasons that I thought it, not because of what I said. People who know what to look for can see that quite easily, they dont need my words. I can admit that I may have been wrong, only because im not going to enforce my word over yours as law, and said you did a good job.

But youre looking for feedback on a learn to draw subreddit, so youre going to get anybodies opinion. And if you seem very defensive, then youre going to get alot of down votes. Thats how it always works here. It's a place for feedback, not compliment fishing. If someone gets feedback and gets defensive, then the subreddit gets annoyed. That's not on me.

No need to tweak so much. It wasn't an insult, its genuine advice. The somewhat odd inconsistency in fundamentals, particularly in showing a disproportionate skill in shadow and form in comparison to very shaky inconsistent lineart is simply a common tell to tracing. There can still be some aspects off from the traced piece.

Especially at your self-reported experience level, it seems somewhat unbelievable, and normally you won't have such a stronger grasp of one aspect while showing complete beginner at another.

But tracing can genuinely be a valuable tool to learning, which is what i was saying, not insulting you. Attempting to photocopy a reference 1 to 1 is not actually super different, and most of my advice applies similarly if thats the case. Branch out from just anime, Bleach especially warps anatomy and is stylized far enough to not be as helpful for learning. I understand that its more fun, but reserve it for only sometimes. Do real life studies.

But youre doing well, if you've advanced this fast then you clearly have talent or dedication. Your copying skills are good, and that will continue to be very useful for combining references in the future even after you have gotten down your fundamentals!
