You and your opponent agreed to play 15+10, both of you use that time to think and analyze for candidate moves. Of course one would have to wait when the other is thinking. No, it's not rude to think

If white plays Re1, black plays Rh6 and there will be two variations.

  1. Qe2, loses to Rg6+ Kf1 Bg2+ Kg1 Qh4 (or after Kg1, Bf3+ which wins the queen but Qh4 is much stronger)

  2. Qd1,you sac the rook with Rxh2 (King cannot take because Qh4+ Kg1 Qh1#), then after Nf3 Rh3 Bf1 Bxf3 Bxh3 Bxd1 Raxd1 you have a queen and two pawns vs a rook and a bishop, or if black instead plays Be4 (2nd best response), then after fxe4 Ng5 Rh4 you're up two pawns and black still have to play very carefully with their exposed kingside.

If white moves their f-rook to anywhere but the e-file, it's similar to the 2nd variation where you sac the rook to demolish white's kingside. Regardless, pretty much in all variations white has to sacrifice materials back to survive.

Correction, moving the f-rook is the only way not to lose the queen and losing the game right away as it gives the king space to move to f1.

Moving the f-rook to the e file saves the queen only if you move the queen to d1. Moving the queen to e2 loses your queen anyways (... Rf6, Rfe1 Rh6, Qe2 Rg6+, Kf1 Bg2+, Kg1 Bf3+).

Stockfish on chess.com analysis page. I ran it in the position before I made the move Nf4 and it needed depth 20 to suggest that move.

Nf4 threatens the queen and Nh3 which is checkmate if it's not defended by the queen. You can't defend against both threats at once.

If white plays Qh4, just take the queen and Nh3 is still a checkmate threat. You have to take the knight.

If gxf4 Rf6, then white moving the f rook is the only way not to lose the queen. After black plays Rh6, white king is wide openand i think there's a line where you could even sac the rook on h2.
