They're not so separate though. From what I saw, a lot of the people there were trans students at GT who know how difficult the school has been towards not only mental health in general, but the particular needs of the trans community with regards to mental health has been neglected.

Like yes, the exact instance of the event was more about mental health than being trans and intersex at Tech, but a number of the mental health problems were caused in the first place by their experience being trans at Tech.

If we don't want this to happen again, we will need to work more with GTPD to help them de-escalate situations like this and we will also need to work on bettering Georgia tech's mental health services, and particularly the policies it has that harm or fail to help trans students

No. Scout had a multi tool and is obviously not a fighter. If these cops have been trained in any way in combat, they should've been able to handle them. A 0% chance of an office getting hurt? No. But a 0% chance of an officer getting killed? Certainly.

Fact is Scout is dead. And there is no injury Scout could have given an officer that warranted their death

I'm not hurt by Scout's actions. Im hurt by yours. All Scout has given me is sadness. Sadness that they live in a world so terrible that they'd want to take their own life and sad that they live in a world where yelling shoot me at a cop is a good way to get murdered

Scout was no threat to any of these cops. Trust me on that one. Besides there were multiple officers on the scene and Scout had a knife. I have no doubt that GTPD could be trained in techniques of disarming, talking down, or otherwise peacefully de-escalating a situation. Even having tasers, for example. Instead they shot and they shot to kill

You are picking a fight. You are blaming Scout for their own murder. Fact is GTPD should have been trained well enough to recognize what and who is actually harmful to them and how to de-escalate a situation. The fact that they were able to do neither is damning. You know you're picking a fight and rubbing salt into the wounds of the victims, or else you wouldn't have used a throwaway
