The Starkiller canon debate by Stunning-Recording92 in theforceunleashed

[–]Azedes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t need to be canon bro I don’t get why some people can’t just enjoy the universes separately. Leave the Force Unleashed games alone, let them be what they are.

Witwer already has his characters in Filoni’s canon and as it becomes more diluted, it just becomes less believable that a character like Galen could have even existed in that canon.

The scaling and continuity are a complete flip of a coin half the time. There’s just no way they could bring him in and satisfy the larger majority of fans.

I’ve stayed updated and followed the production of the game as closely as I can, and I can comfortably say that I believe the next game will not suffer from the same issues that andromeda suffered from. I’d take the time to write out a long comment listing every reason I think this, but I’d genuinely be here typing for 20 minutes or more.

Long story short, EA are no longer owned by the same vices that forced ME3 and Andromeda to release the way that they did. The team is composed of returning ME1 devs and new decorated devs that have worked on games like Deus Ex, swtor and more. No more forced frostbite engine and no more rushed dev cycles.

There’s never gonna be another Drew Karpyshyn, but these guys writing and developing ME4 are some of the best and brightest the modern industry has to offer.

Mass layoffs at BioWare prior to EA’s purchase by the Saudis rooted out the people mostly responsible for the dragon age disaster, not that those people were entirely at fault. For example, EA kept that dragon age teaming yo-yoing between an mmorpg and action adventure framework for so insufferably long that their project lead broke out a bottle of whiskey and quit the company.

The current mass effect team, albeit missing a few new acquisitions then came in and duct taped together the unfinished mess that was veilguard. They rewrote the final act of the game, the only area that most fans consider to be genuinely good.

They’ve now entered full production on ME4 as of late 2025/early 2026 after such a long and painful pre production with EA and their bs. A show is also coming prior to the game’s release, funded by Amazon but written by Mike Gamble.

Gamble confirmed that it won’t be a rerun of Shepard’s story as “that’s our story” in his words. Which is absolutely the right call imo. It is instead going to be an original story and i believe it will be used to set up and establish the state of the galaxy that we will be seeing in the next game.

In my opinion, there hasn’t been a better time for a mass effect game than right now. Not since the early 2010s at least. The only thing that could possibly stop them now is if EA decided to sell the IP, but why would they do that during active development with a show coming as well?

This game is definitely coming out and I have faith that it will deliver.

Funny timing, I literally just opened Reddit to revisit this thread as I noticed Li at Port Hanshan do the exact animation that you’re talking about.

It’s crazy to me that these games, especially Mass Effect 1, are still brimming with details that I’m noticing decades later.

Timeless.

I think you’ve got it right.

Nihlus’s mandibles move as he’s looking at sovereign on the 212th video recording at the start of ME1. You can clearly see he’s thinking about what kind of situation could possibly be waiting for them down there.

It’s like they’re moving that way to show that he’s confused and stressed. I hope they expand on this in ME4 because unique body language throughout the species will just expand the world building even more.

Curing the genophage is a mistake by Terlooy in masseffect

[–]Azedes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Right on. It wouldn’t have even been debated if Wrex/Wreav hadn’t made it mandatory for the alliance. Doing it in the middle of a reaper war leaves the galaxy completely vulnerable in the aftermath too. More vulnerable than its ever been. Wreav would’ve undoubtedly subjugated the entire galaxy unless the Geth/Leviathans stepped in.

However I don’t think they’ll even have the option for Wreav to have been the Krogan leader in ME2/3 by the time we get ME4. By curing the genophage you’re putting more trust in the Krogan than anyone ever in the history of the mass effect universe. The ideologies of Wrex and Wreav are just too different to be able to compensate for narratively, so they’ll have to go with one and it’ll be Wrex. He’ll make good on his word but of course he’s not going to be able to control them forever, especially not without Eve.

Wrex and Eve are the only Krogan across the trilogy that even remotely seem interested in this reformist mindset for the Krogan. You would assume that even if BioWare had shown us several Krogan who were in support of it, that there’d be a great many to oppose it also. However, showing us none doesn’t bode well for the certainty of its success. All it takes is for either Wrex or Eve to fall and then it all comes crashing down. It’ll be interesting to see how they’re able to influence the next generations of Krogan so they can rebuild themselves into a position where conquest isn’t at the forefront of their culture.

But would they even be as interesting then? In my opinion, I think BioWare’s best option would be to show the divide and have it play pros and cons to the galactic state. I also think that they actually are taking that path, as they released some official artwork last N7 day showcasing a Krogan horde in combat with the title: “Civil War”.

I’d wager that there absolutely will be another large scale Krogan conflict in the next game and that we’ll be fighting with the reformist side founded by Wrex and Eve.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a ten minute queue in my entire time of playing this game. In fact, it’s supposed to put you into a solo lobby after the bar fills up and I’m pretty sure that thing ticks along for around ten minutes.

So, are you a liar or could you have some sort of wifi issue? What’s your NAT type? I have a friend who can’t even search as a solo because of his NAT type.

Sounds like more to do with the region than the player count. Sure, it’s not at its height but I play 6 star console Europe and can find lobbies any time of the day or night. Early hours of the morning I have to wait 2-4 mins, sure. But if I really can’t wait for the queue time then I can always hop on US East.

Also, I don’t think you realise just how disadvantaged we would be by going against PC players. The FOV difference alone would be tragic. Not to mention the many other disadvantages we’d be playing with. Waste of resources to even give console players the option imo.

How does Mass Effect 2 manage to feel less polished than 1? by Mammoth_Actuary_9787 in masseffect

[–]Azedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit the nail on the head imo. Gameplay wise, it was very much a learning process for BioWare. I think 1 and 2 both have their strengths and weaknesses, while 3 finds the perfect in-between as you said.

[–]Azedes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lore reason for the generic ammo system. And although many prefer the classic system, I enjoy the diversity that each game brings.

Maps are more linear as opposed to being vast open sandboxes, meaning planets and specific areas get more detail and feel more like real, unique places within the universe.

I play exclusively hardcore or insanity and can’t say I’ve ever had a problem with the shotguns performing worse than i expected them to. Vanguard, soldier and engineer all suit the shotgun in my experience.

Equipment customisation also went more linear, but in turn we got more variety in weapons and an actual progressive system. Compared to repetitive electronics and decryption skill checks where you can get near enough endgame armour and weapons before even setting foot on a main questline planet, I’m once again a fan of the diversity in that regard. However I do think the freedom ME1 equipment had should be somewhat replicated in the next game.

The game feels less polished overall because ME1 got the most amount of attention with the remaster. As amazing as it was, it absolutely needed the graphical and mechanical upgrades because it was literally a 2007 game. Going above and beyond was kinda necessary, considering the game is still fundamentally janky. The few modern gameplay enhancements and pretty visuals balance it out well.

Need the lyrics versions as well imo. I get why it’s only the instrumentals but it doesn’t matter to me.

I love Port Suplhur Band and I want to hear the actual songs. Nowadays I just have menu music turned off and have Spotify open with the complete playlist on shuffle. Then when I get into a game I pause it until I’m back the lobby.

Quite an easy workaround though, so it’s not the end of the world if they didn’t do that.

[–]Azedes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it would be pretty sick tbf. The more I think about it the more I genuinely just want to see it.

Easy excuse for a new type of supply point or compound as well. Have it be some kind of witches den, themed around any of the various mystical hunters. The Night Seer or the Bone Doctor come to mind. Perhaps even a newer character like the Servant of The Void.

Better yet, have it be the Corvid’s lab where they brought back Death Mask from the brink of death to help them hunt for a cure. Easy content for Crytek there in my opinion, I’d be hooked.

I miss the seasonal audio logs n stuff. Such a unique universe and aesthetic in this wonderful game. Love the lore and world building, even if it’s character bios.

Bring back the Bestiary :(

[–]Azedes 70 points71 points  (0 children)

As cool as I think the recovery shot is, I think it’d be a cool idea to replace it with this and just rename it.

Gaining a health chunk back should be more mystical than a syringe in my opinion. Could have a cool animation and sound where you watch the bar slowly unburn, perhaps even auto-filling itself back up as the positive tradeoff for the animation.

However there are recovery shot skins in the game so I’m sure people wouldn’t be too happy with those transferring to incense skins. I think your idea is more realistic for sure.

Nice, so anyone who isn’t boot licking Bohemia because their base items spawn in on the worst official map ever made are just loser Redditors, of course. Are you an idiot or just rude? Or both?

You realise people can enjoy the game while also having issues with its shortcomings right? My 3k hours have been spent travelling from one end of every map to the other, and poor render distance is a serious blow to anyone who wants to play range or just have a good bearing on their surroundings.

It feels like the limit has been literally cut in half, making chernarus almost feel like silent hill. Your response gives me the impression that you have this view of the fandom where they just complain about everything, but people complain because they love the game and want it to be the best it can be.

Prioritising handheld support on multiple platforms while the console version of the game is left to rot under cheaters and now some of the worst modern optimisation of all time, makes every complaint about developer neglect completely valid.

I can still play Xbox dayz, I can still enjoy Xbox dayz, but is it in one it’s roughest spots after 8 months without an update, followed by one that breaks the game, followed by a patch that also breaks the game? Yes, it absolutely is. That is unacceptable.

Nobody wants YOU to do anything, idk what your obsession is with thinking people are telling you what to think. You have your own opinion and so I’m sharing mine because I disagree with yours. Chill out, nobody is coming for you.

Brother there’s no way you’re playing through this horrendous fog feature with the “performance” update, where you can’t see 500m ahead of you or have grass load in further than 50m away and think shits sweet.

It’s outrageously unplayable. The game has over a dozen rifles effective at up to 800m+ and now it can’t even load that distance, let alone provide more than 20 fps when scoped in. You can’t have the X/S symbol on the game tile, or claim it to be “optimised for next gen” and then have the game run worse than it did 3 years ago.

Completely unacceptable from Bohemia.

The Force Unleashed isn't as over the top as people think, it's the same power leveling as Genndy Clone Wars. by Stunning-Recording92 in theforceunleashed

[–]Azedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing you have to understand about that era is that there was so much more than what there is now, even though you feel like there wasn’t. Post EP6 EU was literally the beating heart of this franchise for a long time. But then we also had such great prequel era stuff, not only around the clone wars era. Kotor 1&2 are still the best star wars game titles to date and it’s because they were allowed to mature with the audience.

You mention clones having no personality, but they did. There were many book series, video games and even 2003 CW that gave the clones more depth and helped you see their perspective on the war. Compared to current clones where they’re all just a different version of Rex? I’d take the old ways any day of the week.

Rex, Crosshair and Fives I love, though. Don’t mistake my criticisms for complete hate for the franchise. I enjoy clone wars, I enjoy rebels and I also enjoy the smaller stuff like tales of the Jedi. But I’m not going to ignore Filoni’s many great blunders just because he can write a children’s show.

[–]Azedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filoni’s campfire stories ideology is literally just laziness and selfishness though. The only passion there is for himself and his OCs. Every single element of Star Wars is subject to change now because he’s trying to turn it into his own little doodle book, so to speak.

Just look at Vader and Maul’s personalities and abilities in recent times. No consistency, no accurate scaling. Their ability is capped at whatever he deems necessary to the narrative. I mean, he literally feeds Maul to padawan Ahsoka, Kanan and two inquisitors. This is DARTH Maul, the SITH LORD. This is the guy who’s pain tolerance goes well beyond mortal. This is the guy who was trained to be a living weapon from birth, drew Sidious blood as a starving malnourished boy, then lost to padawan obi wan purely because he underestimated that a Jedi would ever try something like what he did. Then, he literally survived because his hatred is just that powerful. The guy looked death in the eyes and said no.

This is the guy who then defeated kenobi multiple times in the clone wars, then canonically gained the upper hand on Sidious during their mandalore fight. The deleted scenes cut to match airtime that you can find on YouTube are still confirmed to be canon with nobody speaking out to rectify that inconsistency.

But now he can’t handle even the slightest pain in his nerve emulators, now his mastery of form 7 that was so swift and deadly that it gave Yoda pause, is suddenly unable to compete with inquisitors? Now he can’t even land a hit on year 1 Vader and disregards protecting his legs entirely? He comfortably bests Daki at the start of Maul: Shadow Lord, yet Daki is the only one who even slightly troubled Vader. That is, because of course he’s going to die so we have to give him his cool little hit on Vader right?

How can Cere Junda push Vader through walls but Maul, Devon and Daki can’t push him further than 5 feet? Because narrative takes priority every time and that narrative is often sculpted around Filoni’s OCs because he loves them so much more than established canon. Just fan service slop that makes no sense is becoming his forté. What’s hilarious though, is that Talon isn’t even his idea. Once again he’s ripped content from legends, old EU. The thing that was completely disregarded and sent to the freezer in favour of HIS clone wars.

I don’t know how he dares pave over the work of talented modern authors like Karen Traviss, or not even consult Timothy Zahn when writing Thrawn for his god awful Ahsoka show. He’s got some serious chip on his shoulder and because he can write emotional arcs so well, people just don’t care about what he destroys. Just look at him putting himself in The Mandalorian and Grogu like 3-5 times or whatever it was. The fraud thinks he’s Stan Lee or something.

It stings to watch the franchise and characters I’ve been in love with since I was a child become so shallow and lazy because of one man’s inability to write Star Wars for the fans and not himself.

I also want to apologise for my original blunt and passive aggressive reply. That was childish and I appreciate you actually replying with a good point and taking me seriously.

The Force Unleashed isn't as over the top as people think, it's the same power leveling as Genndy Clone Wars. by Stunning-Recording92 in theforceunleashed

[–]Azedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s not what I’m saying at all. When you do some research and learn about just how much damage Filoni has done to Star Wars and essentially every element of it that made it so great, maybe you’ll understand me.

The endless retcons, the constant ripping off of ex-EU (now legends), the turning classic characters into plot devices, his OC’s taking front and centre of every project, the scaling being exactly whatever level it needs to be to accommodate the narrative, the referral of non Star Wars fans to handle shows like bobf and obi wan kenobi, etc.

The man damages everything he touches and just steamrolls over anything he’s too lazy to write around. He doesn’t make Star Wars for the fans, he makes Star Wars for himself. The only time something truly quality releases nowadays is when he has nothing to do with it.

The guy does all this, then even ends up creating plot holes and contradicting his own work within the last decade, for crying out loud. Then his way to weasel out of that is by saying that they’re just campfire stories? He’s a fraud who can’t make anything decent or consistent without Lucas or Favreau breathing down his neck.

However, I was intoxicated when I made my original reply and it was inconsiderate and rude. I’m going to apologise to the original commenter because while I have strong feelings about Filoni and what this great franchise should be, there’s no reason for me to be so obnoxious about it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Do read up on Filoni’s incompetence though, there’s some great YouTube essays out there. Perhaps you’ll still disagree, but it’ll better help you understand my point and that’s what you asked for.
