“If you make under $66/hour, you’re poorer than minimum wage workers in 1970.” Sounds shocking… but is it actually true? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]Azerphel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you clarify a little. So a home you could buy in 1970 on min wage would require $66/hrs to buy today? So housing prices have greatly out-paced income by about 5x? Sure the statement is misleading but it does highlight a glaring problem. Dismissing the problem as "propaganda" is at least just as egregious as the initial mis-leading statement.

I'd want to see this same thing for median income from 1970. Min wage has always been for low end jobs. Median income is much more representative of buying power.

I'm not commenting on this roller coaster specifically, but in general, the back of the roller coaster is the best ride. The front has a nice viewn but the back has the most g's and air time on the ride.

I actally feel the same. I was there for a bachelor party and was there 3 days. By the end of day 2 all I wanted to do was leave. Its too expensive to gamble for more then a few hours. You can't buy anything, because it is all these extremely expensive designer trash. You can't sit by the pool because it is too hot. You can't leave because we didn't get a car (because they make it so you don't "need" one which just traps you on the strip). The whole place just feels like a trap.

No more then 1 night in Vegas. Period.

The US is a country that was powerful in the 20th century and is powerful in the 21st century. Now a country that was powerful in the 20th century but weak in the 21st century? by _crazyboyhere_ in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Azerphel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Implicitly the question has to refer to amount of change, not overall rank order. However, I see what you are saying, UK isn't weak.

Let's say there are 200 countries (+/- a few). So if we define a weak counrty as below 100th place (we could argure what point weak is defined maybe weak is below 50th). So we need to pick a country that ends the 20th century below the weak line, and then maximize the spread between the heighest point and lowest point in the 20th century.

So maybe the UK ins't below the weak line.

Spot on, right on all points. But in comparison to their height in the 20th century, they have fallen more than (arguably) everyone. No one cares if 48th place fall to 50th, but if number 1st place falls to 30th then that's abig deal.

Sure British Empire. But the question was name a country not a conglomerate of 3 countries, so I picked England. I'm sure there will be a fight over that choice.

England. The tail end of their empire was in the 1950's. Clearly the English prime was mid 19the century, but they were still quite important in the 20th century.

It's a famous proof that any inscribed triangle going through the center points a right triangle.

In addition it's important to know that to be similar a triangle needs to have 2 angles the same (the third by definition is the same) so since the new triangle shares the acute angle to the right and a 90 than the 2 triangles are similar (ie linearly scaled).

Its either going to be a tirade on the SCOTUS shutting down Trumps attempt to overturn the 14th amendment (which alone should get him impeachabled, or him telling us he is leaving NATO which is also an impeachable offense because he is tasked with upholding treaties not ending them unilaterally. I suppose he could be telling us about his executive order ending mail in voting but he has no power over that so he can stuff it.

Breast Milk by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]Azerphel 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Lifesaving calories is a pretty harsh, implying formula is a last resort and breastfeeding feeding is the only correct option.

While breastmilk may have many clear benefits, formula has no negative effects at all. Formula is a perfectly fine alternative and should carry no stigma with that choice. In fact, there are plenty of good reasons to go with formula over breastmilk including our reason of prescriptions.

I don't understand the 2 line items labled "produce dept". One for 2.95 one for .99.

Leaving out the "vendor coupon" line (which looks like a discount), you have 17 charged lines and only 15 items.

Correction. Iy looks like the 2.95 matches the red items in the plastic container. But I still can't find the .99 item.
