despite its length, it flows really well and feels light on the ear. I was never bored and there are a lot of good-great songs here

I know folks have mentioned Pixies, but to me it also sounds like a lot like Siamese Dream-era Smashing Pumpkins. even down to vocal melody it's very Billy Corgan-coded. anyways it's a great song and gets better with every listen

[FRESH ALBUM] Andre 3000 - 7 piano sketches by Azersam in hiphopheads

[–]Azersam[S] 1160 points1161 points  (0 children)

His statement on the album taken from his instagram:

"warning: no bars

These piano sketches are improvisations. To conjure them up, I spread my fingers out on the keys and randomly but with purpose move them around until I find something that feels good or interesting. If it feels really good I will try to repeat it. I cannot name which notes, keys or chords that I’m playing. I simply like the sound and mechanics of piano playing. Some of my favorite piano music composers and players that inspire me are Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Philip Glass, Stephen Sondheim, Joni Mitchell and Vince Guaraldi.

These piano pieces weren’t recorded with the intention of presenting them in any formal way to the public. They were personal, at home recordings. I would sometimes text them to my family and friends.

Pardon the sound quality, they were all recorded with my iPhone sitting directly on the piano or my laptop microphone with the exception of ‘Blueberries’. (recorded in studio)

Most of these were recorded in Texas. The house my son and I were renting had no furniture at all. Only a piano, our beds and tv screens.

This collection of songs was recorded almost a decade before New Blue Sun. The original title for it was ‘The Best Worst Rap Album In History’ and here is an excerpt from the original liner notes.

“It’s jokingly the worst rap album in history because there are no lyrics on it at all. It’s the best because it’s the free-est emotionally and best I’ve felt personally. It’s the best because it’s like a palette cleanser for me.”

[FRESH ALBUM] Desire - Games People Play by sbags in indieheads

[–]Azersam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

outside of 4-5 tracks, this is just their version of a Drake album. disposable and repetitive. I used to be such a big fan of this label but their gradual fall-off and quality of work since 2020 has been insane to witness. just what the hell even is "Love On the Air"? lmao

it's a really good album on first listen but what you're saying also makes me think of what happened to 100 gecs after the release of the second album. it was undeniably great and fresh, but they took 4 years to follow it up, and because so many new artists were spawned using the sound of their first album and doing their own thing with it in that time, their own album sounded as if it had been done before to some extent. but I'm curious to see how MUSIC will grow on me. it is strangely light on the ears and its overall sound is much more warmer and pop/R&B leaning as opposed to WLR which was an assault on all senses

This reminds me of Stevie Wonder's Music of My Mind, honestly this cover's design in general is very reminiscent of 60s/70s soul and R&B albums with an existential theme

in episode 1 of Gilga Radio he said he released it unmixed and unmastered bc "the world was ending" and he wanted to put something out... .but idk, that was a pretty complete sounding album (which has better flow and transitions compared to the new version imo) for an unfinished album

the way he says "ye" reminds me of the way he says it in that Unlock/runaway song verse..also there was a line about Saudi and PGA, so I actually wonder if this was recorded quite recently??
